How to Deliver and Inspect the Placenta | Merck Manual Professional Version

Learn how to deliver and inspect the placenta: 🤍 Give oxytocin after delivering the baby. Place a basin and clamp the umbilical cord. Gently pull the cord. Once delivered, inspect the cord and the birth canal. Massage the uterus. Look for common abnormalities of cord insertion, including marginal insertion, in which the cord inserts along the placental edge, and velamentous insertion, in which the cord ends before reaching the placenta and some vessels run through the membrane unprotected by Wharton’s jelly. Note the cotyledons. If uncertain, assess the mother for retained products of conception. About the Merck Manuals: First published in 1899 as a small reference book for physicians and pharmacists, The Merck Manual grew in size and scope to become one of the world's most widely used comprehensive medical resources for professionals and consumers. As The Manual evolved, it continually expanded the reach and depth of its offerings to reflect the mission of providing the best medical information to a wide cross-section of users, including medical professionals and students, veterinarians and veterinary students, and consumers. • Merck Manual Professional Version: 🤍 • Facebook for Professionals: 🤍 • Twitter for Professionals: 🤍 Procedure by Kate Leonard, MD, and Will Stone, MD, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology; and Shad Deering, COL, MD, Chair, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Uniformed Services University. Labor and Delivery

OB_A_1042 This animation depicts the sequence of events in a delivery with several complications. A lateral cut-away view of the mother reveals her spine, pubic bones and the infant as delivery begins. We notice a nuchal cord (umbilical cord wrapped around the neck) on the infant. Meconium invades the amniotic fluid, prompting the physician to rupture the membranes, releasing most of the fluid. Maternal contractions fail to expel the infant. The process of fetal circulation is described. An enlargement of a segment of normal umbilical cord is compared to a segment of compressed umbilical cord to show the restriction of blood flow in the latter. The infant inhales some of the meconium stained fluid. A vacuum is applied to the head and suprapubic pressure is applied in an attempt at delivery, but the shoulder gets caught on the mother's pubic bones. The nuchal cord is freed from the infant's head. The shoulder is dislodged and the infant is delivered. Labor and Delivery Nurse Salary | How to Become a Labor & Delivery Nurse

Labor & delivery nurses tend to love their jobs. These nurses assist with the entire delivery process. They monitor fetal heart tones, administer medication, check dilation, insert Foley catheters, and much more. Labor and delivery nursing is truly one of the most popular areas in nursing. Nurses in this specialty rarely leave, which creates high demand for this position. RNs (and sometimes LPNs) who work in the labor and delivery areas get to enjoy the blessing of welcoming newborn babies into the world. This is a different specialty as compared to neonatal nursing (we have a video on that as well). More Nursing Specialty Videos: 🤍 See more about salary information below: 🤍 🤍

OUR BIRTH VLOG! Unexpected early labor at 37 weeks *POSITIVE BIRTH EXPERIENCE*

My positive birth story vlog is here! I can’t tell you how wild it is to watch this back now that I'm almost 4 months postpartum. It really feels like this birth experience was a lifetime ago. I’ve been asked a lot about our birth story and what it was like for a first-time mom to give birth to her baby boy at 37 weeks! SO, without further ado, here is our labor and delivery storytime vlog! This was a hospital birth. CHAPTERS: 00:00-00:30 - intro 00:31-03:33 - losing mucus plug 03:34-05:36 - 3.5 months postpartum 05:37-10:57 - laboring at home 10:58-12:55 - going to the hospital 12:56-17:54 - in triage 17:55-20:07 - getting an epidural 20:08-25:59 - water breaking and labor pushing experience 26:00-27:13 - golden hour with baby This was definitely an unexpected early labor, but overall it was such a positive birth experience. Even the actual pushing was a positive labor experience for me! While I didn’t film too much of the real birth at the hospital (the hospital I delivered at didn't allow cameras in the delivery room), I wanted to be able to use this birth story video as a memory for me to look back on in the future. I wanted to be sure to either write or record everything I remembered about giving birth for the first time. The turth is, as soon as it's over, you really forget about the pain of giving birth. I even remember saying to Michael: "I'm never doing this again!" as I was having contractions...but then shortly after getting an epidural, I said: "I could do this again!" My epidural experience was amazing, as well, as you can see :) The human body is truly miraculous. I am so proud of my body for all it did to bring my baby boy earth-side! I'd love to hear about your birth experiences down below! Subscribe to my channel: 🤍 INSTAGRAM: 🤍 TWITTER: 🤍 FACEBOOK: 🤍 SNAPCHAT: LucieFink TikTok: 🤍luciebfink Thank you so much for watching! Stages of Labor Nursing OB for Nursing Students | Stages of Labour NCLEX Explained Video Lecture

Stages of labor nursing OB review for nursing students who are studying for the NCLEX exam and maternity nursing lecture exams. This lecture explains the various stages of labour. There are four stages of labor and they include Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3, and Stage 4. In nursing school, you must know that the Stage 1 of Labor has three phases. These phases are the Latent (early labor), Active, and Transition phases. Stage 1 of labor will be where the cervix will dilate (open) from 0 to 10 cm and will have hundred percent effacement (thinning). During the Latent phase of Stage 1, the cervix will dilate 1-4 cm, contractions will occur every 5 to 30 minutes and be 30-45 seconds in length. During the active phase of stage 1, the cervix will dilate to 4 to 7 cm and thin (dilation will be 1 cm per hour), and contractions will be noticeably stronger and longer (45 to 60 seconds) every 3 to 5 minutes. The next phase, which is the transition phase, will be the shortest but most intense in regards to the strength and duration of contractions. During the transition phase, the cervix dilates from 8 to 10 cm and thins completely. This phase will lead to Stage 2 of Labor. Stage 2 of labor begins when the cervix has fully dilated and ends when the baby is fully delivered. Stage 3 of labor begins when the baby is fully delivered and ends when the placenta is delivered. Stage 4 of Labor is the first 1-4 hours after the delivery of the placenta and is the time when the mother is at most risk for hemorrhage, infection, and other problems.
