Masala Fish Curry Recipe | Fish Curry Recipe | Fish Curry | Masala Fish Recipe | Rohu Fish Curry | Fish Recipe | Fish Curry by Spice Eats Ingredients for Masala Fish Curry: - Fish (Rohu, Katla, Asian Carp) - 500 gms For marination: - Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp - Red Chilli Powder- 1 tsp - Salt- 3/4 tsp For Masala Paste: - Cumin seeds- 1 tsp - Dried Red Chillies- 2 - Garlic- 10 cloves - Green Chillies- 2-3 (cut into 2) - Red Chilli Powder- 1.5 tsp - Coriander Powder- 1.5 tsp - Turmeric Powder- 1/4 tsp Other Ingredients: - Onion, grated- 2 medium (around 130 gms) - Kasuri Methi (dried Fenugreek leaves)- 1 tsp - Curry leaves- 15-20 - Tamarind, soaked in water- 4 tbsp juice - Thick coconut milk- 4 tbsp - Salt to taste- 1/2 tsp - Coriander leaves for garnishing- 2 tbsp - Oil - 3 tbsp + oil for pan frying the fish pieces Preparation: - Clean, wash and pat dry the fish pieces. Add the turmeric, red chilli powder, salt and mix well. Set aside for 30 mins. - To prepare the Masala paste, take a pan and dry roast the red chillies and cumin seeds on low heat for 1 minute. Now add the garlic cloves and continue roasting on low heat for another 2 mins. Set aside to cool. Add them to blender/grinder along with the green chillies. Coarse grind. - Now add 3-4 tbsp of water and blend it into a smooth paste. The masala paste should have thin consistency so you can add more water to make into a thin consistency. - To pan fry the marinated fish, add oil to a frying pan and place the fish pieces side by side. - Fry on medium heat for 2 mins and turn it on the other side. Continue to fry on medium heat for 2 mins. Take these out on a plate. Process: - Heat oil in a flat pan or kadai. - Add the grated onions and fry on medium heat for 7-8 mins till light brown in colour. - Now add the masala paste and give a mix, add 1/2 tsp salt to it and continue to fry on medium heat for 3 mins till water dries up and oil separates. - Add the dried fenugreek leaves (Kasuri Methi) and fry 1 min on medium heat. Add the curry leaves and fry on low to medium heat for 2 mins. - Now add the tamarind juice, give a mix and then add 250 ml water. Cook it on medium heat till it comes to a boil. - Lower the heat and place the fried fish pieces side by side and cover & cook on low heat for 5 mins. - Remove lid and flip the fish pieces. For Frying In a pan heat mustard oil and fry the marinated fish on medium high heat from both sides until golden brown. Remove and keep aside. Then add the potato wedges and also fry them until golden brown in the same oil. Remove them and keep aside for further use. For Fish Curry In the same pan with the remaining oil add bay leaf, onion seeds, ginger julienne, green chillies and saute for a few seconds. Now add onion paste and continue cooking on medium heat until it turns light brown and oil starts separating. Then add fried potato, degi red chilli powder, water, salt and cook until the potatoes are completely cooked. Add cubed tomatoes, fried fish and stir it properly with light hands. Fish Curry in Coconut Gravy | Boneless Fish Gravy | Fish Curry Recipe | Fish Curry in Coconut Milk Recipe | Fish Curry with Coconut Milk | Fish in Coconut Sauce | Fish in Coconut Milk Recipe | Fish Curry | Fish Recipe | Fish Curry by Spice Eats Ingredients for Fish Curry: - Boneless fish fillets - 500 gms (Basa, Cod, Haddock,Sole or Catfish) For the Tempering: - Mustard Seeds- 1/2 tsp - Curry Leaves- 10-15 leaves - Green Chillies, chopped- 2-3 nos. Onion Masala paste: - Onion, cubed- 2 medium (150 gms.) - Ginger chopped- 1” piece - Garlic cloves- 6 - Cumin Seeds- 1 tsp