Daphne thank you for staying authentic and promoting positive living style! I love watching your videos and always felt inspired. Love you! __From Shenzhen China
Hi Daphne, First & Foremost i enjoyed this Q&A so so much. So true, that nobody has the right to pressure another person to do something or force someone to commit into something unless that person whom you know is committing a mistake or betraying someone else's trust, then by all means we have the right to correct that particular person. Getting into a relationship or getting married & then having kids or being childless or even remaining single is one's choice. We can't just judge a person or measure a person's success based on all that & in one of your Q&A what you told about all this is absolutely true. See Daphne, honestly speaking I'm also following other people's vlogs & one of the vlogger whom I'm following is living in London BUT yours is my fav. It's not that i am saying all this because i am commenting here right now but i meant it from the bottom of my heart. Your vlogs are so balanced from every aspect of life. It doesn't matter if the numbers of your subscribers or likes aren't as much as the other vloggers but the quality of vlogs that you are providing is so amazing. I'm damn sure not only myself but the rest of your subscribers inclusive of your family & your BF agrees with me. I told this to you before & I'm saying this again "We your subscribers & your Instagram followers are with you always."
Hi Daph,
Just FYI, as a self-employed person you can open a solo 401k. You don't get the company matching contribution, but you still enjoy the tax exemption on the amount you contribute to your account, which is huge in NYC!
You also can take out loans from your solo 401k up to $50k without a penalty in case you're in a pinch and need the money (unlike standard investment accounts where you can run into capital gains taxes).
Anyway, you're doing great and I wish you the best! Just wanted to leave this comment because I'd hate for you to be paying more in taxes than you need to.
I agree with what you said about content creators. I unsubscribed and stopped watching videos of so many people simply because there seemed to be no value. Just constant advertisements to buy more or gossip.
Over the past three years I narrowed down to 5 channels (you being one of them ❤️) and it feels great to only consume content from people that can either motivate you, inspire you or teach you something.
you are looking really good here Daphne, love from Taiwan.
The reason I follow your channel and keep coming back every week is that you are not like most other 'superficial' or 'materialistic' influencers who show off their stuff and fancy lifestyle. The way you exist on this platform is definitely irreplaceable. Keep doing what you are doing and you will inspire and attract more people like me.
Hello Daphne 😊 I rarely leave any comments but just decided to do it today, because I see the things exactly the way that you do and wanted to offer you some encouragement and support, if you are reading this.
I'm a medical doctor doing her specialty training in Psychiatry. I come from Turkey and live in Germany. As you can imagine I am so busy and have so little time and energy to invest in keeping in shape and looking representable.
Nowadays it's very easy to feel like you have to own a big variety of things in order to stay interesting or relevant. Top that up with the decision fatigue that comes with picking what really suits you and how to combine things together. I also don't want to throw all my money down the drain for the newest serum or shoes that won't add real value to my life. Use it for something else or save it.
You have been pretty minimalistic and honest about how much one really needs from the start and I took so many notes and lessons from you over the years. I honestly wouldn't have known it before, as I didn't have time or resources to experiment with a lot of things. So I was able to make a lot of good decisions with your help. This is influential enough if you ask me ;)
Other influencers you are talking about that keep putting new things on the table often leave me with the impression that while the video might be "colourful and entertaining" to watch, it leaves you wondering whether they really use all these things they advertise. Sometimes it almost feels staged or downright mindless and wasteful. A lot of people don't need that, can't afford that, the pretty girl in the video obviously doesn't need that. There are wars and climate problems going on around the world and one asks themselves, is this abundance really called for?
I think you are definitely doing something right, by staying authentic and honest, so absolutely no need for self doubt here. I wish you best of luck for 2023!
Bravo, well said! I wish more of youtubers have the mindset like yours. And now I understood why I ended up so focusing on watching your Q & A videos every time. Your perspective makes me think about things at each time. True to yourself = Self-love <3
Dear Daphne,
Hi!
Thank you very much for your new video! I was originally attracted to your blog by your sit down/talking videos (maybe not Q&A's, but those when you choose a topic and develop it extensively) and this is what has been making me return each and every time. I do miss them very much and there has not been many lately, but I do understand that your life changes, your preferences and priorities change so the most important thing for me is so that you create content you are interested in.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts about the "trends", I feel so validated now! I have been discovering recently through YouTube suggestions girls bloggers from my location (UK) who are BIG, but I kept on feeling bad about myself - I was honestly questioning myself if I was THAT inadequate if I was finding those hundreds of thousands times' watched videos, as you mentioned the word, utterly boring and repetitive.
Maybe it could help you, but not a long time ago I was watching a quite serious (and interesting) documentary on social media and some specialist who was talking there specifically about the Instagram algorithm pointed out that, basically, these apps and algorithms are build mostly by rather antisocial guys in their 20s-30s and the aestethics they are valuing is the best described as soft porn. I have never been that kind of person and have always been feeling out of touch/not cool in terms of social media, but having watched the documentary and especially having heard the above really helped me to, if not stop, but to be less hard on myself.
Is the everlane sweater itchy?
I watch you because you DON’T do a million try ons and sell products. I hate channels that do that. I like exactly what you do. I love seeing what it’s like to live in NYC. I love that you don’t swear and talk bad about people. I like that your optimistic. Stay exactly how you are.
Love you Daphne! Stay true always! I admire you for your bravery and honesty
Loved this! what you said to the last question is spot on (along with all the other qu’s) - that’s why you’re my fave, never change x
I agree with everything you said in the end about which direction you prefer to take with your channel. Also, you being so chill is one of the reasons I like you.
Woww spoiling us with consecutive vids in a week 😊👌
Would love and appreciate if you can share more about your time in Tokyo!
Thank you for being so authentic! I’m always surprised by how your words inspire me, no matter how different work we are doing (I’m a software engineer living in China and I just wanna see more NYC on YouTube initially, then I fall love with your content every time) Thank you ❤
That's why I still watch your videos religiously, you are authentic and show us your real lifestyle that is similiar to ours. These famous tiktokers and youtubers are so boring in my opinion, I know it can caught so much more attention and views because people have this desire to have this kind of life, but the more real you are, the real your followers will be.
I love how much you talk about sustainability ❤! Just be you Daphne. The other girls with tons of followers are more like the popular but nutrient-deficient fast food. Your content is what I come back to all the time. Thanks for the thoughts on how to deal with setbacks and lost job opportunities. Really needed that.
