abandoned vw Scirocco mk1. Volkswagen began work on the car during the early 1970s as the replacement for the aging Karmann Ghia coupe, and designated it the Typ 53 internally. Although the platform of the Golf was used to underpin the new Scirocco, almost every part of the car was re-engineered in favour of a new styling (penned by Giorgetto Giugiaro) which was sleeker and sportier than that of the Golf. The Scirocco debuted at the 1973 Geneva Motor Show. Rear view of a pre-facelift model Launched six months before the Golf, in order to resolve any teething troubles before production of the high volume hatchback started, the Scirocco went on sale in Europe in 1974 and in North America in 1975. Type 1 models featured a range of four-cylinder engines with displacements from 1.1 to 1.6 litres, with a 1.7 also offered in North America, all featuring a single-overhead camshaft and two valves per cylinder. Rare lower model (L and S trims) European market Scirocco with rectangular headlights The design of the vehicle combined with the lack of D.O.T.-approved rectangular headlights, made it necessary to have four round headlights, two for low beam use and two for high beam use for all the cars imported to the US. Many European owners of Scirocco with smaller engines replaced the two rectangular headlights with four round headlights as to eliminate the differentiation between smaller and less powerful engines and larger and more powerful ones. However, the European "TS" version, for which maximum power was listed as 85 PS (84 hp; 63 kW), was easily distinguishable from the less powerful "L" and "S" (50 and 70 PS) versions which came with just two rectangular headlights. An automatic transmission option was added in January 1975. Automatic transmission-equipped Sciroccos were generally rare outside of North America. 1976 Scirocco GTi The Scirocco GTi entered production in the summer of 1976, while the later cult Golf GTI wasn't unveiled until the autumn of the same year. Its high-revving, 81 kW / 110 horsepower 1.6-litre engine featured mechanical fuel injection, 175/70HR13 tires on 5.5Jx13 wheels, a larger duckbill style front spoiler, a red frame for the grille, and the standard car's solid front brake discs were replaced with 9.4 in (239 mm) ventilated discs. Anti-roll bars were also fitted front and rear. Scirocco I side view: wrap-around front indicators and the plastic-coated one-piece wrap-around bumpers mark this out as a post 1978 car Rear view of facelift model During the production of the "Type 53", there were subtle changes to the body and trim. On cars produced after the summer break in August 1975 (for the 1976 model year), the conventional two wiper system changed to a single wiper which parks on the passenger side of the windscreen, while the driver also benefited from improved, lighter, steering linkage. However, air conditioning became available as an option on the domestic market in August 1975. The possibility to retrofit the installation, together with a larger battery, was offered to existing owners. In August 1977 (for model year 1978) the separate front side marker and turn signal, changed to a combination wrap-around orange lens. At the same time, behind the doors the B-pillar colour changed from body colour to black, which was thought to give the car a more pleasing profile. Other mid-life changes include the move from chrome bumpers with rubberised end caps to a plastic-coated one-piece wrap around bumper. In 1979, the one-piece "flag" style outside mirrors transitioned to a two-piece shrouded mirror. The car changed little before being replaced by the second generation in March 1981 (Europe). North American market Scirocco S There were also special variants throughout the Type 1 production. Most distinguishable by paint schemes and trim, there were special versions called "Sidewinder", "Sidewinder II", "Champagne Edition", "Champagne Edition II" and the "S". The Champagne Edition II only came in white with black accents and a Zender front spoiler. On the NA models the 1980 "S" versions came in only three colours, Alpine White, Black and Mars Red with unique colour accents. This "S" model differed from the base model by having blacked out chrome trim, day glow additions to the exterior trim, Recaro designed sports seats, white letter tires, sport strips and a standard five-speed transmission. This was followed by the 1981 "S" versions which only came in Cosmos Silver Metallic, Cirrus Gray Metallic and Mars Red without the colour accents. Steel sunroofs were an available option on both the "S" non-"S" vehicles. Unlike the sunroofs on the second-generation Sciroccos introduced in 1982, these earlier versions only tilted open. They did not slide back but could be removed and stored in a special fabric folder and placed in the trunk hatch.
Volkswagen has long been seen as a sensible brand, but around half a century ago, it was just a little too dull for its own good. The once-astonishing popularity of the Beetle had long since started to wane, and the company’s range was looking not just boring, but also outdated, with much of the line-up still using rear-mounted, air-cooled boxer engines. VW was making some steps in the right direction; for instance, the first-generation Passat, which arrived in 1973 with Audi 80-borrowed underpinnings including a longitudinally mounted, water-cooled inline-four engine. It wasn’t until the next year, however, that the firm's transformation for the future began in earnest. The change in direction wasn’t spearheaded by the Golf, however, as many might think. The first-generation version of the iconic family hatchback was actually beaten to the punch by a few months, by its cousin that was built on the same platform, the Scirocco. Making its debut at the 1974 Geneva Motor Show, the Scirocco featured a wedge-like fastback profile designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, who was also responsible for the less stylish but still-handsome Golf. As with the car it shared a platform with, the Scirocco featured a range of transversely mounted, water-cooled inline four-cylinder engines powering the front wheels. 🤍

