Republic Square in Yerevan hosts the spectacular, and among the many surprises that await you will be the presence of champions from previous Junior Eurovision Song Contests, uniting for the 20th anniversary of the show. The 16 participants of this year's Contest will walk the red carpet and then enter the National Gallery of Armenia, where a random draw will take place for who will sing first and last in the running order. Hosts Armenia will also draw their position. The Opening Ceremony will be hosted by Dalita, who represented Armenia in the 2011 Junior Eurovision Song Contest, broadcaster Hamlet Arakelyan and Aram Mp3, who finished in a respectable 4th place for his home country at the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest. Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan hosted its annual holiday tree lighting ceremony this week in the Republic Square. The 16 participants of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022 lit up the city’s main New Year Tree. Armenia is set to host the 2022 Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Yerevan this weekend. The Armenian Report attended the tree lighting ceremony and asked the attendees what they wish for 2023. Every single person we spoke with all said that they wish for peace in Armenia. From all ages, young and old, Armenians want to live in a peaceful country. This year’s holiday lights have become a controversial topic in Armenia. The historic buildings in Republic Square have been lit up with holidays lights — and experts say the nails holding the lights onto the buildings may cause damage to the almost 100 year old structures that belong to the public. Republic Square (Armenian: Հանրապետության հրապարակ, Hanrapetut′yan hraparak, known locally as Hraparak, "the square") is the central town square in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. It consists of two sections: an oval roundabout and a trapezoid-shaped section which contains a pool with musical fountains. Today in our Prague walking tour 4k, we will walk from the Legion Bridge to the Old Town Square The Legion Bridge is the seventh bridge in Prague on Vltava. It stands on the site of the original chain bridge named after Emperor Francis I. It joins Shooter's Island and the Lesser Quarter. On the initiative of the entrepreneur Vojtěch Lanna, it was built between 1898 - 1901 by the architect and engineer Anthony Balšánek and Jiri Soukup. In 1901 it was opened in the presence of Emperor Franz Joseph I, after whom it was carrying its first name. After World War I, it was given today's name – the Legion Bridge. During World War II, the occupation was renamed again, this time after Bedřich Smetana, in 1960 to the Velvet Revolution, was called the First of May Bridge. The bridge was built in the architectural style of neo Art Nouveau. Its art decoration, such as stone and bronze handrail lighting lampposts, underwent repairs in the years 1981 - 1983 on the occasion of the reconstruction of the National Theatre. On both sides of the bridge, two towers were located to collect tolls in the past. The bridge is 343 meters long and 16 meters wide. It is divided into 8 flat elliptical and 1 round arches. It is surrounded by historical buildings such as the Old Town City Hall with the famous Astronomical Clock, the imposing St. Nicholas Church and Church of Our Lady before Tyn, and many houses and palaces of various architectural styles and colorful history. It has been a center of Prague's Old Town since the middle ages when it was a marketplace crossing European merchants' roads. The first houses were built around the Old Town Square in the 12 and 13 centuries. Some present homes still have Romanesque or Gothic foundations, basements, or ground floors. The Old Town City Hall was built in the 14 century, and the Church of Our Lady before Tyn a little later.
