Cambodia is a Southeast Asian nation whose landscape spans low-lying plains, the Mekong Delta, mountains and Gulf of Thailand coastline. Phnom Penh, its capital, is home to the art deco Central Market, glittering Royal Palace and the National Museum's historical and archaeological exhibits. The operation took place at 9 pm on Tuesday, 16 August, at Preap Island in Sihanoukville. According to an EAC News reporter stationed in Sihanoukville, the bust took place while the suspects were loading the drugs onto a ferry at a port near a villa on the corner of Preap island in Sihanoukville. Police detained a Chinese suspect who was staying in the villa and continued to search the apartment behind Yapor Casino along Sete Street, where they gathered more evidence from inside. With suspects attempting to flee, police arrested another Chinese man driving a blue Visto with a license plate from Phnom Penh on Chumteav Mao Boulevard. A handgun and other items from the suspect’s car were confiscated. Evidence seized by the police include more than 871 kg of ketamine, a truck, a boat, a car and two motorcycles. The five arrested suspects and the seized evidence have been sent to the Sihanoukville Police, where a case is currently being filed for further legal procedure. ................................................................................................................ Sihanoukville, formerly Kompong Som and familiarly just Snookyville or even Snooky is a seaside town featuring Cambodia's best-known beaches. In a land with thousands of years of history, Sihanoukville is a colourful but tragic upstart. A mere fifty years ago, a joint French-Cambodian project carved a camp out of the jungle and started building the first deep-sea port in a newly independent Cambodia. Named Sihanoukville in 1964 after the ruling prince of Cambodia, the booming port and its golden beaches soon drew Cambodia's jet-setting elite, spawned the first Angkor brewery, and the modernist seven-story Independence Hotel. Alas, the party came to an abrupt end in 1970 when Sihanouk was deposed in a coup and Cambodia descended into civil war. The town, renamed Kompong Som, soon fell on hard times. The victorious Khmer Rouge used the Independence Hotel for target practice and, when they made the mistake of hijacking an American container ship, the port was bombed by the U.S. Air Force. Even after Pol Pot's regime was driven from power, the bumpy highway to the capital was long notorious for banditry and the beaches stayed empty. Peace returned in 1993 following historic elections and in the ensuing ten years Sihanoukville has been busy picking up the pieces. First visited only by a few intrepid backpackers, guide books still talk of walls pockmarked by bullets, but any signs of war are hard to spot in today's Sihanoukville, whose new symbol seems to be the construction site. After 30 years of housing only ghosts, the Independence Hotel is up and running again, more and more Khmers and expats have settled down to run bars and restaurants, and the knowledge of what the New York Times dubbed "Asia's next trendsetting beach" is starting to spread. Bird's eye view of Koh Puos or Kaoh Puos (Khmer: កោះពស់) Snake Island named during the French colonial period) is a small island located about 0.63 km (0 mi) off the coast of Sihanoukville city in southern Cambodia. It is administered by Sangkat 3 of Mittakpheap District in Sihanoukville Province. The island has been made accessible via a road bridge, completed in 2011 as part of a development initiative of the Russian Koh Puos Investment Group (KPIG). Sihanoukville, Cambodia the city at the tip of the rolling hills of a peninsula on the Gulf of Thailand. To its northwest and at its center it rises up to 15 meters (49 ft) above sea level, whereas the land gently and steadily flattens towards extended coastal.
