This is one of the coldest nights I have ever camped alone in the wilderness. -41 is absolutely freezing and dangerous. But I am well prepared and sheltered from the extreme cold in my canvas tent. I have lots of wood for my wood stove. I have many players of clothes, food, tea, and a -40 sleeping bag. I can feel the air hit my lungs when it is this cold. It almost takes my breath away. But there is something I absolutely love about breathing that bitter cold. On this night an extreme cold warning sets in, making it magical. I am in the remote wilderness and there is no one near me for miles around. But I have a first ad kit, and a way to contact home in case anything goes wrong. Come with me for the adventure, and stay for the extreme cold.

On this trip I tested my winter camping skills once again. I packed out minimal gear, built a natural shelter, and slept next to a long fire with only a foam sleep pad and one wool blanket. It was a lot of fun and I had a great time. I stayed plenty warm despite the temperature getting down to -26°C (-15°F). I have figured out a way to make a very effective long fire and I will make a video on this method in the near future. Cooking in these extreme cold temperatures can be tricky. I try to bring out food that won't freeze which is exactly what I did on this trip. I still had a delicious supper that filled my belly and was simple to make. Thank you to everyone who watches. If you feel like supporting the channel be sure to hit the thumbs up button. EXTRA INFO: Are there wild animals in this area? Yes. There's a variety of big game (moose, deer, grizzly bears, black bears, cougars, wolves) in this area. They tend to avoid humans for the most part though and don't pose much of a threat. I do carry a form of protection just in case. What clothes am I wearing? Upper body: cotton base layer, wool insulating layer, waxed cotton jacket (outer layer). Lower body: cotton base layer, polyester insulating layer (I would like to have wool pants for insulation, but they are very expensive to buy.. I will likely make my own in the future), waxed cotton pants (outer layer). How can I sleep in these cold temperatures? My fire is the reason I stay warm. I build it to put off a lot of heat and I stoke it throughout the night (every 2-3 hours) so that I'm always getting heat. My wool blanket absorbs the heat from the fire and it feels like I'm sleeping under a heated blanket. It is very comfortable to sleep this way, as long as you don't mind waking up every few hours to put wood on the fire. Gear that I use: Backpack - Kelty Redwing 44 - It's an ok pack. Comfortable enough to carry but it has a lot of flaws in it's design. I use it because it's all I have. One day I will replace it I'm sure. Hatchet - This was an $8 antique store find. I put a new handle on it and it has been my go to for a couple years now. No makers mark on it so I'm not sure what brand it is but it holds an edge very well. Knife - Mora Carbon Steel - Mine has a custom wood handle I put on it. It's a great blade and works excellent for carving/crafting. It's inexpensive and is great quality. One of my best knives. Saw - Bahco 21" Peg Tooth Blade - The wood frame I made myself. the blade is decent quality. Works quite well. Boots - Sorel Pac Boots (I think) - I don't know if the specific model I have is still available. But they're Sorel brand. Not the best boots. I have to wear thick wool socks to keep my feet warm and sometimes they still get cold. Once again though they're all I have so it's what I use. Wool Blanket - Queen size 100% wool blanket - I received it as a gift and I believe it was bought second hand. No label or anything on it. Sleep Mat - Cheapo foam sleep pad found in any camping store - It's just the typical foam sleep pad that most camping stores carry. Inexpensive but the warmest sleep pad I've used. Bulkier than an inflatable one but a fraction of the cost and warmer. If you have any other questions or comments please let me know in the comments section down below.
In this video, Tayson ultralight backpacks in the forests around Brian Head, UT to survive the night in the fridged temperatures. At 41° below freezing (-9° Fahrenheit/-22° Celsius - for those confused, water "freezing" is 32° Fahrenheit) the adventure proves to be an intense one, with freezing wind that affects Tayson's mental clarity and camera equipment. Once his hot tent is set up, Tayson shows you what kind of food he's brought with him to camp, and proceeds to finally thaw out. It turns out that camping in the snow, up in the mountains, in the freezing temperatures, can be a bit of a challenge, but with the right backpacking gear, getting comfortable in temperatures like the ones experienced by Tayson is more than possible. Enjoy this beard-freezing outing of Tayson's solo hot tent camping experience in the middle of winter. Cold weather offers the best camping! On this trip I tested my skills seeing if I could sleep in an open shelter in -30 degree temperatures. Alongside the challenge of sleeping in such cold conditions, I also cooked up some tasty meals that are quick and easy to prepare. The gear I used: Sleep mat: 1/2" closed-cell foam sleep pad. Blankets: Two queen sized wool blankets. Clothing: Cotton base layer, wool insulating layer, and waxed cotton pants and jacket outer layer. Boots: Sorel Pac Boots Backpack: Kelty Redwing 44 Cook Kit: Woods Nootka Cook Set How did I not freeze? This was actually one of the warmest camps I've ever had. I didn't get cold once. I layed wood on my fire in a particular way to create a "wall" of fire which kept me very warm. It was so warm I had to strip down to my base layer to sleep comfortably. An open shelter? Aren't you afraid of animals? The open shelter is very pleasant to sleep in. I do not worry about wildlife. In this area there are grizzly bears, black bears, wolves, and cougars. The bears are sleeping the winter away, so they aren't likely to be a problem. Wolves and cougars in this area are quite timid towards humans and usually won't bother us. Fun fact though, on my hike out from this camp I came across fresh tracks from a pack of wolves about 200 yards away from my camp. It looked like they were just travelling through the area though. Pretty cool to see. Thank you so much to everyone who watches and supports the channel. I hope everyone enjoys. Happy trails!

