Aerial refueling, the process of transferring fuel from a tanker to a receiver midair, is quite useful as it allows jets to fly longer and further. However, undertaking the procedure is a lot more complicated than it seems. This is because the tanker has a relatively small area to safely refuel an aircraft. This part of the procedure has two risks: going too far and breaching the area. The last one could damage not just the refueling equipment, but the aircraft themselves in a potentially fatal collision. In 1966, aerial refueling caused a collision known as the Palomares incident that resulted in both planes being destroyed, seven out of the 11 total crew members losing their lives, and the receiver aircraft’s radioactive payload contaminating the crash site. That’s as bad as things can get! So how do militaries decide refueling logistics based on the aircraft being flown? How do they know when it's safe to refuel? What are the two prevailing methods of aerial refueling? How is each one executed and which one is the safest? We answer these questions and more in our video. Alternatively, probe-drogue refueling (PDR) involves coupling a probe on a receiver aircraft with a probe receptacle (drogue) attached to a flexible, fuel hose from the tanker aircraft.

This was a rough day tanking off a NATO Canadian CC-150 somewhere over Iraq. At the beginning of the video, I am in starboard observation, waiting for the tanker to deploy its drogues. Once cleared, I proceed to precontact right. After contact, however, the boom operator directs me to disconnect, so he can troubleshoot a "low flow" issue. Fuel was not flowing to my jet at a normal rate. After I back out, I try to reengage the drogue on the tanker's starboard wing for about three minutes. As you can see, the basket was moving around too much for me to connect safely. As I grow increasingly frustrated, I noticed that the drogue on the port wing was not moving nearly as much as the one on the starboard side, so I ask the boom operator if I can switch sides. After cleared to precontact left, I finally contact the port drogue. I was able to stay in the basket, get my gas, then support troops on the ground. The evolution took longer than it should have, but I'm glad I got my gas and didn't make any dangerous plays for the basket. I earned my paycheck today. Fly Navy! Zimbabwe is at risk of losing its youth to codeine cough syrup, as the addiction epidemic has already engulfed what the experts estimate could be over half the country’s young people. Despite the growing problem, Zimbabwe’s government has not yet opened rehabilitation clinics, meaning addicts are often sent to prison or psychiatric wards. The cough syrup, often of the brand BronCleer, is imported illegally from South Africa, and is sold on every street corner, in bars, school yards and on busses for as little as $3 a bottle. We meet current and former users, as well as the NGOs pushing the government to open up rehabs, to find out why cough syrup has become the drug of choice for so many young Zimbabweans. Hey guys! This video is intended to be a broad overview and guide to air to air refueling for all of the different types of aircraft in DCS World. While all aircraft in DCS fly very differently and have different techniques to successfully A2A Refuel they all have common threads and principles that we go over in this video. In my opinion there are two important rules for air to air refueling: 1- Relax: Tense muscles are slow and imprecise, while relaxed muscles are fast, responsive and precise and air to air refueling is all about precision. 2- Be Patient: Take your time and be patient with yourself and your aircraft, the more you try to rush or force the air to air refueling event the worse it will go, and the worse off your fuel situation will become. I highly recommend practicing Air to Air Refueling in multiplayer with a friend so that way you guys can chat, sing songs or shoot the shit to stay relaxed, if you are practicing by yourself listen to some music to help keep you loose.
