Thanks for watching. TRANSCRIPT Hi there, I’m going to show you one of the most popular ways to tie a tie – using the Windsor knot – also known as the Double Windsor or the Full Windsor. Start with your collar up and the tie around your neck. If you are right handed, hold the wide end of the tie in your right hand and the narrow end of the tie in your left hand. Now, it is important to remember that the longer you make the wide end, the lower the tie will hang when you are finished. Basically, you want to line up your tie like this. If you remember this, you will save yourself a lot of time later on. Now cross each end over – wide end over the top – and leave about this much on the narrow end. That is about four inches or ten centimetres. With your left hand, take the wide end of the tie. Thread it through the back of this opening from behind. Thread it all the way through, like this. Now take the wide end of the tie, and with your left hand, wrap it all the way around the back like this. Switch hands. Notice here how the back of the tie is facing outward. Taking the wide end, now, in your right hand, thread it through the front of this opening. Alright! The hardest part is now done; the rest is easy! What you can see here is the inside of your knot. It should look a bit like a triangle. Put your left index finger on the knot, like this, and keep it there. With your other hand, wrap the wide end around the knot, from right to left – and then grab it from behind. Keep your index finger where it is. With your right hand, push the wide end through this opening again – from the back. Alright, here comes the punch-line! Your index finger has created a little tunnel. What you need to do now is thread the tie down through the tunnel. The last step now is to adjust and tighten it – alternating between the long end and the short end of the tie – gradually pulling the knot up – shaping it as you go – until the tie is just how you want it to be – a sharp, symmetrical, triangular knot. Pull your collar down – and bingo! – a full Windsor knot. Thank you for watching. I hope you found this helpful. Music: Strut Funk by Dougie Wood (Source: YouTube Audio Library)

Hello. I'm Charles from Louis Purple, and today I'm going to teach you how to tie a Windsor knot. The Windsor knot is actually a very simple knot to tie, and it's very useful because it projects confidence. So it's a wide, triangular knot that's very suitable for presentations, job interviews, or cultural appearances, which I hope you don't frequent too often. So this is how you start. You just find the right balance depending on the length of your tie, with the wide end on the right hand side and the narrow end on the left. You might want to adjust exactly where the center of the tie should be at in the middle of your neck. So this is how you start. You cross over the wide end over the narrow end. You bring the wide end through the loop between the collar and the tie. And you bring the wide end back down. Then you just pull the wide end underneath, and then bring it up through the loop again in order to have a symmetrical shape, which should look like this. And you're almost done. There's only the easy part left and the most rewarding. Pull the wide end in front. Bring the wide end underneath, and then slide it inside the loop and tie it in the knot. You draw the knot up in order to fit your collar. So it's a knot that's really suitable for widespread collars. And as I said, then you can just adjust and tighten how big of a knot you like to obtain. This is how you tie a Windsor knot.

PLEASE READ: Keep this in mind when choosing what knot to use for your tie... The Full Windsor creates a large knot. It is meant to be executed using a tie with THIN fabric. The tie I'm using has thick fabric, as you can see the end result is far bulkier than desired. This video is strictly to show the steps in how to tie a full Windsor knot. Please see my Half Windsor video for ties with thicker fabric, as that would be the preferred method. Half Windsor Tutorial: 🤍

This is the only video on youtube that also discusses the importance of the tie for this knot, including lengths and thickness because not all ties are suited for the Windsor Knot. Many confuse this knot with the Half-Windsor , but here you learn how to tie the Double Windsor a.k.a. Full Windsor. Also, learn the DO's & DON'Ts, what ties to use, which ones not to use + what shirt collar to wear with a Windsor knot and when not to wear it. 00:12 History of the Windsor knot 01:57 Requirements for tying a Windsor knot 02:25 Step by Step guide on how to tie the perfect Windsor knot 04:21 What happens on a Windsor knot when you use a thick tie 05:20 Tie lengths to fit your height So as you can see, the Duke of Windsor created the size of the tie knot with the interlining and with the fabrics he used, not with the knot. This is just another proof that it's not just the knot, it's the tie, the silk, the interlining and it all plays together in the size and the look of the knot. That being said, In terms of size the Windsor knot is one of the biggest tie knots out there at the same time, it's also very popular but what's important to understand is that in order to tie a Windsor knot, you should A. get a tie that's longer B. it should be thinner simply because it's such a big knot. So here, you see me wearing a very thin madder silk tie by Fort Belvedere with paisleys and the knot is still rather big. I think it's very popular because of its symmetry although personally, I'm a huge fan of it. Nevertheless, here is how you tie it. You want the slim end on your right and the wide end on your left. The slim end should be about a hand and a half above the waistband. If you have a shorter tie, it needs to come up much further. So you'll have to experiment with it and see what works. Wide end goes from left to the right, up here and pinch it and take the bottom end, come through here and pull it through. And then you go to your left side, now's the chance and move the long wide part around the right side, come up and go through the hole in the back and pull it down. So what's happening here is you can see you have two knots, one, two. You pull it a little tight and bring the wide end to the left side and again up, pull it up and you see the knot forms. Like usual, bring the wide end through the knot, gently pull and if you want a dimple, you can pinch on top. pull it gently through. If you like the look, pull it up and adjust. As you can see, this knot is very symmetrical and it's very wide, forms this triangular shape and that's why you want a wide cutaway spread collar to accommodate this knot with a classic or medium spread collars, you run into troubles because the collar is going to cover the edges which looks not very advantageous. You're much better off with a four in hand knot or a kelvin or a Pratt knot rather than the full Windsor knot. Now, what happens if you use a thick tie? I'll show you. Here, I have a longer wool blend tie from Fort Belvedere with red herringbone. I'm going to do the same thing, I'll tie the Windsor knot. Now this is what the Windsor knot looks like with a thick tie, it basically eats my face. Personally, I don't like that look. If you like it, go for it but always bear in mind, full Windsor knots look better with a slim long tie. Oftentimes, I see shorter men wear a Windsor knot because the only way for them to get their long ties to the right length is to choose a bigger knot however, that looks awkward because they have smaller heads and big knots which just looks overwhelmingly wrong. Therefore, I created ties in three different sizes. Some for short men, some for normal men and some for tall men so everybody can wear the right tie knot and tie size that works best for their personality and the face rather than having to come up with a gigantic knot so you achieve the right length. So, if you're a shorter man or taller or normal guy in terms of height, check out our shop and we have specific ties at specific lengths so you look your best.

The How To Series by OTAA #OTAAhowto The Windsor Knot is one of the most globally recognised knots known to man because of its grande, royal knot shape. If you want to make a beastly statement in the office, this Windsor Knot is the best way to do it! Also commonly referred to as the Full Windsor or the Double Windsor, the Windsor Knot is aptly named after the Duke of Windsor who liked to wear a wide knot on his ties. This grand knot offers a robust triangle shape at the top of your tie that will give your suits a confident perspective. This guide to tying the Full Windsor Knot step by step will show you how to tie it to Duke of Windsor standards. Although the Full Windsor contains more steps than some other knots, it's actually one of the easiest knots to perfect. It uses up a bit of extra length of so it's perfect for long ties that need shortening. This sturdy knot was surprisingly not actually worn by the Duke of Windsor. It was invented by the general public of England who wanted to imitate the Duke's robust knot size without needing special, thick fabrics. By its history alone, the Double Windsor Knot has regal affiliations and it's known to be one of the most noble tie knots you can wear. Once you've finished the Windsor Knot with this easy-to-follow tutorial, see if you can graduate to some of our more difficult knots.