I spent 2 days in a freezing cold environment in the northern mountains camping in a Decathlon Forclaz Trekking 3 Seasons Freestanding 2-Person 2 tent. Baking Ribs and Bread. The bread was not what I imagined, but it was edible. The roasted ribs were very tasty. Difficult conditions to start a fire and keep it warm. Of the new gear I have is a new sleeping bag from Biigloo and a new Chest Pack from Bastion Gear. The new sleeping bag is very warm and spacious. The outer part of the bag is also waterproof. I went to my off grid cabin despite the extreme cold weather.Hakf the chore is getting out there. Everything is more difficult and exhausting in these frigid conditions. I only have a few free days to visit my cabin before I go back to work and we just happen to be in a cold snap. I brought the last of my supplies on a Homemade sled and began to cut firewood. In these extreme conditions firewood is a must. I made a few improvements to my cabin such as hanging curtains over the door to keep the draft out. I also cooked a delicious dinner, played free cell, read my book and smoked a pipe with a whiskey drink. I always feed my chickadee friends and leave a bit of leftovers for the rest of the forest creatures.
I pulled out the old Otter Vortex insulated ice fishing tent and my big buddy heater and braved the cold for a night of camping. I was hoping to test it out in -40, but it only got down to -38. Cabbage rolls and cabbage roll soup for dinner and we had lots of camping beers to try and keep us psychologically warm.
2 nights out in the woods and some seriously difficult snowshoeing and cold weather in Ontario, Canada. The first-day temp was around -12C and dropped to -20C overnight, by far the coldest I have ever experienced sleeping outside. My tarp shelter worked against me this night, an experience I will never forget. The second night stayed around -9C through the night with light snow so I went without my tarp, a beautiful relaxed evening beneath the stars. The trees I cut down are all dead, trees that die and remain standing dry out and prevent rain and moisture from saturating the wood so it makes great firewood. Live trees contain a lot of moisture and don't burn, I also love trees and I don't cut down live trees If you are alone who's filming? I film everything myself from a tripod and yes I do walk back to get the camera when I film myself walking away from the camera. it's pretty straightforward, it just takes time. Two Unedited Clips from the video - 🤍 Are you scared of wild animals? Bears are Hibernating over winter and wolves aren't an issue in this area, so no -20C wheres your jacket? The first-day temp was around -12C and dropped to -20C overnight. Pulling the sled sawing/chopping wood and working hard creates a lot of sweat. If I sweat it will eventually freeze which is bad news so when I'm working I wear a long sleeve a small sweater than a big wool sweater which is on the cooler side but prevents sweating and is perfect for the conditions. Spoon? Why not Chopsticks? I ate oatmeal, soup and rice not shown in the video, the sausage spoon thing was a joke :p Yes, chopsticks would work better and are easier for sausage, and yes I am proficient with chopsticks :p What's with the Poo? It was some animal Scat I found, I was curious and I didn't recognize it, was hoping someone would point out what animal it was. Its likely Fox scat
A beautiful and relaxing lil solo tent camp on a hill in the woods, with temperatures dropping just below freezing and a sparkly frost in the morning 😍 I tried out my new lightweight titanium pan, new lantern (to replace the previous one which set itself on fire) and had a go with a trail cam for the first time in the woods :D Have an amazing Easter weekend & see you soon for a bushcraft tarp camp in a fallen tree! Last year I camped out in Baraboo Wisconsin around the same time of year and the temperature dropped down to -5°f. After some minor car camping improvements I headed out to Devil's Lake State Park in Baraboo Wisconsin for a couple days once again. On day one the temperature dropped down to -7°f. On the 2nd night it dropped down to a freezing -21.1°. The inside of my car was at 7°f by morning. Luckily I had a decent sleeping bag and a heated blanket to keep me warm. My face was still chilly though. During the day on day one the temperature got up to 20°f so I was able to hike around with out getting cold. On day two the temperature got to a high of 5°f. Aside from filming, I mostly stayed in the car that day and did some homework. Subscribe! Winter Camping in Sub-Zero temperatures (-26C) can be dangerous but if done properly you can enjoy yourself just the same. On this solo camping adventure I hiked back into the forest to the bushcraft camp. I had to cut a lot of firewood to get through the cold night ahead. Before dark I cook up a beef stew over the campfire and enjoy a cold beer before going to bed. In the morning I found my water, bacon and eggs were all frozen because of the extremely cold temperatures. I managed to save the bacon and melt the water for coffee. It was a long cold windy night but I made it through and hiked back out after a campfire breakfast. #solo #bushcraft #wintercamping Follow me on Instagram - 🤍 Merch Store - 🤍 Most of my videos involve Bushcraft, camping, campfire cooking, fishing, shelter builds, off grid, primitive technology, wilderness survival, outdoor skills. Hi Mav! I'm 8 years old and I watched your video with my Mom. I came up with a food recipe so let me tell you. So you need celery and onions and potatoes and oil and onion powder and garlic powder and parsley. First, chop the ingredients, simmer the ingredients in oil then add in water then add in instant cheese potatoes. It's potato soup! Breathability test video link 🤍 Just having a little fun out in a campground in the winter slightly below Zero F. I know it's not for everyone, but I just love sleeping in blankets rather than bags. Our survival blankets are light, breathable, and handle moisture very well. I really prefer simplicity in winter camping. Fire makes things mucky, setting up shelter is time consuming, so when I can I like to just plop down and sleep. Did a little temperature monitoring on this camp, inside vs outside for comparison. The term "off-the-grid" traditionally refers to not being connected to the electrical grid, but can also include other utilities like water, gas, and sewer systems, and can scale from residential homes to small communities. Self-sufficient means needing no outside help in satisfying one's basic needs, especially about the production of food, and homesteading means living a lifestyle of self-sufficiency. So by those definitions, the key to homesteading is learning to be self-sufficient.
