World War II Documentary - The Second World War is the deadliest conflict in human history. From Pearl Harbour and The Rise of The Third Reich to The Battle of Britain and Operation Barbarossa, The Second World War spans vast lands and cultures. |Try two months of Skillshare for free: 🤍 | This video specialises on the European front and delves into the international politics and battles of the time. Part 2 will focus on Pearl Harbour, Japan, China, North Africa and much more. Try two months of Skillshare for free: 🤍 In the Second World War, every bond between man and man was to perish. Crimes were committed by the Germans under the Hitlerite domination to which they allowed themselves to be subjected which find no equal in scale and wickedness with any that have darkened the human record. The wholesale massacre by systematised processes of six or seven millions of men, women, and children in the German execution camps exceeds in horror the rough-and-ready butcheries of Genghis Khan, and in scale reduces them to pigmy proportions. Deliberate extermination of whole populations was contemplated and pursued by both Germany and Russia in the Eastern war. The hideous process of bombarding open cities from the air, once started by the Germans, was repaid twenty-fold by the ever-mounting power of the Allies and found its culmination in the use of the atomic bombs which obliterated Hiroshima and Nagasaki. On the morning of August 9th 1945, air raid sirens began to ring out in the Japanese city of Nagasaki. However, a short while later the sirens rang out again indicating that there was no danger and people began to climb out of their shelters to carry on about their daily business. Japanese spotters had only identified two United States Army Air Force B-29 bombers and they had previously flown to the city of Kokura without dropping any weapons so Japanese authorities presumed they were merely on a reconnaissance mission. Six days after the attack, Japan surrendered to the Allies bringing to a close the most destructive conflict in recorded history that ended with the first two – and so far, only - nuclear attacks in history. It was the Second World War. In this, the first of a two-part special, we are going to examine some of the key elements and incidents of what is probably the single most influential conflict in the course of Human history. World War II Documentary - After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, what had started as a mainly European war, had now turned into a global conflict, with America’s focus now shifting towards the Pacific War as well as The North African and Italian Campaigns. Get a Huge Discount on NordVPN’s Ultimate Security Package Here ➼ 🤍 It's risk-free with Nord's 30-day money-back guarantee! Japan's attack had backfired and far from wiping out American influence in the Pacific, they had just awoken a sleeping giant, with the subsequent Battles of the Corral sea and Midway shifting the balance of the war. The Allies would also see success in North Africa, with Erwin Rommel 'The Desert Fox' being forced off the continent, securing Egypt and in particular the Suez Canal for the British. From Africa, the Allies would be able to disrupt Axis operations in the Medditarain with the Invasions of Sicily and Italy all on the horizon. The War was finally turning in the Allies favour and it would not be long until the Axis were retreating, being pushed all the way back to their homelands. Hi everyone, I'm sorry for the very long wait in uploads, however, hopefully you will understand why, as it has taken me almost a year to research and produce this video. On September 1st, 1939, Germany declares war on Poland and throws the world into the largest conflict humanity has ever seen. I have done my best to do accurate borders, encirclements and army sizes. If you see any mistakes or inaccuraices, or if you simply just have suggestions, then let me kno in the comments and I will include them in my next video! Besides, sit back and relax, I hope that you enjoy the video!

