I've been wanting to do this video for awhile anyway, so what better time than to do it for Chinese New Year, the year of the Tiger for 2022. I'm going to show you places where you can get mapo tofu, dumplings, lamb, handmade noodles, pecking duck, pork belly, and a little surprise that not even I was expecting. And yes, most of these are in Chinatown. Hope you enjoy!

🎥Chinese Street Food in Kunming: 🤍 👕T-shirts and caps: 🤍 Big thanks to Jordan and Anita from Chengdu Food Tours: 🤍 PART 1: Ultimate Chinese Street Food Tour of Chengdu, Sichuan, China! This is Part 1 of an epic 14 hour day of eating as much Sichuan Chinese food as possible in a single day - this is only half of the food, be sure to watch Part 2 as well! #ChineseFood #streetfood #Sichuan Again, a big thank you to Jordan and Anita from Chengdu Food Tours (🤍 for taking me around Chengdu for this unbelievable food tour. Sichuan is one of the greatest cuisines of China, and the world, known for numbing Sichuan peppercorn, chili oil, layers of fermented and pickled ingredients, and huge amounts of flavor. I was very excited to go on an ultimate Sichuan Chinese street food tour to learn more about this fascinating cuisine. Here’s the main food and restaurants we ate at in this video: ShiEr Qiao Baozi - One of the most common things to eat for breakfast in China is baozi, and this corner little restaurant is extremely popular and their family favorite spot for baozi in Chengdu. The minced pork version, which is their main one, is probably the best baozi I’ve ever had. The meat filling was delicious, but really it was the bread, the dough that stood out. Total price - 24 RMB ($3.38) Duck Blood Snack - One our way to the market, we had another Sichuan street food classic, coagulated duck blood drenched in chili oil. Delicious. Total price - 7 RMB ($0.98) Wang Ma Roast Rabbit - One of the most popular Sichuan Chinese street food snacks is roasted rabbit, shredded and loaded with chili oil, Sichuan peppercorn, and chili oil. What an ultra tasty snack. Half rabbit - 33 RMB ($4.65) Market - The market is vibrant and full of action and energy, and a perfect place to get a feel for the fresh ingredients used in Sichuan food cooking. The highlight for me was tasting fresh Sichuan peppercorn, both green and red versions, which were so pungent it was almost hard to breath from chewing on a few. Luckily, sugar reduces the effect of Sichuan peppercorn, and so we ate a persimmon. What a food experience! Noodles - One of the most well known of all Sichuan Chinese street food dishes are chili noodles, and so Anita brought us to one of her favorite spots. The noodles were cooked perfectly, then tossed in chili oil and herbs, with extra pork meat. They were unbelievably tasty. Price - 12 RMB ($1.69) per bowl Sifang Dumpling Shop - Finally, for the last morning snack before lunch, we ate some Sichuan dumplings, again, one of the most eat street foods of Chengdu. The dumplings were boiled, then seasoned with chili oil, garlic, and sesame seeds. Total price - 35 RMB ($4.93) Again, this is only Part 1 of this incredible 14-hour Chinese street food tour of Chengdu. Keep watching Part 2 to see all the rest of the food! Masterchef John Zhang and Chen Yichun share Top 5 mesmerizing recipes for celebrating Chinese New Year with step by step instruction. #top5 #chinesefood #newyear 0:18 Braised Pork Hock 走油蹄膀 By Chef John 3:39 Garlic Shrimp 蒜蓉蒸蝦 By Chef John 5:31 Dry Braised Fish 乾燒魚 By Chef Chef Yichun 10:18 Eight-Treasure Duck 八寶鴨 By Chef John 14:19 Eight-Treasure Rice 八寶飯 By Chef John Dish 1: Braised Pork Hock Clothed in glossy and savory brown sauce, this pork is so tender that it’s almost falling off the bone. Rich and comforting, its flavor is unbeatable. Get the recipe: 🤍 Dish 2: Garlic Shrimp Garlic shrimp with thinly sliced fries is a classy dish that satisfies your cravings for comfort food. the pungent, savory garlic flavor harmonizes with the light, sweet taste of the shrimp. sprinkled with diced pepper, this is a flurry of colors that are not only elegant but also delectable. Get the recipe: 🤍 Dish 3: Dry Braised Fish In Chinese culture, whole fish symbolize abundance. Hence it's usually one of the center pieces you'll see during Chinese New Year feast. Dry-braising is a peculiarly Sichuanese version of a cooking method used all over China. All braised dishes are first heated over a high flame and then left to simmer gently in a stock-based sauce. With dry braising, however, the sauce is left to reduce naturally, until all the seasonings have been absorbed by the main ingredients or cling to them in a delicious sticky coating. Get the recipe: 🤍 Dish 4: Eight Treasure Duck It's irresistible! Every bite of duck meat is flavorful and juicy. It's a traditional Chinese food from Huaiyang cuisine, that's first marinated, fried, braised, stuffed with 8 different ingredients (hence, the name of the dish "8 treasures duck") before it's steamed till tender and fall-off-the-bone. This dish is equally famous as peking duck in China. However, it seriously is one of those "endangered dishes" that's slowly growing extinct. Cooking it does take time and patient. But, it's worth it. Get the recipe: 🤍 Dish 5: Eight-Treasure Rice Eight-Treasure Rice(八寶飯) is a traditional dessert served during Chinese New Year celebration and festival banquets. The number eight is a magic number for Chinese people. In Chinese, the number eight sounds like another Chinese word “fa 發 “. In Chinese, it means rich or to thrive in business. Also, because this dessert is really colorful and pretty, it represents luck and sweetness for the new year. The name “Eight Treasure’ comes from the “eight” key ingredients that this delicious dessert has. The dish is common made from glutinous rice and a combination of with eight fruits that, according to Chinese medicine, are meant to provide therapeutic effect. The commonly used treasures are: dried red dates, lotus seeds, candied plums, sweetened winter melon, dried longan, red bean paste, assorted beans, assorted nuts, and etc. Get the recipe: 🤍 - Subscribe our YouTube channel for more easy and tasty recipes: 🤍 Looking for Chinese pork recipes? 来到广东台山少不了吃海鲜，最出名的就是台山生蚝，因为咸淡水交汇，很适合生蚝生长，蚝肉饱满爽口，当地的名菜就是胡椒水浸生蚝。还有本地带膏的青蟹，红色斑节虾，味道都很鲜甜。在海鲜市场挑选好可以就地加工，码头旁边加工店里的腊味煲仔饭更是一份惊喜。 When you come to Taishan, Guangdong, you must eat seafood. The most famous one is Taishan oysters. Because the salty and fresh water meet, it is very suitable for the growth of oysters. The oyster meat is plump and refreshing. The local famous dish is oysters soaked in pepper. There are also local blue crabs with cream and red spotted prawns, which taste very sweet. You can cook on the spot if you choose it in the seafood market, and the bacon claypot rice in the restaurant next to the pier is a surprise.
