The wild weather seems to be getting wilder, more extreme.” Founded in 1948, Glenmore Lodge sits deep in the Cairngorms National Park, providing opportunities for individuals to develop mountain skills, and gain qualifications, to inspire the next generation of adventurers. Relentlessly at the forefront of the harshest Scottish weather, the Glenmore guides and instructors form a key part of our extensive field-testing process, helping us perfect our designs, and continue to make gear at the pinnacle of innovation. But the climate is changing. Conditions are becoming more uncertain, and more volatile. Both our gear, and how we operate, must adapt. #TheMountainPeople 🤍 🤍

Loch Morlich was indeed a vast, mountainous scene with picturesque surroundings but it was definitely Loch An Eilean with it's 'floating' 13th century castle that captured my imagination and inspired me to paint the landscape. Our trip ended with witnessing the famous Strathspey steam train as it departed Aviemore in a cloud of white. Weekend in the Cairngorms, Scottish Highlands In November, me and Amy spent a weekend in Cairngorms National Park in the Scottish Highlands. We stayed in a cosy log cabin in Aviemore (Pine Bank Chalets), which is just a short distance from some of the best walks in the Cairngorms. On our first day, we walked the Meall a' Bhuachaille circuit from Glenmore, stopping at Ryvoan Bothy and the Green Loch, and ending on the sandy shores of Loch Morlich. On our second day, we did an easy walk around Loch an Eilein. We arrive in the Cairngorms after spending 2 months traveling around Scotland in our self-converted Ford Transit, La Bamba. After visiting the rugged Isle of Skye we followed the NC500 around Scotland's Northern tip, but now we head inland to the heart of Scotland. The Cairngorm's National park is a huge area of rugged mountains. On arriving we explore Avimore in the search of a vegan breakfast, before driving off into the hills above Loch Morlich. While parked up here we are visited by a herd of reindeer who surprise us by appearing at the window of our van. The next day we go foraging before moving on to an amazingly secluded park up, we use the near by stream to wash in the icy waters, visit lots of forests in the local area and visit the Highland Folk Museum. The end of the week sees us visiting three amazing waterfalls in one day. The falls of Bruar, the falls of Acharn and the Birks of Aberfeldy. We spend that evening in Pitlochry where we enjoy pints, charity shops and get a chippy. This week sees us reach the bottom of the Cairngorms, but fear not, we will be making a U-turn before re-entering the national park next week on the east of the mountains. -8 Windchill Winter Hiking & Wild Camping in the Cairngorms I head to the Cairngorms National Park to meet up with an old school friend. We stayed at his cottage and then headed out to Loch Callater which is approximately 5 miles south of Braemar. Snow was still lying on the higher peaks in the area, which made for a stunning backdrop during the hike in. We pitched the tents and off loaded some gear, before heading up to summit the Munro of Carn an t-Sagairt Mor which stands at 1,047m. Spikes were essential for some of the snow patches which had hardened into wind scoured and icy layers. We also took ice axes, although not essential for the ground on our route they provided great opportunities to practice in their use. After summiting, we headed back down to the Loch to enjoy an evening meal and few beers in the relative warmth and shelter of the bothy, before turning into our tents for the night. The winds picked up overnight and with the forecast set to deteriorate further with 105 kmh winds on the summits, we didn't hang around for too long the next day. A fantastic micro adventure in our great outdoors, with top memories made! Big shout out to Lee and Steph for hosting us - Adam too, great to meet you! In 1885, having made his fortune as a sheep grazier in Australia, Duncan Macpherson returned to his native Scotland and purchased the Glen Doll estate. He immediately tried to block access onto his land, but was met with direct action from the newly formed Scottish Rights of Way Society (now ScotWays), who wanted to keep the route open. The dispute went from the hillside to the House of Lords, bankrupting both parties but eventually being decided in the society’s favour in 1887. The way was named the Jock’s