With the Great Depression sapping the will of Western democracies to intervene, Mussolini and Hitler are able to grab and expand their powers. Recorded by World at War
In which John Green teaches you about World War II, aka The Great Patriotic War, aka The Big One. So how did this war happen? And what does it mean? We've all learned the facts about World War II many times over, thanks to repeated classroom coverage, the History channel, and your grandfather (or maybe great-grandfather) showing you that Nazi bayonet he used to keep in his sock drawer and telling you a bunch of age-inappropriate stories about his harrowing war experiences. So, why did the Axis powers think forceful expansion was a good idea? (they were hungry). So why did this thing shake out in favor of the Allies? Hint: it has to do with the fact that it was a world war. Germany and Japan made some pretty serious strategic errors, such as invading Russia and attacking the United States, and those errors meant that pretty much the whole world was against them. So, find out how this worldwide alliance came together to stop the Axis expansion. All this, plus Canada finally gets the respectful treatment it deserves. Oh, and a warning: there are a few graphic images in this episode. Sensitive viewers may want to use caution, especially around the 9:15 mark. Summary of Events 1939-1945 The European Theater GERMAN AGGRESSION The war in Europe began in September 1939, when Germany, under Chancellor Adolf Hitler, invaded Poland. Britain and France responded by declaring war on Germany but took little action over the following months. In 1940, Germany launched its next initiative by attacking Denmark and Norway, followed shortly thereafter by attacks on Belgium, the Netherlands, and France. All of these nations were conquered rapidly. THE BATTLE OF BRITAIN Later in the summer of 1940, Germany launched a further attack on Britain, this time exclusively from the air. The Battle of Britain was Germany’s first military failure, as the German air force, the Luftwaffe, was never able to overcome Britain’s Royal Air Force. GREECE AND NORTH AFRICA As Hitler plotted his next steps, Italy, an ally of Germany, expanded the war even further by invading Greece and North Africa. The Greek campaign was a failure, and Germany was forced to come to Italy’s assistance in early 1941. THE USSR Later in 1941, Germany began its most ambitious action yet, by invading the Soviet Union. Although the Germans initially made swift progress and advanced deep into the Russian heartland, the invasion of the USSR would prove to be the downfall of Germany’s war effort. The country was just too big, and although Russia’s initial resistance was weak, the nation’s strength and determination, combined with its brutal winters, would eventually be more than the German army could overcome. In 1943, after the battles of Stalingrad and Kursk, Germany was forced into a full-scale retreat. During the course of 1944, the Germans were slowly but steadily forced completely out of Soviet territory, after which the Russians pursued them across eastern Europe and into Germany itself in 1945. THE NORMANDY INVASION In June 1944, British and American forces launched the D-Day invasion, landing in German-occupied France via the coast of Normandy. Soon the German army was forced into retreat from that side as well. Thus, by early 1945, Allied forces were closing in on Germany from both east and west. The Soviets were the first to reach the German capital of Berlin, and Germany surrendered in May 1945, shortly after the suicide of Adolf Hitler. The Pacific Theater PEARL HARBOR The war in the Pacific began on December 7, 1941, when warplanes from Japan launched a surprise attack on the U.S. Navy base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. By this time, Japan had already been at war with China for several years and had seized the Chinese territory of Manchuria. After the Pearl Harbor attack, Japan began a massive campaign of expansion throughout the Southeast Asia–Pacific region. THE U.S. ENTRANCE AND BATTLE OF MIDWAY Although the Pearl Harbor attack provoked a declaration of war by the United States on Japan the very next day, it would be several months before U.S. forces would get seriously involved militarily. In late spring of 1942, the United States and Japan engaged in a series of naval battles, climaxing in the Battle of Midway on June 3–6, 1942, in which Japan suffered a catastrophic defeat. THE SOLOMON ISLANDS AND GUADALCANAL THE APPROACH TO JAPAN Fighting continued throughout the Pacific in 1944 and early 1945, including major battles at Leyte, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. By the late spring of 1945, most of Japan’s conquests had been liberated, and Allied forces were closing in on the Japanese home islands. As they neared Japan proper, the Allies began heavy bombing campaigns against major Japanese cities, including Tokyo. This process continued through the summer of 1945 until finally, in early August, the United States dropped two atomic bombs on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Stunned by the unexpected devastation, Japan surrendered a few days later.