Spice Powders: - Turmeric Powder- 1/2 tsp - Red Chilli Powder- 2 tsp Other Ingredients: - Tomato purée or paste- 3 tbsp (readymade) - Coconut Milk- 1 cup (225 ml) - White Vinegar- 2 tsp - Refined Oil- 3 tbsp - Salt- 1 tsp Preparation: - Make a paste of the cubed onions, peeled and chopped ginger, peeled garlic and cumin seeds. Remove and set aside. - Chop the green chillies and wash & take out the curry leaves. - For the coconut milk you can use readymade coconut milk or make fresh coconut milk from fresh coconut at home. - For the fish, take boneless fish fillets and cut them into thick slices. Process: - Heat oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds. Once it splutters, add the curry leaves and the chopped green chillies. - Give a stir and then add the Onion paste. Give a mix and continue to fry on medium heat for 7-8 mins till light brown in color. - Now add the tomato purée, give a mix and fry on low heat for 2 mins. - Now add the Turmeric, Red Chilli Powder and salt. Give a mix and fry on medium heat for 2-3 mins after adding 3 tbsp water till oil separates. - Add the coconut milk and 200 ml water, give a mix and cover & cook on low heat for 5 mins till oil separates. - Now add the boneless fish pieces and give a mix. Cover & cook on low heat for 10 mins. - Add the white vinegar, shake the pan to give a mix. Make Paste of: - Onion, quartered, medium ones- 2 nos. - Tomatoes, quartered, medium ones-3 nos. - Green Chilli - 1 big or 2 small as per taste To Marinate Fish: - Salt- 1 tsp - Turmeric powder-3/4th tsp - Red Chilli Powder- 1 tsp For the Curry: - Ginger garlic paste- 2 tsp - Coriander powder- 1.5 tsp - Cumin powder- 3/4 tsp - Red Chilli Powder- 1.5 tsp - Garam Masala Powder- 1/2 tsp (Link to our Garam Masala Recipe: 🤍 - Coconut milk- 1 cup - Coriander leaves, chopped- 2 tbsp - Salt- 1/2 tsp Oil - 3 tbsp & oil for pan-frying the fish pieces Preparation: - Marinate the fish pieces with salt, turmeric powder & red chilli powder. Mix well & set aside for around 30 mins. - Make a paste of the quartered onions, tomatoes and one or two green chillies. - Prepare coconut milk or use store-bought coconut milk. - Pan-fry the fish pieces in 2 batches. Remove & set aside. - Chop the coriander leaves. Process: - Heat oil in a kadai & add the onion-tomato-chilli paste. - Fry on medium to low heat for around 7-8 mins. - Add the ginger garlic paste. - Mix & continue to fry for another 15 mins on medium heat, till the paste is cooked & has a little grainy texture. Make sure that the masala doesn’t burn or become brown in color. - Add the red Chilli powder, Coriander powder, Cumin powder & 1/2 tsp salt and mix it well. One of the dishes that is both popular, and always hits the spot is a Kerala style Kottayam fish curry. And so today we’re going to make it, together. We had Kottayam fish curry a number of times throughout Kerala, home cooked, in the jungle and homely restaurant, and at a legendary toddy shop, known for serving extra spicy Indian food. They were all extremely delicious. Ok, let’s get started on this recipe: Ingredients: ½ kg. King Mackerel 3 tbsp coconut oil 1 tbsp mustard seeds 1 tbsp fenugreek seeds 10 - 15 dried whole chilies 4 - 6 stems of curry leaves 50 grams ginger 1 head garlic 6 small shallots 20 grams dried pot tamarind - soak in 300 ml water for 15 minutes. 