Road after Jock Winter, a local shepherd who fought alongside the Scottish Rights of Way Society. The ruling set a legal precedent and prompted a series of legislative measures which, over the following century, were to lay the foundations for Scotland’s modern-day exploratory freedoms. Cairngorms National Park is a great place for hiking and exploring the picturesque Scottish highlands landscape. It’s home to many plants, creatures and ecosystems. It houses over half of the surviving ancient Caledonian Scottish forest. It’s also home to the Cairngorm Mountain range, which lies in the heart of the park. On a whim, for my birthday hike, we decided to hike Cairn Gorm itself, the 7th tallest mountain in the British Isles. And we really had no idea just how ruggedly beautiful the landscape could be. We took the 7.2 mile loop Cairn Gorm loop trail through the Cairngorm mountain summit, through Stob Coire an t-Sneachda and Cairn Lochan. You can add the Ben MacDui loop if you want a longer route. What a spectacular few days we had in the Cairngorms National Park last Autumn. It started with a visit to Balmoral Castle and a hike up to Prince Alberts Cairn - Balmoral Pyramid. Then a walk around Glen Tanar National Nature Reserve and Muir of Dinnet Nature Reserve to see Burn o’Vat and Loch Kinord. The following day we hiked up Cairn Gorm Mountain, even though the weather was against us! On the final day it was a bit of sunrise photography at Loch Morlich, visiting a wild herd of Reindeers and ending at Loch an Eilein. I think it's safe to say we made the most of our time in this beautiful part of Scotland! The Cairngorms National Park is in the northeast of Scotland. It's the largest national park in the UK covering an area of 4,528 square kilometre. This is a haven for those who love outdoor activities. Hence, it is often referred to as the adventure capital of the UK. Here are the things that should be in your must-do list when you're in the area: 00:36 Take a walk around a loch (lake for us non-Scottish). There's plenty of them around. We essentially just picked a random lake near our BnB and boy were we surprised with how stunning Loch Morlich is. Apparently, scenes in season 5 of Game of Thrones were filmed here. 1:59 Go horse riding/trekking. I've not done this before but I absolutely loved it! The places where they take you is out of this world. I had to pinch myself to remind me that it's real and I'm not just dreaming. We've been told that for experience riders, they will even take you to the mountains were the view is even more spectacular. 4:04 Meet Rudolph. Well, maybe not Rudolph exactly but some of his cousins and friends. I did not know this before but there are reindeer here in the UK. They are up in the Cairngorms mountain so you will have to do a litte bit of walk up the mountain (about 30 mins). I literally turn into a giggling mess when I met them. There's something about reindeer that makes me feel like a child again! 6:12 Explore the quaint and lovely little towns. There's so many of them but when you're driving around, stop on any random town and go for a walk. You will thank yourself afterwards. 8:36 Visit a whisky distillery. A trip in the Scottish Highlands is not complete without visiting a whisky distillery. Learn more about the process of making whisky, the history of the distillery and of course taste as much whisky as you can. No driving for the rest of the day though, so make sure you're staying within the walking distance from the distillery. I hope you guys enjoy this video and it encourages you to visit the Cairngorms National Park. Music: 🤍 -About the Channel My name's Ryan and welcome to my channel. Hiking 66km over 2 days in the Cairngorms National Park in Scotland. We experienced sunshine, heavy horizontal rain, sleet and strong winds in the largest National Park in the UK. The Cairngorms National Park is twice the size of the Lake District and covers a large part of the eastern Highlands and west Aberdeenshire. Our tour lead us through the center of the Cairngorms which is probably the most impressive area within the National Park, starting at Linn of Dee...Faindouran Bothy, Ryvoan Bothy, Lairig Gruh, Corrour Bothy and back to the starting point Linn of Dee. I’ve wanted to do Ben MacDui for a while now. Its located in one of the most inhospitable environments in Scotland, at the edge of the Cairngorm Plateau. From Cairngorm