It was a bitter fight for supremacy in Asia. Japan had provoked the US in the Pacific War. The Second World War now spanned the entire globe. The two naval nations competed against each other on the world’s largest ocean and fought battles on an unprecedented scale. In the attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941, Japanese bombers destroy most of the American Pacific fleet within hours and kill 2,500 U.S. soldiers. The surprise military strike is intended to help secure Japan's supremacy in the Eastern Pacific. It is the beginning of the Pacific War, which only comes to an end after the atomic bombs are dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in the summer of 1945. The Allies have reached the linchpin of the German defenses in Italy, but a first attack proves disastrous. It does, though, divert troops from where they soon plan to make landings behind enemy lines. Meanwhile in the USSR, the huge Soviet offensive in the north makes great gains against the stunned Axis forces. Dachau Massacre - Brutal Execution of Nazi Guards during Dachau Liberation Reprisals - World War 2. The major purpose of the earliest concentration camps during the 1930s was to incarcerate and intimidate the leaders of political, social, and cultural movements that the Nazis perceived to be a threat to the survival of the regime. In the concentration camps the prisoners lived in constant fear of the brutal treatment and terror exerted by the SS. One such camp was Dachau. The first prisoner transports arrived in the camp on the 22nd of March 1933. In October the same year, Dachau’s commandant, Theodor Eicke, introduced a system of regulations which inflicted brutal punishments on prisoners for the slightest offenses. Eicke ensured that the Dachau camp served as a model for all later concentration camps. It also became a training center or “a school of violence “for SS guards who were deployed throughout the concentration camp system. During the early years relatively few Jews were interned in Dachau and then only usually because they belonged to one of the above groups or had completed prison sentences after being convicted for violating the 1935 Nuremberg Laws which put Nazi ideas about race into law. The number of Jewish prisoners at Dachau rose with the increased persecution of Jews. The camp was divided into two sections—the camp area and the crematoria area. After the Second World War began on the 1st of September 1939, living conditions for the prisoners in the Dachau concentration camp drastically worsened. The murderous working conditions, the insufficient rations, and a lack of hygiene facilities in the camp led to a soaring death rate. The crematorium area was constructed next to the main camp in 1942. It included the old crematorium and the new crematorium with a gas chamber. Instead, prisoners underwent so called "selection" and those who were judged too sick or weak to continue working were sent to the Hartheim "euthanasia" killing center near Linz in Austria. More than 2,500 Dachau prisoners were murdered in the gas chambers at Hartheim. In addition, mass executions by shooting took place, first in the bunker courtyard and later in a specially designed SS shooting range. Thousands of Dachau prisoners were murdered there, including at least 4,000 Soviet prisoners of war following the invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941. Beginning in 1942, German physicians performed medical experiments on the prisoners in Dachau. Dachau prisoners were also used as forced laborers. They were employed in the operation of the camp, in various construction projects, and in small handicraft industries established in the camp. They built roads, worked in gravel pits, and drained marshes. All under terrible conditions. During the war, forced labor using concentration camp prisoners became increasingly important to German armaments production. In the summer and fall of 1944, to increase war production, satellite camps under the administration of Dachau were established near armaments factories throughout southern Germany. Thousands of prisoners were worked to death. At the end of April 1945, the SS also began evacuating prisoners from the Dachau concentration camp to prevent their liberation by Allied troops. At least 25,000 prisoners from the Dachau camp system were sent on exhausting foot marches in the direction of Tyrol or taken away in freight trains. During these so-called death marches, the Germans shot anyone who could no longer continue. Many also died of starvation, hypothermia, or exhaustion. Several thousand prisoners died in the process. On the 29th of April 1945, the Dachau main camp was liberated by units of the 45th Infantry division. After the US soldiers ordered the SS guards to line up along the wall in the coal yard by the guard tower, Lieutenant Walsh yelled “Let them have it” and the US soldiers opened fire with rifles, pistols, and the 30 Caliber machine gun. After a 30-second flurry of gunfire, the Nazi guards were killed on the spot. Because General Patton, then military governor of Bavaria, dismissed all the charges, nobody has ever stood trial before the court for this reprisal. Out of over 200 thousand people who were imprisoned in Dachau and in the numerous subsidiary camps