4 tbsp. Kashmiri chili 4 tbsp. Strong chili 2 tbsp. Coriander powder ½ tbsp. Turmeric powder ½ tbsp. Black pepper Salt to taste Method: Pound ginger and garlic into a coarse paste. Slice shallots. Set all dry spices aside on a plate so you can use them quickly. Soak dry pot tamarind in water and set aside for at least 15 minutes to extract the flavor. Begin cooking by heating coconut oil in pot. When hot, immediately toss in mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, curry leaves, and whole dried chilies. Fry for a few seconds until smoky and fragrant. Add ginger garlic paste and shallots and stir fry until golden and fragrant. Add all dry spices, if it gets to dry add a little water, and make into a paste. Add pot tamarind water, and mix into spices. You can also add some extra water to make it liquid. Season with salt to taste. Taste test to balance spices, pot tamarind sourness, and salt. Add more if needed. Final step is to add the fish - and once you add it - don’t stir your curry. Make sure fish is submerged into curry sauce. Simmer to 5 - 10 minutes depending on how big your fish is. When fish is cooked, curry is ready. Eat with rice, or tubers. Transfer it to a grinder jar and make a smooth paste. Keep it aside for further use. For Marination In a bowl, add fish, salt to taste, turmeric powder, degi red chili powder, mustard oil and mix it well. Keep it aside for further use. For Frying In a kadai, add mustard oil, once it's hot, add marinated fish and fry for 3-4 minutes or until 70% cooked. Transfer it to a tray and keep it aside for further use. For Fish Curry In the same kadai, add fried fish oil, once it's hot, add black mustard seeds and let it splutter well. Add tomatoes, coriander leaves and saute for a minute. Add prepared paste and cook it for a while. Add degi red chili powder, turmeric and mix well. Add water, salt to taste, green chillies and let it simmer for a while. Add coriander leaves, tomatoes, fried fish and cook for 5-7 minutes on low flame. Transfer it to a serving dish and garnish it with coriander sprig. Punjabi Fish Curry | Punjabi Fish Masala Recipe | Fish Curry Recipe | Masala Fish Curry Recipe | Fish Curry | Masala Fish Recipe | Rohu Fish Curry | Fish Recipe | Fish Curry by Spice Eats Ingredients Punjabi Fish Curry: - Fish- 500 gms (Rohu, Trout, Asian Carp) For Marination: - Turmeric Powder- 1/2 tsp - Red Chilli Powder- 1 tsp - Coriander Powder- 2 tsp - Cumin Powder- 1/2 tsp - Salt- 1 tsp - Ginger Garlic paste- 2 tsp - Green Chillies, crushed- 2 tsp (around 3-4 green chillies) - Lemon Juice- 2 tsp - Refined Oil- 1 tbsp For Onion-Tomato paste: - White Onion, sliced- 2 medium - Red Tomatoes, sliced- 2 medium Other Ingredients: - Garam Masala Powder- 1/2 tsp - Chaat Masala Powder- 1/2 tsp - Kasuri Methi (Fenugreek leaves)- 1 tbsp - Refined Oil- 4 tbsp - Salt for seasoning- 1/4 tsp Preparation: - Take 3-4 green chillies, break into pieces and crush it in a mortar & pestle. Take out 2 tsps of it for adding during marination. - Wash and pat dry the fish pieces. Add all the ingredients for the marinade, mix well and set aside for 30 mins. - Slice the onions and tomatoes. - To make the Onion-Tomato paste, heat 1.5 tbsp of refined oil in a pan and add the sliced onions. Fry on medium heat for 3-4 mins till it starts turning brown. Now add the sliced tomatoes, give a mix and fry on medium heat for 2-3 mins till it becomes soft. - Allow it to cool and then add in a blender. Blend it once and then add around 150 ml water. Blend it into a gravy like paste. Process: - Heat oil in a pan and add the marinated fish pieces side by side. - Fry the fish pieces on medium heat for 3 mins on each side till slightly browned. - Now add the onion-tomato paste, give a gentle mix and cook on low heat for 4-5 mins till oil separates. - Add 200 ml water, Garam masala powder and 1/4 tsp (or to taste) salt to season