But they're not Japanese citizens, or even ethnically Japanese - they're North Korean. There's about 150,000 of them living in Japan today, and they've been there for over a century. This community has close ties with the regime in Pyongyang, which supports them financially (and vice-versa). But more importantly, Pyongyang offers them an identity, a heritage, and cultural legitimacy - things that some elements of Japanese society work to deny them. Vox Borders Episodes: 1. Sending funding to the Koreans in Japan was pretty smart, a way to expand influence and gain support. At the time North Korea was actually better than South Korea and had the ability to send support.
Atrocities??? 1Million iraqis dead, civilians killed with uranium tipped bullets, abu ghraib prison i can go on an on……….. BTW THE U.N ignored the Rwandan genocide and committed war crimes with its “peace keepers” plus its basically controlled by the U.S lol. western hypocrisy
If they knew and experienced what North Korea is actually like, I wonder if they’d love it so much. They’ve basically been bought.
But why doesn’t North Korea send money for the Koreans in Japan to return to North Korea? Don’t they want to leave a hostile environment? Don’t they want to be with their “great leader”? Or do they know deep down that living in North Korea is a bad idea? Maybe North Korea thinks theres some kind of tactical advantage to having Koreans in Japan?
Why doesn't the SK government take interest in funding them??
The stories that we tell ourselves as a species to justify violence to others is truly scary.
If you love NK so much, why dont you live there instead? 🤷🏼♂️
I think the answer is easy, send them all back to NK then they will understand how blessed they were living in Japan.
Thier teacher should be the responsible for these teachings.
Send them back to north korea
Should deport every last one of these Chongryon Koreans to Pyongyang. It’s NOT racist to want to rid a democratic nation like Japan of a group of people who love to enable a dictatorship like North Korea who vehemently calls for Japan to be destroyed. They should NOT get to enjoy the freedom and quality of life that Japan gives them
This is not an issue with Japan and Korea. It's an issue with North Korea.
It would be helpful for context and to see how Japan really treats people to compare to Southern-identifying Japanese-Korean experiences. Chongryon are a small subset even among the Zainichi community.
Sad. I met such Japanese born Koreans in Osaka and Hakata (Fukoaka).
They didn't know Korean at all. They were Japanese except they weren't.
qBfyIQbxXPs&t=8m57s 8:57 Noo Johnny Harris, never go native! That's the first rule of ethnology studies! You can't stay objective if you get "embedded into a culture"!
So if the japanese government start building the japanese-koreans some libraries, schools and houses more than the north korean government, maybe the japanese-koreans will like the japanese government more.
Are there anti-Japanese groups in Korea? It's not a good idea to ignore Korean hate towards Japan I'm so angry because Koreans hate Japan so much and they are racist too and Nobody talks about it Why The reason is not yet known.
It's simple to solve, send all of them back to North Korean so they can praise the great leader personally.
