And with Kuro no Kiseki releasing late last year, I was finally able to give it a go thanks to the generous and talented blokes over at the Zerofield team. Kuro no Kiseki is the first game of the long awaiting Calvard arc, and is the 11th title in the mainline Series. It also acts as a soft reboot for the Trails Series in many ways, overhauling combat, utilising a new engine and introducing a new land. So if you're trying to figure out if Kuro no Kiseki might be a good game to start in the Trails Series, if you're looking for which game to start with in the Trails Series or if you just want to know what Kuro no Kiseki is all about, then hopefully this video will give you what you need. Great franchise that's been around since the Turbografx CD of all things after spinning off of the Dragon Slayer series. RIght now here in the states we are all eagerly awaiting the release of the ported remasters of the crossbell arc 2 YEARS AFTER THEY CAME OUT IN JAPAN! But over in the land of the rising sun they are getting the latest and greatest. The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki aka the Calvard arc launched back in 2021 in Japan and very shortly the second game in the arc Crimson Sin will launch. It will probably be a hella long time before we get a localization here in the west going by Nihon Falmcoms track record and I'd love to take a look at what to expect for the new game because we are a bunch of self hating masochists who want what we can't have but after spending some time trying to translate japanese articles my brain hurts and google translate isnt great at long form reading so screw that. Instead let's talk about the issue brought before us today that the legend of heroes series is so emblematic of in the gaming industry and that is STAGGERED RELEASES. I honestly do not see the point in this day and age delaying releases to series that have proven to be popular in the west. With so many companies moving to the world wide release model in recent years, why are some developers so intent on punishing us poor westerners? Atlus used to be guilty as recently as Persona 5 with six month staggered releases between Japan and the rest of the world but has since moved into the era of world wide releases with all of the rest of the main line companies like Square, Nintendo and Sony. Nihon Falcom on the other hand seems intent to make us suffer though. The legend of heroes series is iconic here in the west and not for a good reason. Many of us didn't even know of the series' existence until Trails of Cold Steel came out on PS3 & the Vita. After all, the franchise has had a hella spotty release. Lets do a rundown so youll see what I mean Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes - Only released on the Turbografx CD in North America, are you kidding me Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes II - Never released outside Japan The Legend of Heroes II: Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch - Only released in North America after being ported to PSP 12 years after its initial release The Legend of Heroes: A Tear of Vermillion - Ditto 11 years after initial release The Legend of Heroes III: Song of the Ocean - 8 years after initial release The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky - 7 years after initial release The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC - 11 years after initial release The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 3rd - 10 years on PC AND IT GOES ON, ARE YOU SENSING A PATTERN HERE? This is one of the most prolific JRPG series that has consistently not been released in North America until years after the fact and usually only on PSP which has skyrocketed in value in the past number of years. The entire Crossbell Arc & Nayuta is finally being rereleased on modern consoles over the course of the next year which is great, fantastic, amazing. But the Liberal Arc is still locked to older hardware and PC. Worst of all is the Kuro no Kiseki arc. Trails of Cold Steel 4, the most recent western release, did not come until 2 years after the japanese release. Trails into Reverie the conclusion of the arc won't come until next year, again two years after the Japanese release. At this pace Kuro 1 won't come to the west until at least 2024 and the soonest we are likely to see Kuro 2 which everyone is going gaga over right now won't hit the west until 2025 at the earliest . I realize this is a huge tirade against The Heroes franchise and Falcom but it's only because I love the series so much and would love to be able to enjoy it when it actually hits shelves and not two years later. I mean Ys IX got a near simultaneous worldwide release with only a 4 month gap which is acceptable so why can't the same happen here. At the end of the day this is a great franchise and great developer. I can't wait to show my support by buying the games when they release here in the west and that's what really matters so even if I have to wait I just want to say thank you to Falcom for continuing to make such a great series.
