World War II Documentary - The Second World War is the deadliest conflict in human history. From Pearl Harbour and The Rise of The Third Reich to The Battle of Britain and Operation Barbarossa, The Second World War spans vast lands and cultures. |Try two months of Skillshare for free: 🤍 | This video specialises on the European front and delves into the international politics and battles of the time. Part 2 will focus on Pearl Harbour, Japan, China, North Africa and much more. Try two months of Skillshare for free: 🤍 In the Second World War, every bond between man and man was to perish. Crimes were committed by the Germans under the Hitlerite domination to which they allowed themselves to be subjected which find no equal in scale and wickedness with any that have darkened the human record. The wholesale massacre by systematised processes of six or seven millions of men, women, and children in the German execution camps exceeds in horror the rough-and-ready butcheries of Genghis Khan, and in scale reduces them to pigmy proportions. Deliberate extermination of whole populations was contemplated and pursued by both Germany and Russia in the Eastern war. The hideous process of bombarding open cities from the air, once started by the Germans, was repaid twenty-fold by the ever-mounting power of the Allies and found its culmination in the use of the atomic bombs which obliterated Hiroshima and Nagasaki. World War II Documentary - After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, what had started as a mainly European war, had now turned into a global conflict, with America’s focus now shifting towards the Pacific War as well as The North African and Italian Campaigns. Get a Huge Discount on NordVPN’s Ultimate Security Package Here ➼ 🤍 It's risk-free with Nord's 30-day money-back guarantee! Japan's attack had backfired and far from wiping out American influence in the Pacific, they had just awoken a sleeping giant, with the subsequent Battles of the Corral sea and Midway shifting the balance of the war. The Allies would also see success in North Africa, with Erwin Rommel 'The Desert Fox' being forced off the continent, securing Egypt and in particular the Suez Canal for the British. From Africa, the Allies would be able to disrupt Axis operations in the Medditarain with the Invasions of Sicily and Italy all on the horizon. The War was finally turning in the Allies favour and it would not be long until the Axis were retreating, being pushed all the way back to their homelands. Hi everyone, I'm sorry for the very long wait in uploads, however, hopefully you will understand why, as it has taken me almost a year to research and produce this video. On September 1st, 1939, Germany declares war on Poland and throws the world into the largest conflict humanity has ever seen. I have done my best to do accurate borders, encirclements and army sizes. If you see any mistakes or inaccuraices, or if you simply just have suggestions, then let me kno in the comments and I will include them in my next video! Besides, sit back and relax, I hope that you enjoy the video!
In times of war, all the citizens of the countries involved are affected, not only the high leaders, political leaders and soldiers of the army receive the effects of a warlike confrontation. On many occasions the economy for the middle and low social strata becomes even more complicated, especially if the person who provides for the home is forced to take up arms. The Second World War in particular demanded the support of the country's women to fill positions that at that time were destined only for men. Given the lack of manpower, mothers, wives and daughters who met the necessary characteristics for the job played roles ranging from simple to complicated and dangerous, even fighting as full-fledged soldiers. Today we will talk about the positions that these brave women held during World War II and the value of their work in the different countries involved, Welcome to Copernicus’s Galaxy. Women: An essential role during WW2 Gender discrimination in all aspects has been present until today. Although women have managed to prove their ability and worth with the passage of time, they still have a long way to go. At a time when the separation of gender roles was quite clear, women were not allowed to perform outside their socially accepted work under any circumstances. At first, the government, businesses and society itself did not want to accept that women take positions that should be held by a man. They considered women to have no skills or strength. However, time was pressing. Both the country's own army and that of the allies needed weapons, food and services, which were in short supply due to the lack of manpower, so all those who were opposed to employing women to meet these needs had no choice but to swallow their old-fashioned pride. The life of the "ladies of the street" in WW2 Having to fight in hostile terrain, under constant life-threatening danger is bound to generate exorbitant levels of stress. If they do not find an escape valve, this stress could accumulate and wreak havoc on the soldiers' minds, obstructing their performance on the front line. Ugly Carnival and the Shaving of French Heads It is almost certain that no one watching this today knows the feelings caused by being occupied by a foreign military force, the horrors and humiliation possibly experienced by the citizens of different countries during the years it lasted. Yet, there is no excuse for the cruel treatment given to the women of German and French towns and villages, among others, for their supposedly dishonorable actions, without taking into account the circumstances. We all know the SS have a dark history for many reasons throughout world war 2, But they were still extremely fierce and well-experienced fighters winning Germany many battles, In this video, it is mainly footage of the ''Hitlerjugend'' ''Das Reich'' ''Polizei'' ''Totenkopf'' (3rd SS Panzer Division Totenkopf) So I took the time to make a video of the best possible clips I could source of the ''SS'' Fighting throughout the war, I left out many of the twisted divisions such as ''SS Einsatzgruppe'' we all know of the SS as being murder squads but many were just young fighters, that were very brainwashed by Hitler's regime and happily died for Germany, Such as the Hitlerjudend. All footage is for historical purposes only! SS, abbreviation of Schutzstaffel (German: “Protective Echelon”), the black-uniformed elite corps and self-described “political soldiers” of the Nazi Party. Founded by Adolf Hitler in April 1925 as a small personal bodyguard, the SS grew with the success of the Nazi movement and, gathering immense police and military powers, became virtually a state within a state. From 1929 until its dissolution in 1945, the SS was headed by Heinrich Himmler, who built up the SS from fewer than 300 members to more than 50,000 by the time the Nazis came to power in 1933. Himmler, a racist fanatic, screened applicants for their supposed physical perfection and racial purity but recruited members from all ranks of German society. With their sleek black uniforms and special insignia (lightninglike runic S’s, death’s head badges, and silver daggers), the men of the SS felt superior to the brawling brown-shirted Storm Troopers of the SA, to which initially they were nominally subordinate. Thank you to critical past for the 4k colourized footage of the ''SS panzergrenadier'' division.