and give a gentle mix. Cover & cook on low heat for 10 mins till oil separates. - Remove the lid and add the Chaat Masala and roasted & powdered Kasuri Methi (fenugreek leaves). Ingredients Sardine fish – 1 kg Ginger – 1 nos Garlic – 5 or 6 nos Shallots – 9 to 10 nos Green chilli – 3 nos Curry leaves – 3 sprigs Tomato – 2 nos Red chilli powder – 1 ½ tbsp. Turmeric powder – 1 tsp Malabar tamarind -4 or 5 nos Fenugreek seed – 1 tsp Mustard seed – 1 tsp Oil – 3 or 4 tsp Salt – 1 or 2 tsp Method Firstly ,we have to cut , clean and wash ,set aside. Take a bowl add Malabar tamarind and water ,soak them well. Then we have to crush ginger and garlic set aside. Take a bowl add red chilli powder and water ,mix them well and set aside. Heat oil in a pan add mustard seed and fenugreek seed ,lets them crackled. Add chopped shallots ,green chilli ,curry leaves and ginger garlic paste ,saute them well. Then add chopped tomato and saute till they become soften. Then pour red chilli water mix and combine them well. Add turmeric powder and salt saute them well. Then add soaked Malabar tamarind and cleaned sardine fish ,mix ,cover and cook them well. Finally sprinkle some curry leaves and cook for five minutes. Remove from fire and set aside. Spicy Fish Curry of Andhra INGREDIENTS: Fish ( pieces) - 500gms Turmeric powder - ½ tsp Chilli powder - 2 tsp Lime juice - 1tsp Salt - As Per Taste Oil - as required Onions - 2 nos. Tomatoes - 2 nos. Mustard seeds - 1 tsp Cumin seeds - 1 tsp Red chillies - 5 nos. Ginger - 1 piece Garlic - 10 cloves Curry leaves - 1 spring Coriander powder - 1 tsp Tamarind juice - 1 cup Coriander leaves - 1 bunch DIRECTIONS: Take fish pieces in a bowl, add turmeric powder, chilli powder, lime juice, salt marinate it and fry them both sides into the hot oil and transfer into a plate. In the same oil, add onions, salt, tomatoes saute it, put it in the blender and grind into a fine paste. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, red chillies, chopped ginger, garlic, curry leaves and fry them till they splutter, add onion and tomato paste cook it for few minutes. Then add chilli powder, coriander powder, tamarind juice cook it for few minutes by adding water. Now, add the fried fish pieces cook it till oil oozes out the gravy. At last, add coriander leaves cook it for 2 minutes using a lid. Then switch off the flame. Spicy fish curry ready to serve with hot rice or roti. Fish Curry Village Style | Fish Gravy Recipe Andhra Style | Fish Curry Recipe | Fish Curry | Chepala Pulusu Andhra Style | Rohu Fish Curry | Chepala Pulusu Recipe | Fish Recipe | Fish Curry by Spice Eats Ingredients for Fish Curry: - Fish- 1 Kg (Rohu, Trout, Asian Carp) Onion-Tomato-Chilli Paste: - Onion, quartered- 3 medium - Tomatoes, quartered- 2 medium - Green Chillies, cut- 3 Roasted Masala Powder: - Coriander Seeds- 1.5 tsp - Cumin Seeds- 3/4 tsp - Methi Seeds(Fenugreek seeds)- pinch (1/8 tsp) Tempering: - Mustard Seeds- 1 tsp - Curry Leaves- 15-20 Other Ingredients: - Ginger Garlic paste- 2 tbsp - Turmeric Powder- 1 tsp - Red Chilli Powder- 5-6 tsp - Tamarind pulp- 50 gm tamarind soaked in 200 ml water & strained - Oil- 6 tbsp - Salt- 2 tsp + 1/4 tsp for seasoning Preparation: - Soak 50 gms of tamarind in 200 ml of warm warm for 30 mins. Strain it to remove the seeds and get a thick tamarind pulp. - Alternatively you can also use readymade tamarind paste but you will have to add less since that is more sour. - Peel & quarter the onions and tomatoes, cut the green chillies. - Add all these into a grinder/blender and blend into a smooth paste. - Dry roast the items for the Spice