Amber Heard Returns to Witness Stand in Johnny Depp Libel Case

Amber Heard told jurors "the violence became almost normal," as she returned to the witness stand Monday, for her third day of testimony in a libel suit filed against her by her ex-husband, Johnny Depp. Heard began by telling the court the first act of violence took place earlier in their relationship than she had previously testified. "You never forget the first time someone hits you like that. I just had the date wrong," she said, adding she was "embarassed" about the confusion. "I think I would have liked to have believed that the period of time in which I had to fall in love with Johnny, in which we fell in love and he was sober and he wasn't violent to me, lasted for a lot longer than it did. I think I would have liked to have believed that I, I wasn't hit so early in the relationship and still stayed. He was also sober for a period in 2012, which was a peaceful time for us in which we fell in love. So I had kind of allowed myself, I guess, to forget that the beginning of that period, 2012, before he got sober was was really violent and chaotic as well. I'm embarrassed to say that." " Heard went on to detail how allegations of other acts of abuse were made, telling the court she prepared her account by cross referencing information including her therapist notes, journals, text messages and photos. Asked why she didn't also "just remember" those events, Heard told the court,"That's - that's not how your memory, or my memory works." The high-profile trial is resuming after a one-week hiatus to accommodate a judicial conference. Jurors have already heard four weeks of testimony. Heard has already spent two days on the witness stand and still has not been cross-examined by Depp's lawyers. Heard told jurors she was physically and sexually abused on multiple occasions before and during her brief marriage to Depp, which lasted from 2015-16. Depp has already testified and denied he ever hit Heard. Depp is suing Heard in Fairfax County Circuit Court for libel over an op-ed she wrote in The Washington Post describing herself as “a public figure representing domestic abuse.” His lawyers say he was defamed by the 2018 article even though it never mentioned his name. Johnny Depp, 58, is suing actress Amber Heard, his former partner, for libel over a 2018 article she wrote in The Washington Post in which she discussed her experiences of domestic abuse. Mr Depp’s lawyers say the article falsely implies Ms Heard, 35, was physically and sexually abused by him when they were married. He says the accusations have made it difficult for him to get the sorts of roles he used to, and launched the 50 million dollar (£38.2 million) lawsuit in 2019. • Subscribe to ITV News on YouTube: 🤍 • Get breaking news and more stories at 🤍 Follow ITV News on Facebook: 🤍 Follow ITV News on Twitter: 🤍 Follow ITV News on Instagram: 🤍