Which countries have the largest military? In this video we compare the size of every country’s military personnel in each year for the period 1820 to 2022. Military personnel are defined as troops under the command of the national government and held ready for combat. Troops in the reserves, colonial troops, irregular forces such as civil defense units, frontier guards, gendarmerie, carabinieri, cossacks and other quasi-military units are not included. During times of war, a country will increase the spending of its military and the size of its military. This pattern has been seen for centuries. Russo-Japanese War, American Civil War, Russian Civil War, Chinese Civil War, WW1, WW2, Vietnam War - during all of these times, either through additional government allocation or through drafting, the countries at war would increase their military sizes. Watch on and take an adventure through centuries of history and wars to witness the size and scale of the largest armies in the world from 1820 to today. Data source: NMC (CINC) . For decades after it happened, Operation Mars would be taught in Soviet History books as a brilliant and effective diversion scheme that masterfully deceived the Germans. The official story claimed that Operation Uranus, the ambitious Soviet thrust to encircle Stalingrad, was the cornerstone of the Red Army's offensive, while operation Mars was merely a secondary diversion assault aimed at keeping the Germans near Rzhev from reinforcing the embattled city. But as Operation Uranus unfolded, the Soviets launched a second pincer maneuver on a salient located in the northern town of Rzhev. The tumultuous assault kept the German 9th Army engaged, leading a desperate defensive effort and prohibiting the soldiers from reinforcing their comrades in Stalingrad as they were being besieged. Nevertheless, another version of the events would emerge five decades later, portraying Operation Mars not as a clever distraction that fooled the German armies but as a massive, botched assault aimed to be even more significant than Uranus. The operation was filled with reckless actions and appalling mistakes that would lead to one of the most ruinous Soviet defeats in the war, earning the name of "The Rzhev Meat Grinder"… - As images and footage of actual events are not always available, Dark Docs sometimes utilizes similar historical images and footage for dramatic effect. Summary of Events 1939-1945 The European Theater GERMAN AGGRESSION The war in Europe began in September 1939, when Germany, under Chancellor Adolf Hitler, invaded Poland. Britain and France responded by declaring war on Germany but took little action over the following months. In 1940, Germany launched its next initiative by attacking Denmark and Norway, followed shortly thereafter by attacks on Belgium, the Netherlands, and France. All of these nations were conquered rapidly. THE BATTLE OF BRITAIN Later in the summer of 1940, Germany launched a further attack on Britain, this time exclusively from the air. The Battle of Britain was Germany’s first military failure, as the German air force, the Luftwaffe, was never able to overcome Britain’s Royal Air Force. GREECE AND NORTH AFRICA As Hitler plotted his next steps, Italy, an ally of Germany, expanded the war even further by invading Greece and North Africa. The Greek campaign was a failure, and Germany was forced to come to Italy’s assistance in early 1941. THE USSR Later in 1941, Germany began its most ambitious action yet, by invading the Soviet Union. Although the Germans initially made swift progress and advanced deep into the Russian heartland, the invasion of the USSR would prove to be the downfall of Germany’s war effort. The country was just too big, and although Russia’s initial resistance was weak, the nation’s strength and determination, combined with its brutal winters, would eventually be more than the German army could overcome. In 1943, after the battles of Stalingrad and Kursk, Germany was forced into a full-scale retreat. During the course of 1944, the Germans were slowly but steadily forced completely out of Soviet territory, after which the Russians pursued them across eastern Europe and into Germany itself in 1945. THE NORMANDY INVASION In June 1944, British and American forces launched the D-Day invasion, landing in German-occupied France via the coast of Normandy. Soon the German army was forced into retreat from that side as well. Thus, by early 1945, Allied forces were closing in on Germany from both east and west. The Soviets were the first to reach the German capital of Berlin, and Germany surrendered in May 1945, shortly after the suicide of Adolf Hitler. The Pacific Theater PEARL HARBOR The war in the Pacific began on December 7, 1941, when warplanes from Japan launched a surprise attack on the U.S. Navy base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. By this time, Japan had already been at war with China for several years and had seized the Chinese territory of Manchuria. After the Pearl Harbor attack, Japan began a massive campaign of expansion throughout the Southeast Asia–Pacific region. THE U.S. ENTRANCE AND BATTLE OF MIDWAY Although the Pearl Harbor attack provoked a declaration of war by the United States on Japan the very next day, it would be several months before U.S. forces would get seriously involved militarily. In late spring of 1942, the United States and Japan engaged in a series of naval battles, climaxing in the Battle of Midway on June 3–6, 1942, in which Japan suffered a catastrophic defeat. THE SOLOMON ISLANDS AND GUADALCANAL THE APPROACH TO JAPAN Fighting continued throughout the Pacific in 1944 and early 1945, including major battles at Leyte, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. By the late spring of 1945, most of Japan’s conquests had been liberated, and Allied forces were closing in on the Japanese home islands. As they neared Japan proper, the Allies began heavy bombing campaigns against major Japanese cities, including Tokyo. This process continued through the summer of 1945 until finally, in early August, the United States dropped two atomic bombs on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Stunned by the unexpected devastation, Japan surrendered a few days later.