Powder (coriander, cumin and methi seeds) in a pan on low heat for 2-3 mins. Remove onto a plate to cool and then grind it into a powder. Process: - Heat oil in a pot/pan and add the mustard seeds and curry leaves. Give a stir and then add the Onion-Tomato-Chilli paste. Fry on medium heat for 5 mins and then add the Ginger Garlic paste. Mix and continue to fry on medium heat for another 5 mins till the paste is cooked and no raw smell remains. - Now add the Turmeric, Red Chilli Powder & salt, give a mix and continue to fry on medium to low heat for 3-4 mins till the masala is cooked. - Add the tamarind pulp, give a mix and add 450 ml water. Give a mix and cover with a lid. - Cook covered on low heat for 10 mins till the gravy is cooked & oil separates. - Slide in the fish pieces side by side and gently stir them in the gravy. - Cover & cook on low heat for 10 mins. - Remove the lid and add in the roasted masala powder. Shake the pan gently to mix. - Add salt for seasoning. Rohu Fish Masala Curry | Rohu Fish Masala Recipe | How To Make Fish Curry | Masala Fish Recipe | Fish Gravy | Rohu Fish Curry | Fish Recipe | Fish Curry by Spice Eats | Fish Curry Recipe Ingredients for Fish Curry: (Tsp-Teaspoon; Tbsp-Tablespoon) - Fish - 500 gms (Rohu, Katla, Asian Carp) For Marination: - Turmeric Powder- 3/4 tsp - Red Chilli Powder- 2.5 tsp - Garlic paste (8-9 cloves, fine crushed)- 1 tbsp - Salt- 1 tsp - Mustard Oil- 1 tbsp Masala Paste: - Coriander Seeds- 3.5 tsp - Cumin Seeds- 2 tsp - Red Chillies-3 - Garlic Cloves- 8 (10 gms) - Red tomatoes, cubed- 250 gms (3 medium) - Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp - Salt- a pinch Other Ingredients: - Mustard Oil- 2 tbsp - Refined Oil- 2-3 tbsp for pan frying the fish - Green Cardamoms, crushed- 4-5 nos - Mustard paste- 3 tbsp (From 4 tsp mustard seeds soaked for 2-3 hrs) - Salt for seasoning- 1/8 -1/4 tsp - Coriander leaves, chopped- 2 tbsp (For garnish) Preparation: - Soak the mustard seeds in water for2-3 hrs. Drain the water, coarse grind it and then add 3 tbsp water & grind to a paste. - Crush 8-9 garlic cloves into a rough paste and then marinate the fish pieces with the items specified. Mix and set aside for 30-60 mins. - Now to make the Masala paste, add the coriander seeds, cumin seeds and the red chillies in a pan and dry roast on low heat for 2 mins. Add the peeled garlic cloves, mix and continue to dry roast on low heat for another minute. Remove into a plate and allow it to cool. - Now take a grinder, add this and coarse grind it. Add all the other items for the paste and grind it to a paste. Add little water if required. Process: - Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a frying pan. Place the marinated pieces of fish side by side and fry on medium high heat for 3 mins. Flip the fish pieces and continue to fry on medium high heat for 3 mins. - Flip again and fry on medium low heat for 2 mins on each side till browned. - Remove the fish pieces to a plate and strain the cooled oil(in which fish was fried) in a bowl for use later. - To make the curry, heat 2 tbsp mustard oil in a curry pan. Heat the oil till it starts smoking and then switch off heat. - Allow the oil to cool a bit and then add the crushed green cardamoms. - Give a stir and then add the blended paste and the mustard paste. Cook on medium high heat for around 8-9 mins till oil starts to separate. - Now add 200 ml water, mix and cover & cook on low heat for 10 mins till the paste is cooked and oil separates. - Add back the fried fish pieces, mix these in and then cover & cook on low heat for another 8-10 mins till oil separates. Meen