I have a feeling that whole not seeing each other in Area Zero is a bug, because I was linked on Violet with my son on Scarlet, in A-0, and we couldn't see each other at all, until after I caught one of the pokemon from Scarlet, and then for some reason, until we zoned out, i could see him, but he still couldn't see me.
I've never heard the term "OT - snob" but I'm using that now cuz same! And I love that this game lets you do this! Now I don't have to play the whole game a second time to get them with my trainer name!
Your method worked great! Found a Shiny Iron Bundle on my first lap, too. I saved in front of it, but mistakenly brought out my Tyranitar once it was down to low HP, having taken out my Iron Valiant. My first Iron Bundle was Krambirb, so I named it Krambirb Mk2.

I found my sandy shocks on the top of the rock slope vs the bottom. If u cant find the cave, i found the moon by falling down the waterfall into that cave with the crop circle marks

After digging into the game and really locking in my opinion has changed completely I absolutely loved violet and the end song 😮I was like oh yeah i didnt give the game a fair shake

Is there anywhere else I can find roaring moon? A ton of other dark and dragon types spawn in that cave so sandwiches don't really work to shiny hunt it.
seeing how Iron hands can be other Fighting or Lighting what do you make for it?
