Scuba Refresher Course Skills Video to help you get back in the water and enjoy Scuba Diving. In this Scuba Refresher Course video, we will cover most scuba skills in detail. It is important that you still refresh your scuba skills with a certified Divemaster or Diving Instructor before going on a scuba dive. This video is to prepare you for a Scuba Refresher Course, it is NOT a replacement for a Live Scuba Refresher Course. To navigate your scuba refresher skills easier you can use these chapter timestamps: 00:00 Equipment setup 06:06 Buddy check 11:26 Giant Stride 12:16 Weight check 13:05 Snorkel to regulator exchange 13:45 5 Point descent 15:18 Regulator recovery 15:47 Mask removal and replacement 16:36 Alternate air source swim and ascent 18:57 Free flowing regulator 20:07 Neutrally buoyant LPI 21:33 Hover orally inflate 23:07 CESA 24:04 No mask swimming 25:30 Weight belt removal underwater 27:04 Scuba unit removal underwater 29:07 Loose cylinder band 30:17 Swim neutrally buoyant 31:44 5 Point ascent 32:35 Weight belt removal surface 33:24 Scuba unit surface 35:26 Disconnect LPI 35:52 Equipment disassembly When should I get my scuba diving certification refreshed or how often to do a scuba refresher are common questions asked. It depends on your scuba diving training organization, what their standards are on how often you should do a scuba diving refresher course. This can be 6 months, 12 months, or even longer after your last scuba dive. In the end, it is about your safety, so why not be safe and do a scuba refresher course often. How much does a scuba refresher course cost? This depends on the location and the Dive shop, but in general, it is between 20 to 100 USD around the world. The scuba refresher course is really valuable. What skills are required for a scuba refresher course? This also depends on your scuba training organization. Some organizations want you to repeat a strict amount of scuba skills during your refresher course while others are less strict and let you choose what scuba skills you would like to practice/repeat during your scuba diving refresher course. In this youtube video do I covered most scuba skills that you might encounter in your scuba refresher course. Should I refresh myself in confined water (swimming pool) or open water? I recommend refreshing yourself first in confined water and if needed ask a Divemaster or Diving Instructor to refresh your scuba skills also in the open water. When you feel comfortable enough you can sign up for a fun dive again or continue your scuba diving education by joining the next course. For example, a lot of people only do the first open water diver course and then might need a scuba refresher course before they join the second advanced open water diver course. Please read it here: 🤍 If you want to be a good or even the best PADI Scuba Diving Instructor or Divemaster then you need to give good and strong Scuba Diving Hand Signals under the water to communicate clearly with your scuba diving students. Differences between good and bad scuba diving hand signals to give as a dive professional: Bad scuba diving hand signals: -Weak/soft hand signals (fun divers and students don't take these scuba signals seriously) -To strong/aggressive scuba diving hand signals (can scare the fun diver or student, diving is supposed to be fun) Good scuba diving hand signals: -Right in between a strong and weak hand signal like shown in this YouTube video -Long enough to be seen -Friendly scuba diving hand signals There are no standards on how a scuba diving hand signal has to be given. That is the reason why you sometimes see slightly different scuba diving signals depending on location and Divemaster, PADI Instructor or Diver. A small difference in a signal, for example "more distance in between divers" might not be that bad, but if a buddy team uses very different scuba diving hand signals for air/gas consumption that can be dangerous. In other words it is very important to always go over the hand signals used on that scuba dive before the scuba dive. Especially with new people or scuba diving students. If you are taking your PADI Divemaster or PADI IDC course then it's important to have realistic scuba diving hand signals. You can have slightly different signals, but it has to come close to what it means. Like for example: PADI Staff won't like it if you start flapping your hands like a bird to introduce that you have 70 bar air/gas left. But they do accept different scuba diving signals for 70 bar as long as they are serious and commonly used. PADI Confined Water Dive 1 Skills in the right order and all PADI Confined Water Dive 1 Skills together in one video. Watching all the skills of this PADI confined water dive 1 video is a great way to prepare yourself for the PADI Open Water Diver Course. We also hope that this video can help you organize the PADI Confined Water Dive 1 Skills easier as a PADI Diving Instructor. One of the biggest concerns I hear from new PADI Scuba Diving Instructors that finish the PADI IDC Course is that they don’t know how to organize a real-life PADI Confined Water Dive. In this video, you find all skills in order according to the PADI standards. Chapters and Timestamps for the PADI Confined Dive 1: 00:00 Intro 00:09 Put on dive equipment using proper technique 01:07 Buddy check scuba diving 05:28 Inflate/Deflate BCD at the surface 06:10 Regulator clearing diving 06:48 Regulator recovery and clearing 07:17 Scuba mask clearing: Partially flooded