Kulambu / Fish Kulambu is a staple food in Southern parts of India. There are several variants of Fish Curry recipe which involve combinations of tamarind, coconut and green mango. All of them have one thing in common that is when you make the fish curry perfectly the smell is going to diffuse and invite your neighbors. Today we are going to see the traditional variation of this recipe. Sri Lankan fish curry or Meen Kulambu in the local language is one of the tastiest and lip-smacking seafood dishes in Sri Lanka. Usually, this curry is prepared from coconut oil, a lot of spices, and coconut milk. For making this curry, I have used mackerel slices, It’s up to you to choose the fish of your choice. Generally in Srilanka, they use Goraka as a souring agent, But you can substitute it for Tamarind if you don’t find it around. At first, the fish is marinated with salt and turmeric. Then the curry is prepared by cooking Onion, Tomato, and spices along with Coconut milk until it turns thick. Then the marinated fish is cooked along with the rich curry. It tastes really good when served with hot steaming rice. King Fish Recipe | Surmai Fish Curry Masala | Vanjaram Fish Recipe | Seer Fish Curry | Surmai Fish Curry | Surmai Fish Curry Recipe | King Fish Curry Recipe | Vanjaram Fish Curry | Fish Gravy Recipe | Fish Curry Recipe Ingredients for Surmai Fish Curry: (Tsp- Teaspoon; Tbsp- Tablespoon ) - Fish Steaks - 500 gms (King Mackerel/Surmai/Vanjaram) For the Masala Paste: - Coriander Seeds- 1.5 tsp - Cumin Seeds- 1.5 tsp - Kashmiri Chillies- 5 - Black Peppercorns- 8 - Tamarind Juice/Pulp- 4 tbsp - Salt- 1/2 tsp Spice Powders: - Turmeric Powder- 1/2 tsp - Red Chilli Powder- 1 tsp Other Ingredients: - Grated Onion- 2 small (100 gms) - Green Chillies, slit- 3 - Ginger Garlic paste- 1.5 tsp - Coconut Milk- 1 US cup measure - Salt- 3/4 tsp - Groundnut Oil or any white oil - 3 tbsp - Coriander leaves, chopped- 3 tbsp Preparation: - Take thick steaks/fillets of King Fish/Surmai. Wash and pat dry. Set aside. - Dry roast the Coriander seeds, Cumin seeds, Black Peppercorns & Kashmiri Chillies in a pan on low heat for 2-3 minutes. Set aside to cool. - Soak small lemon sized tamarind in water to take out pulp/juice. Once soaked, take out 4 tbsp juice from it. You can use readymade tamarind pulp too but use less quantity since that tends to be very sour. - To make the Masala Paste, add the roasted & cooled spices in a grinder and grind to a coarse powder. Now add the tamarind pulp and 1/2 tsp salt. Grind it to a smooth paste by adding 3-4 tbsp water. - Grate the onions and slit the green chillies. - Prepare the coconut milk by blending together coconut pulp with water. Strain the coconut using a cloth or sieve/strainer. You can also use readymade coconut milk. Process: - Heat the groundnut oil in a pan and add the slit green chillies. Give a stir and add the grated onion. Mix and fry on medium heat for around 5-6 mins till onion changes colour. - Now add the ginger garlic paste, give a mix and fry on low heat for 2 mins. - Add the Masala paste (made in the grinder) and mix it well. - Add the turmeric & red chilli powders and fry on medium heat for 4-5 mins till oil separates. - Now add 1 cup coconut milk and 200 ml water and give a mix. Add 3/4 tsp salt. Cook on low heat for around 2-3 mins till oil separates. - Give a mix and add the King/Surmai fish steaks and give a gentle stir. - Cover & cook on low heat for around 15 mins. - Shake the pan gently to mix. - Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and simmer for around 2 mins. - Serve with white rice. #kingfishrecipe #surmaifishcurry #vanjaramfishcurry #fishcurry #spiceeatsrecipes #spiceeatsfishcurry