The siege of Warsaw in 1939 was fought between the Polish Warsaw Army (Polish: Armia Warszawa) garrisoned and entrenched in Warsaw and the invading German Army. It began with huge aerial bombardments initiated by the Luftwaffe starting on September 1, 1939 following the Nazi invasion of Poland. Land fighting started on September 8, when the first German armored units reached the Wola district and south-western suburbs of the city. Despite German radio broadcasts claiming to have captured Warsaw, the initial enemy attack was repelled and soon afterwards Warsaw was placed under siege. General Czuma managed to gather enough forces and war material to successfully defend the city for several weeks longer. However, the situation of the civilian inhabitants of Warsaw became increasingly tragic. Constant bombardment of civilian facilities, lack of food and medical supplies resulted in heavy casualties among the city's population. On September 26, Army Warsaw General Juliusz Rómmel, started capitulation talks with the German commander. On September 27, at 12:00 a cease fire agreement was signed and all fighting halted. Soon afterwards, Warsaw capitulated. On September 29, the garrison of Warsaw started to hide or destroy their heavy armament. Some of the hidden war material was later used during the Warsaw Uprising. On September 30, the evacuation of Polish forces to German prisoner of war camps started and, the following day, German units entered the capital. City was occupied until January 17, 1945. #legoww2 #lcmhistory #ww2history
There is a second war raging on the Eastern Front. From the huge expanses of no man’s land behind the German lines, Moscow’s battle-hardened and well-armed partisan bands are waging a Rail War in support of Red Army offensives. But every successful mission brings down the wrath of the genocidal Axis war machine. In this video I will restore a chair that was bombed during WW2, in Tallinn. This chair was made in Poland by the company "WOJCIECHÓW" which is well known in the history of the Polish furniture industry, as it was the first Polish factory of bent beech furniture. It was founded in 1872 by Count Wojciech Poletyłło on part of his land in Wojciechów, where he had excellent access to the raw material, as the area was rich in beech forests. The company developed very dynamically, hence already in 1875. opened its branch in Warsaw at ul. Gęsia (on the premises of the former soap factory), where the bent furniture elements were delivered and only here, on the spot, they were assembled/screwed together and sold further. In 1884 Count Poletyłło's company was transformed into the "Towarzystwo Akcyjne Fabryki Mebli Giętych Wojciechów". The recipients of products from Wojciechów were customers not only from the Kingdom of Poland, but also from Russia, Germany, France, Belgium, and the company itself had its stores and warehouses, among others in Warsaw (at ul. Miodowa 3 and ul. Ossoliński 6 and at Krakowskie Przedmieście 13 and Plac Grzybowski 1), Poznań, Odesa, Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kyiv. Furniture was also sent to the countries of North and South America. Unfortunately, in 1925 the factory collapsed and was taken over by Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego. In 1927, it was further sold to a new private investor, who went bankrupt after five years. in 1929 furniture from the Auction Society of the Bent Furniture Factory "Wojciechów" was still presented at the famous General National Exhibition in Poznań, presenting the achievements of the reborn Polish State. It is officially assumed that the factory ceased its activity in 1933." 'Inside a German WW2 Tank Destroyer with Historian James Holland' James Holland investigates the mighty 'Jagdpanther', a German tank destroyer of WWII. The German Jagdpanther armoured vehicle was proposed in October 1942 and Adolf Hitler inspected a prototype some fourteen months later. A total of 392 were produced by two manufacturers up to March 1945. The turreted Panther tank mounted a 75mm gun but, by eliminating the turret and adding a fixed superstructure it proved possible to mount a larger gun, the Tiger’s formidable 88mm. The Jagdpanther was also renowned for the exceptional use of sloped armour and it remains a modern, sleek looking design. Join Military and Second World War Historian James Holland as he analyses this unique and rare tank destroyer, getting inside the vehicle with Mike Gibb from the Weald Foundation.