As you know, we almost rarely cook on weekdays because of work. Usually we just dabao (get takeout) from the coffeeshops near our place and one of our favourite choices of dinner is economy rice or more fondly referred to as Cai Png in Hokkien. In case you didn't know what an Economy rice stall sells, think Panda Express the stall pre-cooked a good variety of dishes and customers can select any of these dishes to go with white rice. This sticky honey pork dish was inspired by one of the cai png stalls Roland usually patrons. They cooked this dish so well that I had to get Roland to cook it at home too. 🔪 BROWSE MY KITCHENWARE - 🤍 ❤️ SUPPORT THE CHANNEL - 🤍 🥢 PRINTABLE RECIPE - 🤍 This is a perfect recipe for when you come home from work and you got hungry kids to feed. Everything can be ready within 20 minutes. Better and faster than take out. You can also take it to work as lunch because it reheats in the microwave really well. The flavor if impeccable, it is nutty, savory. The chicken is tender and soft. The noodles are very filling but well balanced with the veggies. INGREDIENTS 1 lb of fresh egg noodles 12 oz (340 grams) of chicken breast 1/3 tsp of salt 1/3 tsp of baking soda 1/2 tbsp of Chinese cooking wine (Amazon Link - 🤍 Black pepper to taste 3 cloves of garlic, sliced thinly 1/2 inch of ginger, julienne 4 oz of carrot, julienne 1/2 of a red bell pepper, julienne 3 mushroom, sliced thinly 4 oz of snap peas To Make The Sauce 1.5 tbsp of Soy sauce (Amazon Link - 🤍 1 tbsp of dark soy sauce (Amazon Link - 🤍 1 tbsp of oyster sauce (Amazon Link - 🤍 1 tbsp Hoisin sauce (Amazon Link - 🤍 1 tbsp of Chinese cooking wine (Amazon Link - 🤍 1/2 tbsp of pure Peanut butter (Amazon Link - 🤍 1/2 cup of water INSTRUCTIONS Slice the chicken breast thinly. Marinade with garlic, ginger, salt, Chinese cooking wine, black pepper, and baking soda. Baking soda will break down the meat fibers and tenderize the chicken. It will give you that melt in your mouth texture. Julienne the carrot, bell pepper. Slice the mushroom. Cut the scallions. To save time, you can buy a bag of pre-cut, mixed vegetables from the supermarket. In a sauce bowl, combine all the sauce ingredients thoroughly. The peanut butter makes the sauce creamier and thicker, helps the flavor to wrap around the ingredients. You have to break up the peanut butter a little bit first so it doesn't clump up. Bring a pot of water to a boil and cook the noodles until 80% done. Drain completely. Do not over cooked the noodles otherwise they will turn soggy when you finish them in the wok with that lomein sauce. Meanwhile, turn the heat to high and heat your wok until smoking hot. Toss in the marinade chicken and stir for 2 minutes or until it just changes color. Add all the vegetables except for the scallions. continue to stir for 1 minute. Add the well-drained noodles along with the lomein sauce. Keep stirring over medium heat until all the sauce is absorbed. As soon as the sauce is gone, you have to turn off the heat. Otherwise the noodles will start sticking to the wok. Add the scallions and serve. Videography / Editing by Austin Schargorodski - 🤍

Want to learn Chinese or any other language from my own courses? Check out: 🤍 The other day I went into a bunch of typical American Chinese takeout restaurants as an ordinary but kinda clueless white guy and ordered food in fluent Chinese (Mandarin, Cantonese, and Fuzhounese). Most American Chinese takeout restaurants like this are run by people from China’s Fujian province, so it was fun for them to hear me speak their native but fairly rare language of Fuzhounese! It was a really fun prank and social experiment to see Chinese people’s reactions — both the waiters and the other patrons in these NYC Chinatown restaurants were totally shocked!