mask 07:35 Alternate air source use stationary for 30 seconds 09:15 Controlled Descent Shallow to Deep 10:04 How to swim scuba diving 12:20 Air check scuba diving 12:48 PADI 5 Point ascent stela 13:35 Inflate bcd diving at the surface 13:59 Snorkeling scuba diving 14:27 Orally inflate the BCD at the Surface 14:55 Scuba gear disassembly During the PADI Divemaster course, people assist on a PADI Confined Water Dive 1, and then during the PADI IDC Course, people learn how to organize Confined Dive 1 the right way. #padi #scubaskills #cesa Steps to how to perform a Controlled Emergency Swimming Ascent (CESA). We are simulating that you have one breath left and with this one breath you must make it back to the surface. The most important steps to remember is to continuously exhale making a 'zeeeee' sound, and swim in a controlled manner. This skill is performed in confined water which means it is performed whilst swimming horizontally. When you repeat this skill in Open water, you perform the skill swimming up to the surface vertically. This Rescue Diver course video show you one way to master the skills. These are the PADI objectives from the PADI Instructor Manual: Rescue Exercise 2 – Panicked Diver Rescue a panicked (irrational) diver, demonstrating: • Approach and Evaluation • Making Contact • Releases • Approach with a quick reverse to stay out of a panicked diver’s grasp Rescue Exercise 4 – Distressed Diver Underwater 1. Correctly identify and respond to a diver simulating overexertion underwater. 2. Correctly identify and respond to a panicked diver making an uncontrolled ascent. 3. Correctly identify and provide air to, via an alternate air source, a diver simulating an out-of-air emergency, and make a controlled air-sharing ascent. Rescue Exercise 6 – Surfacing the Unresponsive Diver 1. Use controlled positive buoyancy as an aid to ascent. 2. Bring an unresponsive diver to the surface using buoyancy control of either the unresponsive diver or the rescuer. PADI Platinum Course Director Marcel van den Berg shows how to conduct some of the PADI Rescue Diver Course Skills that you can get on your PADI Rescue Diver Course, PADI Divemaster Course, PADI IDC Course and/or PADI Instructor Examination IE. Many PADI IDC candidates struggle with the Rescue Diver Course skills during the IDC and IE for a few reasons: 1. They might have only practiced the rescue skills once in their PADI Rescue Diver Course. 2. Their Rescue Diver Course was taught a long time ago. 3. Their Rescue Diving Instructor didn't teach all the skills (Breaking PADI Standards). 4. The PADI Dive Instructor taught the Rescue Diver Course skills in a very different way. 5. During their PADI Divemaster Course they have not assisted a PADI Rescue Diver Course or maybe only 1 time. PADI Divemaster Skills Circuit and IDC Skills Circuit is one of the biggest challenges in the course. In this video I will show you how to get full scores on your PADI Divemaster Skills Circuit and IDC Skills Circuit. During your PADI Divemaster and Dive Instructor IDC course you need to perform a PADI Dive Skill Workshop (Skill Circuit) demonstrating most of the PADI Open Water Diver skills. You will be scored a between a 1 and a 5, with a 5.0 being the highest score and a 1.0 the lowest. Conduct: Describe for candidates the characteristics of a demonstration quality skill, and explain that the focus is on exaggerating the critical attributes. Demonstrate each skill, and have candidates practice. After practice, have candidates perform each skill for a score. Remediate as necessary until candidates meet the performance requirement. Scoring Criteria: 5.0 Exercise performed correctly, slowly and with exaggerated movement – appeared easy 4.0 Exercise performed correctly and slowly enough to adequately exhibit or illustrate details of skill 3.0 Exercise performed correctly, though too quickly to adequately exhibit or illustrate details of the skill 2.0 Exercise performed with significant difficulty or error 1.0 Candidate unable to perform exercise Note: These criteria are used to score skill evaluations throughout all levels of PADI leadership training: PADI Divemaster, PADI Diving Instructor, PADI IDC Staff Instructor and PADI Course Director. To meet the performance requirements of the Divemaster course PADI standards states that you only have to pass 1 DPADI Divemaster Skills Circuit and IDC Skills Circuit. In our opinion this is not enough to become a successful and good Divemaster. Our mission at Sairee Cottage Diving is to train only Divemasters and Dive Instructors with the highest quality possible. For this reason our Divemaster Candidates complete 3 PADI Dive Skill Workshops (Skill Circuits) during their Divemaster course. We even put the level of quality even higher during the PADI Dive Instructor IDC course as we only pass our IDC candidates with 5.0 full points on all skills. We also want to see during the demonstration a lot of “reminders” of important steps to perform the dive skill well and safe. On top of this we only give a 5.0 if the IDC candidate reminds their recreational students about any time or distance in a particular PADI dive skill. In some cases during the PADI IDC Skills Open Water Presentations you need to repeat the skill after you corrected problems and in some cases, you can let the skill continuo. My tip is when in doubt, just repeat the skill (especially on the PADI IE). I have made a video where I solve problems for the PADI IDC Confined Water Skills.