Masala Fried Fish Curry| Masala Fish Curry Recipe | Fried Masala Fish Curry | Fish Curry | Masala Fish Recipe | Rohu Fish Curry | Spice Eats Fish Curry Ingredients for Masala Fried Fish Curry: - Fish pieces (around 6-7)- 500gms (Rohu, Katla or Asian Carp) For Marination: - Salt- 1 tsp - Red Chilli Powder- 1 tsp - Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp - Ginger Garlic Paste- 1 tsp - Lemon juice- 2 tsp Masala Paste: - Cumin Seeds- 1.5 tsp - Coriander Seeds- 1 tbsp - Kashmiri Red Chillies- 4 nos. - Ginger, chopped- 1” piece - Garlic cloves- 8 - Fresh Coconut grated- 1/2 cup Other Ingredients: - Curry leaves- 15-20 leaves - Garam Masala Powder- 3/4 tsp (Link to our Garam Masala Recipe: 🤍 - Tamarind Pulp- 3 tbsp - Thick Coconut Milk- 4 tbsp - Salt- 1/2 tsp or to taste - Refined Oil- 3 tbsp + 2 tbsp for shallow frying Preparation: - Marinate the fish pieces with items indicated & set aside for 20-30 mins - Heat 1 tbsp oil in a frying pan and shallow fry the fish pieces on both sides till golden. - Fry for 2 mins on medium heat on both sides and then on low heat for 1 min on each side. Remove on to a plate. - To make the Masala Paste, first dry roast the cumin seeds, coriander seeds and Kashmiri red chillies in a pan on low heat for 2-3 mins. Set aside and allow it to cool. Now transfer it to a grinder/ blender and add the chopped ginger, garlic cloves and grated fresh coconut. - Grind it into a coarse powder first and then blend it into a paste after adding 1/2 cup of water. Process: - Heat 3 tbsp oil in a kadai or pan and add the curry leaves. Give a stir and then add the blended masala paste. Sauté on medium heat for 3 mins and then on low heat for 5-6 mins till the paste is fried. - Now add the garam masala powder and 2 tbsp water and fry on low heat for 2-3 mins. - Add tamarind pulp and 200 ml water and simmer for around 2 mins. - Add the fried fish pieces , give a stir and cover & cook on low heat for around 10 mins. - Open the cover and add the thick coconut milk. Today we're making Asam Pedas or Fish cooked in a Spicy Tamarind Gravy. Asam Pedas literally translates as 'Sour Spicy'. This is a Malay style of fish curry, it's spicy, sourness makes it addictively more-ish, especially when served with rice. I used Tenggiri here, or Mackerel, but you can essentially make this with your favourite fish, such as salmon (my fave!), sting ray, snapper, or pomfret. 00:20 - Preparing the Tamarind or Asam 00:48 - Preparing Dried Chillies 01:19 - Blending up the Spice Base Paste 02:11 - Cooking the Dish How to make basic Dried Chilli Paste: 🤍 Ingredients: - 300g of Fish (I used Mackerel or Ikan Tenggiri) - 3-4 stalks of Okra - 1-2 Tomatoes - 1/4 cup Cooking Oil - 1 tsp Salt - 1 tsp Sugar - 1 tsp Tamarind or Asam Paste + 100ml of water to create a juice* - 1-2 stalks of Vietnamese Mint Leaves or Daun Kesum (I used Curry Leaves, kaffir lime leaves is also a good alternative) - 2 cups Water Blended Paste: - 2 tbsps of Dried Chilli Paste or 10 stalks of Dried Chillies, soaked in boiling water - 1 Onion - 2 Garlic - 1 inch Ginger - 1 tsp Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp Belachan or Dried Shrimp Paste - Water for easier blending More info here: 🤍 Connect with me: instagram.com/nomadetteats nomadette.com

