The circuit for half-bridge SMPS (as discussed in the video) It consists of an uncontrolled rectifier, two capacitors C1, C2, two power MOSFETs M1 & M2, one transformer with center-taped secondary side, the capacitors C1 & C2 have equal capacitance, therefore voltage across each is half of the source voltage . When M1 turned on, voltage of C1 appears across transformer primary thus voltage induced in secondary is VS/2,N1.N2 diode D1 is forward biased. When M2 is turned on, a reverse voltage of C2 appears across transformer primary, voltage induced in secondary winding is -VS/2.N1.N2, therefore diode D2 gets forward biased. Hello guys KD here. Today i have made a very powerful smps with very popular ic SG3525. i have used a mosfet driver ic IR2110. The smps has feedback system so you can also adjust the output voltage according to your requirement. I have used a current transformer (CT) for short circuit protection. The sensitivity can also be changed with a variable resistor. I have used 10N60 mosfet which can easily give a output power of around 400W. It also has a auxiliary power supply so you can also add a external 12v fan to it. I have used EE42 ferrite transformer which can easily handle this much power. how to find capacitor value for Series Coupling Capacitor Calculation in Half Bridge Push Pull SMPS Circuit Design . i explained the calculation and its practical testing with oscilloscope. #series #coupling #capacitor series coupling capacitor in any half bridge switch mode power supply either it is a switch mode power supply or it is a inverter welding machine or computer ATX power supplies , is placed in series with the power transformer's primary winding where it is used to maintain the balance of the volts-second integral between the switching devices or MOSFET transistors. the dc rail voltage are applied to 2 polarized capacitors, which are used to divide the dc rail voltage, and the common point of the both capacitor is used a virtual ground for this half bridge topology. The unbalance in the volts-second integral is caused by the inevitable asymmetry found in the switching devices e.g. unequal storage times and saturation voltages. The capacitor senses the volts-second unbalance and converts it to a proportional shift in OC level, resetting the volts-second unbalance, thus preventing flux walking, which will eventually result into core saturation and the possible destruction of the switching devices. in this video i discussed Full Bridge / H-Bridge Isolated Topology SMPS Circuit reference Design Full-Bridge Converter A full-bridge converter is a transformer-isolated buck converter. The basic schematics and switching waveforms are shown in Figure 27. Since the shape of the converter looks like an H, a full-bridge converter is also known as an H-bridge converter. A full-bridge converter is a transformer-isolated buck converter. The basic schematics and switching waveforms are shown in Figure 27. Since the shape of the converter looks like an H, a full-bridge converter is also known as an H-bridge converter. voltage stress of the switch is twice the input voltage. This condition renders both topologies unfeasible for high power 500 watt applications. A full-bridge converter configuration retains the voltage properties of the half-bridge topology, and the current properties of push-pull topology. The diagonal switch pairs, Q1 Q2 and Q3 Q4, are switched alternately at the selected switching period. In the steady state of operation when the diagonal switch pair, Q1 Q2, is ON for a period of TON, the dot end of the winding becomes positive with respect to the non-dot end. The diode D4 become reverse-biased and diode D3 becomes forward-biased. The diode D3 carries the full load current through the secondary winding NS1. As the input voltage is applied across the transformer primary, the switch carries the reflected load current, plus the transformer primary magnetizing current. The flux density in the core changes from its initial value of B1 to B2, as shown in Figure 13. The basic schematics and switching waveforms are shown in Figure 27. Since the shape of the converter looks like an H, a full-bridge converter is also known as an H-bridge converter. This condition renders both topologies unfeasible for high power 500 watt applications. A full-bridge converter configuration retains the voltage properties of the half-bridge topology, and the current properties of push-pull topology. The diagonal switch pairs, Q1 Q2 and Q3 Q4, are switched alternately at the selected switching period. In the steady state of operation when the diagonal switch pair, Q1 Q2, is ON for a period of TON, the dot end of the winding becomes positive with respect to the non-dot end. The diode D4 become reverse-biased and diode D3 becomes forward-biased. The diode D3 carries the full load current through the secondary winding NS1. As the input voltage is applied across the transformer primary, the switch carries the reflected load current, plus the transformer primary magnetizing current. The flux density in the core changes from its initial value of B1 to B2, as shown in Figure 13.
