Brockport's EuroSim Club travels to Belgium for the annual European Union simulation conference.
After successfully hosting the 31st edition of EuroSim – a Model European Union that brings together around 200 students from the US and the EU to simulate the legislative process of the European Union – the IES participated with its own delegation of students for the US edition that was hosted at the St. John Fisher College in Rochester, New York between 28 – 31 March 2019. Selected across all three programmes, the Institute’s delegation negotiated together with peers from 20 different universities and colleges the EU’s next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF). From their respective alter egos they held on to the positions of Heads of Government, ministers or MEPs in a four-day negotiation marathon at the end of which a compromise could be successfully achieved. The EuroSim conference completes the exhaustive theoretical education the IES is delivering through the LLM, MSc and PGC programmes by adding a sought-after practical dimension of active and experiential learning where students have the opportunity to solve problems and be confronted with real-life scenarios. Through its transatlantic nature, the event adds an important cultural and social component as well, with long-term impact and benefits for students on both sides of the Atlantic.

The Widener delegation to EuroSim 2014 is raising money in order to attend EuroSim 2014 at the University of Twente in the Netherlands. We are proud to have been chosen to play the European Commission and to write the Commission proposal on this year's topic of minimum wage/social policy. In order to participate, we need to raise $30,000 to cover travel and lodging expenses. Widener University has been participating in this international program since 2003. this year we have one of the largest and most qualified delegations to represent Widener. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for college students to become leaders and experience governing processes, negotiations, and communication in a real world setting. Students will argue, debate, sway opinions, and vote as if they were actual members of the EU a hands on learning experience that students cannot achieve in a classroom setting. The opportunity for students to make international connections is invaluable. Meeting other students from across Europe and the United States broadens horizons and exposes students to a variety of cultures and people. The skills required to participate in EuroSim will benefit students throughout their future endeavors.