The Scirocco was built in 1979 with an original 1.1l enigine and 50hp. The car in the original silver paint and tannengrün interior was on Hamburg since then. Tobias bought the car that has belonged to a good friend of him and turned it into that beauty in 6 weeks. On the 11.04. he started with the airlift suspension and change of the axle to a 5x112 setup. The BBS E26 in 6,5x17 ET 32 with 165/35-17 in the front and 7,5x17 ET 44 with 185/35-17 and 8mm spacers fit perfect to the Scirocco. On the 19.04. he went to Nordi to take the car into pieces for the painting. A few days later Nordi gave it a fresh paint and the two friends were able to put everything back together. In the morning of the 20.05. both went with the Rocco straight to Velden and the Wörthersee event. Slideshow and video shorts of this VWVortex build thread: 🤍 The main goal was a mk1 Scirocco with enough traction to handle a lot of power. I also wanted the car to look normal and be easily maintained with standard parts. The easiest and most cost-effective approach was to mate the body of a mk1 Scirocco to the floorpan, firewall, and front frame rails of a mk1 Audi TT 225Q, and then reinstall the 1.8t, AWD running gear, ABS brakes, pared-down electrical system, carpet and seats from the Audi. I built the dash and center console around the TT's instrument cluster and the center tunnel. 11:10 is brief full boost in 5th, from about 60 to 70 mph. This is Erwin Buck´s beautiful VW Scirocco Mk1 in its 2020 version, the very first year it is fitted with a 2.0L Engine, to battle on the ultra competitive E1 2000 Class of the Berg-Cup. The great dominator of the 1600cc Class in the past, it was converted now into a 300Hp/9.000Rpm Monster, with a entirely new engine made by Spiess Racing called the SP G02. Naturally Aspirated, 2.0L as said previously and weighing only 87Kg, this Aluminium block is pretty much a bespoke unit, specially made for Hillclimb Racing and strongly based on the Formula 3 engines where Spiess Racing specializes. Such a light motor contributes to the overall low weight of the car , which fits right into the limitation given by Berg-Cup rules, at 790Kg for the E1 2000 Class wher eit now competes. Unable to fight for the intended title this year because of the current World situation, it debuted at Turckheim as a participant of the 5 Nations Trophy where it accumulated its first competitive miles and showed incredible speed right away. We are sure that 2021 will see this machine posting some great results and battling with some of the Iconic 2.0L Monsters that are so popular on the Berg-Cup scene...
Dear viewers, here a short film of Marcel's Scirocco MK1. This beautiful copy from 1977 is totally standard and untouched... Maybe we can and may make an extensive video later. see you soon...

Perfection is, broadly, a state of completeness and flawlessness. If you have to find one word to describe what Tom did to his MK1 Scirocco, it is perfection. He spent hours and hours rebuilding, restoring and generally reengineering his Scirocco into something so damn perfect that not only is it in better condition than when it originally left the factory. Some people would be too afraid to drive it, but that's not the way Tom would spend his holidays in Italy at the SoGa event. He drove the car all around the lake and we had a great time with him and his friend Mitch to have some relaxed days with great Italian food and lookin for spots to take shots of the epic car. Coming from what seems now to be a distant 2012 year, this is Hans Paultisch´s VW Scirocco Mk1 screamer, one of our favourite Berg-Cup machines of all time. Powered by a 1.6L Naturally Aspirated engine producing a sonorous 254Hp/10.400Rpm, it benefitted from a total weight around 800Kg to be one of the fastest 1.6L class Monster of the old Group H. Here it can be seen attacking St. Agatha Bergrennen, one of the fastest Hillclimbs of the year of the Berg-Cup calendar, where you can observe with the Onboard footage just how quick and how high revving this little Monster is.
We took the scirocco over to France to blast about for the weekend