during its 12 years existence between 1933 and 1945, nearly 42 000 people were murdered. With the onset of Spring 1942, the war in the east was ready to begin again but the problem of supplies particularly of oil was forever a worry for the German High Command and so they planned for an offensive that if successful would not only alleviate their fuel shortage but also deny the Soviets their own fuel stocks. Part of that plan involved a city on the edge of the Volga River in eastern Ukraine. This city formerly known as Volgagrad had since been bestowed with the name of the Soviet leader himself and while few people before the war knew it even existed, in the decades since its name has adorned almost every history book as an example of what occurs when two powerful forces clash and refuse to submit to the other. This is the story of the Battle for Stalingrad. In times of war, all the citizens of the countries involved are affected, not only the high leaders, political leaders and soldiers of the army receive the effects of a warlike confrontation. On many occasions the economy for the middle and low social strata becomes even more complicated, especially if the person who provides for the home is forced to take up arms. The Second World War in particular demanded the support of the country's women to fill positions that at that time were destined only for men. Given the lack of manpower, mothers, wives and daughters who met the necessary characteristics for the job played roles ranging from simple to complicated and dangerous, even fighting as full-fledged soldiers. Today we will talk about the positions that these brave women held during World War II and the value of their work in the different countries involved, Welcome to Copernicus’s Galaxy. Women: An essential role during WW2 Gender discrimination in all aspects has been present until today. Although women have managed to prove their ability and worth with the passage of time, they still have a long way to go. At a time when the separation of gender roles was quite clear, women were not allowed to perform outside their socially accepted work under any circumstances. At first, the government, businesses and society itself did not want to accept that women take positions that should be held by a man. They considered women to have no skills or strength. However, time was pressing. Both the country's own army and that of the allies needed weapons, food and services, which were in short supply due to the lack of manpower, so all those who were opposed to employing women to meet these needs had no choice but to swallow their old-fashioned pride. The life of the "ladies of the street" in WW2 Having to fight in hostile terrain, under constant life-threatening danger is bound to generate exorbitant levels of stress. If they do not find an escape valve, this stress could accumulate and wreak havoc on the soldiers' minds, obstructing their performance on the front line. Ugly Carnival and the Shaving of French Heads It is almost certain that no one watching this today knows the feelings caused by being occupied by a foreign military force, the horrors and humiliation possibly experienced by the citizens of different countries during the years it lasted. Yet, there is no excuse for the cruel treatment given to the women of German and French towns and villages, among others, for their supposedly dishonorable actions, without taking into account the circumstances. The personalities and spectres of Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin loom large in the events of the twentieth Century. They were similar in some respects and yet very different in others. The first in a series that examines the interaction of the leading protagonists of WW2, this program looks in some depth at the nature of the relationship and interaction of these two ‘warlords’. The use of primary materials and memoirs as sources gives the psycho-historical analysis some substance. It's like Netflix for history... The Second World War in the Netherlands was during the period of 1940 to 1945. How do the Dutch remember WW II? The Netherlands during WW II is known as a profound period in Dutch history. The German invasion of the Netherlands lasted five days. After the German conquest of Holland was completed the German occupation of the Netherlands began. My grandparents have told me many stories of World War Two in the Netherlands. A topic often told about is the Dutch resistance. Views about Dutch collaborators have changed lately. In recent years different perspectives on WW II and the Netherlands are being elaborated on. In this video Stefan will explain everything about the Dutch recollection of Holland during WW II. Jakob Nacken, who would become known as the tallest soldier in the Wehrmacht, was born on February 15, 1906 in the city of Dusseldorf, Germany. The incredible height that he would reach is not surprising when we consider that all the members of his family had similar features. Both her mother and father were six feet tall, while her three brothers were six feet eight, six feet three, and seven feet. Jakob was the one who crowned that home of giants, growing far above all the others, until he was 2 meters 21 centimeters tall. 🔴 WATCH THE VIDEO OF THE NEW CHANNEL: Military Might 👉🤍