Dhaba Style Fish Curry | Rohu Fish Curry Dhaba Style | Fish Curry Recipe | Masala Fish Curry Recipe | Fish Curry | Masala Fish Recipe | Rohu Fish Curry | Fish Recipe | Spice Eats Fish Curry Ingredients Dhaba Style Fish Curry: - Fish- 500 gms (Rohu, Trout, Asian Carp) For Marination: - Gram Flour (Besan)- 1 tbsp - Kashmiri Chilli Powder- 1 tsp - Turmeric Powder- 1/2 tsp - Coriander Powder- 1/2 tsp - Cumin Powder- 1/2 tsp - Salt- 1 tsp - Lemon Juice- 2 tsp - Refined Oil- 2 tbsp - Water- 1 tbsp For Onion-Tomato paste: - White Onion, cubed/quartered- 2 big (200 gms) - Ginger, chopped- 1” piece (9 gms) - Garlic cloves- 5-6 (9 gms) - Red Tomatoes, cubed- 2 big (200 gms) Spice Powders : - Turmeric Powder- 1/4 tsp - Red Chilli Powder- 1 tsp - Coriander Powder- 1 tsp - Kashmiri Chilli Powder- 1 tsp - Cumin Powder- 3/4 tsp Other Ingredients: - Mustard Seeds- 1/2 tsp - Green Chillies chopped- 2-3 nos - Kasuri Methi (Fenugreek leaves)- 2 tsp - Refined Oil- 3 tbsp & oil for pan frying the fish pieces - Salt for seasoning- 1/2 tsp - Coriander Leaves chopped- 2 tbsp Preparation: - Mix the items for the marinade in a bowl. Add all the fish pieces and mix them to coat the fish pieces with the masala mix. Set aside for 30 mins. - Cube or quarter the onions and tomatoes, peel the ginger & garlic. Chop the ginger, green chillies and coriander leaves. - To make the Onion-Tomato paste, add the onion, tomatoes, ginger and garlic into a blender/grinder and blend it into a smooth paste. - Dry roast the Kasuri Methi (Fenugreek leaves). Crush it with your hand once cooled. Process: - Heat oil in a pan for shallow frying and add the marinated fish pieces side by side. - Fry the fish pieces on medium heat for 3 mins on each side till slightly browned. Continue to fry on high heat for 2 mins on both sides. Remove and set aside on a plate. - Now take another wok or kadhai and heat oil. Add the mustard seeds and when it splutters, add the chopped green chillies. - Now add the onion-tomato paste, give a mix and fry on high to medium heat for 20 mins till the paste is fried & reduced and oil separates. - Now add the spice powders and salt, give a mix and continue to fry on medium to low heat for 5-6 mins till the masala is cooked & granular and oil separates. - Add 400 ml water, give a mix and add the fried fish pieces. Cover and cook on low heat for 10 mins till oil separates. - Remove the lid and add the roasted & powdered Kasuri Methi (fenugreek leaves). For marination: - Salt- 1 tsp - Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp - Red Chilli powder- 1 tsp For the paste: - Cumin seeds- 5 tsp - Mustard seeds- 1 tsp - Poppy seeds or Khuskhus- 1 tsp - Coriander powder- 1 tsp - Red Chilli powder- 1.5 - tsp - Garlic pods peeled- 25 nos ( around 30 gms) - Salt- 1/2 tsp - Oil- 4 tbsp + oil for pan frying the fish - Coconut milk- 300 ml Preparation: - Clean & wash the fish pieces. Marinate with 1 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp turmeric powder & 1 tsp red Chilli powder. - To make the paste, dry roast the cumin seeds, mustard seeds & poppy seeds. Cool & grind to a powder. Now add the coriander powder, 1.5 tsp red Chilli powder & peeled garlic cloves. Grind it once to mix everything. Now add water & grind to a smooth paste. Set aside for use later. - Slice the 3 medium onions. - Prepare the coconut milk. Process: - Take a frying pan & heat oil. Add half of the fish pieces side by side. Fry on medium heat for around 2-3 mins. Turn them again & fry for another 2-3 mins on medium heat. - Repeat once more till it is evenly browned. Remove & repeat the process for the balance pieces. - Now take a kadhai & heat 4 tbsp oil. - Add the sliced onions and fry on high to medium heat till light brown. This should take around 10 mins. - Now add the ground paste and fry fry for 2 mins. - Add 1/2 tsp salt and fry on medium heat for around 5 mins.