Mountain resort, we headed up to the summit of Cairngorm, along to Stob Coire an t-Snechda before crossing the plateau over to Ben MacDui, all the while surrounded by some of the highest mountains in Scotland. You can access the mountain from the Lin of Dee or Cairngorm Mountain near Aviemore. I chose to tackle it from Cairngorm direction so I could get to see and cross the plateau for myself. The views were worth it! The sheer scale of the place is hard to describe. The mountains in this part of the Cairngorms are big! Looking down on Carn a'Mhaim from almost 300m higher made it look minuscule! A Brilliant day out in the hills, Definitely one worth visiting! Thanks for watching! Scottish Highlands Solo Winter Wild Camp in the Cairngorms in my Hilleberg Soulo - I set off from the Ski Centre and headed for the 2nd highest mountain in the UK; Ben Macdui at 4294ft (1309m). This was also my second Munro on the Scottish mainland. It look me 3hrs to reach the summit and I was greeted with stunning 360degree views. From the summit of Ben Macdui I retraced my steps north, before bearing NE to Stob Coire an t-Sneachda at 3854ft (1175m). I managed to find a small group of rocks just south of this which offered some protection from the winds and somewhere to pitch my tent at 3750ft (1143m) which is my highest ever pitch. A stunning night on the mountain with clear skies above but also temperatures of -8degC and 40mph winds. I packed up at first light and headed back via the summit of Cairn Gorm 4084ft (1245m) where the automated weather station was frozen solid and looked like a giant snow man. From here I took the direct descent route to the Ptarmigan top station and then down to the bottom station car park. My previous camps this winter in the Lake District really served as invaluable preparation for this trip to the Scottish Highlands. An absolutely amazing solo adventure covering a total of 14miles (22.5km) and a height gain of 3800ft (1158m), and taking in 2 Munros (Scottish mountains over 3000ft). Drone used is the DJI Mini 2. Summer 2020 and after emerging from lockdown, a group of us got together to head out for a few nights bikepacking around the Cairngorms national park. We started in very wet and windy conditions as a big low front passed over Scotland. The weather improved slightly and we had a great time swimming and camping. The midges were horrendous on our second night after the wind dropped.
This video is a little bit different as I spent the whole day photographing red squirrels from a purpose built hide up in the Cairngorms National Park. After a few days of wild camping, removing ticks, being bitten by midges and mosquitos it was really nice to have a chilled day photographing these wonderful red squirrels in comfort. The hide is owned by Neil McIntyre and you can find more details on his hide by clicking the link below. 🤍 I hope you enjoyed the video and I just want to thank everyone once again for subscribing to my channel, I've been blown away by the recent support! ................. SCOTLAND: The Big Picture was commissioned by the Cairngorms National Park Authority to showcase the spectacular mountains of this, Britain’s largest and wildest National Park. Filmed over several seasons using both aerial and timelapse footage, the film reminds us of the scale and splendour of this wild landscape.

After traveling through South East Asia and starting Finding Our Adventure we wanted to explore more of our own country and Europe. That led to a 2 year van obsession, we watched every video on Youtube we could find and spent countless hours designing our own tiny home on wheels. Finally we were able to purchase our Ford Transit and spent 7 months converting it into our very own little campervan. Took a walk from the Cairngorms ski centre into Choire an t- Sneachda and then around to Choire an Lochain. Pretty bad conditions for filming but just wanted to show you what it was like and how beautiful the frozen Lochain was. Apologies for the shaking camera and water on the lens due to the winds up to 70mph, rain and blowing snow. A 7 mile walk with 2000ft of ascent. Thanks for watching. Hope you enjoyed it. This was all about just getting out for fresh air. Nothing more, nothing less! The Devil's Point - or Bod an Deamhain (Penis of the Demon) to give its original Gaelic name - is a bare pyramid of rock which guards the entrance to the Lairig Ghru from the south.
