My first upload entirely dedicated to a machine of the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed is about Travis Pastrana's Subaru GL Wagon. This insane car has been built by Hoonigan Motorsport and Subaru Motorsports USA as the new weapon for the next Gymkhana video which will be unveiled later this year. The car began its life as a 1983 Subaru GL Wagon, now named the “Family Huckster”, but as you can imagine not much of the original car remains. The original body panels have been tossed out in favour of bespoke carbon fibre pieces, while the car’s chassis has been upgraded to a lightweight tubular spaceframe. Under the hood a 4-cylinder boxer engine able to produce 862 hp, coupled to a 6-speed sequential gearbox and all-wheel drive. Despite the retro look, one of the wagon’s standout features is its active aerodynamics: a big rear aero wing at the back that works alongside the hydraulic aero flaps on the front and rear fenders. On top, a functional carbon-fiber roof rack helps direct air into a NACA duct on the roof that feeds it to the rear-mounted radiator. On the inside, you’ll find and original GL Wagon’s 1983 radio and a 12-inch digital gauge cluster featuring graphics and look straight from a 1980’s sci-fi movie. It was amazing to see Travis and his GL Wagon in action on Goodwood's hillclimb course as competitors of the official timed shootout. Here's my video about Travis Pastrana's Subaru GL Wagon I've filmed during the 2022 Festival of Speed! This car has been built by Subaru Motorsports USA and Vermont SportsCar as the new weapon for the next Gymkhana video which will be unveiled later this year. It's based on a 1983 Subaru GL Wagon, now named the “Family Huckster”, and it's powered by a turbocharged 2.3-liter 4-cylinder boxer engine able to produce 862hp, featuring a 6-speed sequential gearbox, an all-wheel drive system and long travel suspensions (for jumps of course). Also installed on the Family Huckster is an active aero rear wing, which is controlled electro-pneumatically, along with front and rear hydraulic aero flaps located on the fender flares which can be controlled automatically or manually. And to make the car as light as possible, the bodywork is composed of custom carbon fiber panels over a custom tubular spaceframe, which was designed around the most current FIA WRC regulations, including a twin-main hoop design for increased safety. November of 2016, I found an online posting of a 1984 Subaru GL Hatchback for sale in Hood River, Oregon. Merl, the 2nd owner of the Subaru, asked an employee at his local Les Schwab tire center to list the Subaru for sale as he wasn’t comfortable advertising it. In the coming days, I arranged for my friend Phil and I to drive down in a slightly more modified 84’ Subaru GL built by Gregg Huld More to the story here: 🤍

On a recent trip with our friend from Nokian Tyres, we encountered a rare Subaru GL 4wd! Not exactly sure about the year but a few interesting facts: - Subaru GL 4WD. - It's 4wd not AWD - You have a transfer case with 3 modes: FWD, 4wd HIGH, 4wd LOW. - There is a lot of digital display for this years - Plate: LIL ROO in UTAH - Five-speed manual transmission - 73-horsepower (or maybe 84 hp, depending on options).. but not sure because of the years. - Owners: Cooper Moutain Ski Resort - Sounds like a Subaru! - Rolls in winter on Nokian Hakkapeliitta 9 Check out our video review of the rare Rare Subaru GL 4wd! Here's a walk around and on and off road "road test" video featuring my 1985 Subaru GL Wagon. The wagon is a 5 speed manual transmission front wheel drive (FWD), which is great in the snow, but it is also a four wheel drive (4X4) with high and low speeds in 4X4 which come in very handy when off roads and away from civilization. This transmission option in 1985 was named Dual Range (D/R). I purchased the wagon in 1995 in Denver Colorado and have carefully maintained the wagon over the years doing most of the needed work myself. The wagon is quite agile on and off road and carries an impressive amount of cargo. While the wagon has been kept mostly stock (as factory equipped), the rear suspension is recently upgraded to carry more weight without riding low. Approximately 20,000 miles ago the clutch and rear main seal and timing belts were replaced. Still, the wagon requires some minor repairs today like the fan (likely the relay switch), the interior cabin lights, the front driver's seat needs re-upholstery (many times people choose to swap in both front seats from a much newer car), tailgate gas struts replaced, some stereo work, an unknown short circuit which drains the battery after a few days, and the new owner may want the sheet metal repairs done and then a quick repaint to really sharpen up the wagon's exterior. Recently I added the wagon to Craigslist for a possible sale and created this video to help potential buyers see the Subaru and current actual condition. I am having the wagon re-smog certified at the moment for a California sale and proper title transfer and out of state buyers are welcomed.