EXTERIOR This sleek elegant sports coupe is finished in Baikal Blue, (Code LK5A), which was one of three exclusive colours only available on the GTi. A deep lustrous shine is the result of a refresh commissioned at great expense and will amaze onlookers. The tapered bodywork blends beautifully into the moulded bumpers clearly displaying all the hallmarks of Giorgetto Giugiaro, the Italian automobile designer, widely recognised as one of the finest and most prolific car designers. Supplying dealer number plates and rear window sticker are still fitted and the discreet GTi badge adorns the tailgate. All front and rear lens covers are correct Hella items and there is a tiny hairline crack to the nearside indicator. All glass is factory original with the VW logos and the front screen still has the ‘running in’ sticker attached. Tremendous. INTERIOR The Blue dual tone cloth upholstery, (Code EH), is fully commensurate with the low 24,790 miles covered and along with the rest of the sporty interior justifies the term, time warp. Carpeting, headlining and door cards are in fabulous order and will delight perfection seeking individuals. All controls and gauges work with engineered precision including the additional VDO gauge and analogue clock housed in the unmarked centre console. The sports steering wheel proudly displays the Wolfburg Crest and all natural veins are visible due to the low mileage covered. The expensive and working Blaupunkt Melbourne M21 radio remains in situ along with the supplying dealer tax disc holder. The dash has no cracks. The boot area is remarkably clean with just a few marks still displaying the identification sticker on the cross member and a parcel shelf with unbroken straps. Superb. ENGINE & TRANSMISSION This rare cult-setting car is in excellent mechanical order and really asserts what early GTi ownership should be about, fun! The engine produces 110bhp at 6100rpm and 140Nm of torque at 5000rpm, enough to sprint to 60mph in 8.7 seconds and achieve a top speed of 115mph. The seemingly endlessly willing engine and such an addictive exhaust note are guaranteed to excite the occupants and a smile on your face is a permanent fixture! The engine bay is clean for bonnet up exhibiting and has had a recent full service including cam-belt. The 5 speed sports gearbox is precise and is a joy to use. WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES Fitted with the desirable GTi alloy sports wheels unmarked with casting marks visible. Branded 175/70 R13 tyres, of which two are still believed to be the factory fitted Michelin items, have excellent tread remaining. The servo-assisted diagonally divided dual-circuit braking system with ventilated discs up front and drums to the rear have been overhauled and do an excellent job of stopping the car. HISTORY FILE Supplied new by Volkswagen Main Dealers, T Hayselden Limited on the 1st August 1981, an original new car sales invoice outlines a purchase price of £6,682.59. Mr Francis Medlam has remained the registered keeper from new and returned to the supplying dealer for servicing eight times until the vehicle had covered 18,331 miles. A subsequent seven service entries at a specialist along with previous MOT certificates warrant the low mileage of 24,790 and reveal the fastidious care bestowed upon this example. A fanatical low mileage car collector and vehicle historian, Mr Preston, took ownership in 2011 and immediately set about perfecting a what would be, a perfect car to most, to meet his exacting standards. Nostalgic seekers will enjoy old tax discs being retained and sight of the first service coupon. The original A5 VW Dealer blue document holder is also with the car containing all owner manuals and instruction pamphlets along with the Scirocco sales brochure from 1981. Two sets of keys with the key number tag are also supplied. MOT Oct 2017, HPI Clear.

Build was inspired by Singer Porsche. We added lots of little Porsche elements that complimented the car including 911 RS style interior door handle pulls. Exterior Porsche 944 door handles then chrome dipped them. The roll cage was hand wrapped and stitched in leather. The 3.2 liter VR6 power plant was swapped from a Porsche Cayenne. The gauge dials were customized with Eurowise design and the tachometer was switched to Red. Seat belts were also color matched to red. Hand made foot rests on driver and passenger side were fitted also inspired from Rennline /Singer look. At Eurowise we specialize in Audi service, BMW service, Mercedes Benz service, Porsche service, Ferrari service, Maserati service, Lamborghini service, and Volkswagen service. Floor pan & inner fender rust repair on my '75 Scirocco
A quick highway-speed line-up between a Mk1 Scirocco (PL 1.8-liter 16V with assorted goodies) and a Mk3 Golf 4-door with an '95 Canadian Corrado VR6 (AAA, Neuspeed P-Flo/Stainless exhaust). The race was supposed to start in 4th gear, but the Scirocco cheated, so you hear me downshift into 3rd and laugh. I mean, um, into second gear. SECOND. No speeding necessary! No sirree Bob. In fact, this was filmed on a private track. No, a German Autobahn with no speed limit. Professional drivers, closed course, don't try this at home, I didn't do it, the check is in the mail.

This is the very last version of Erwin Buck´s VW Scirocco Mk1, debuted on 2019 and biggest dominator this year of the 1600cc Class on the German Berg.Cup Series. It is now tuned by Spiess Motorenbau and is using a totally new engine, specially built for HillClimb Racing named SPG01, developing 250Hp/9.000Rpm with its rev limit at over 9.500Rpm. It is based on a VW block and Head, but many of its parts have been extensively modified to the point where it is barely recognizable from its starting point. This Front Wheel Drive Monster aso benefits from its very low weight of around 730Kg alongside Mr. Buck´s talent and experience behind the steering wheel to be a tremendously fast machine, tbeating much more powerful machinery on it way. Here at Wolsfeld Hillclimb, where the footage is captured, it placed 4th Overall among Touring Cars leaving behind a whole host of 500+Hp AWD Monsters and many of the great 2000cc Class MAchines that make the Berg-Cup the highly competitive series that it is. So sit back and learn how this "little David" was able to beat the high powered "Goliaths" though agility and driving skill...
One of the fastest Vw Scirocco units in Hillclimb racing was the one built and raced by Auer Power Motorsport to tackle the Austrian Hillclimb Championship. Powered by the 2.0 Touring Car engine producing over 200Hp at a very healthy 9.000Rpm, it also had only to move 790Kg, this Front wheel drive Monster has not been used much in the last two years but will probably come back sporadically in the future.

Außerdem tausche ich die vordern gelben Blinke gegen weiße - wie wird es das Erscheinungsbild meines Sciroccos verändern?
