U9jirFqex6g&t=16m50s 16:50 actually, there are actually high speed trains going from the Netherlands (from Amsterdam, stopping in Rotterdam as well) to brussels and Paris.

It's also the only high speed rail we actually have in the Netherlands, but there are plans for more (which will probably be cancelled anyways they need to add extra hsr tracks for that and that's where it goes wrong all the time)

The public transport system is reliable in Europe as long as there is no strikes.

I've tried looking for trains from birmingham to marseille, it is a travel around 9h changing of train 3 times vs 5h of flight considering the travels to the airport and from the other airport and waits. Also the price of travelling on train is like 4 times the price of the flight, so obviously going on train is a much worse option in this case.

Tell your railroad that Integral Coach Factory, Madras aka Chennai, India has released the fast yet economical Train 18/ Vande Bharat engines/ coaches. They were rated for 180 kmph and have been upgraded for 200 kmph
Our foolish Indian Govt may be fiddling with Bullet (Japan) and other non - Indian sources for engines/ coaches but that shouldn't stop but that shouldn't stop others from shopping for Train 18 with ICF Madras/ Chennai, India
Only make sure you insist on V Guard safety device welded in front like in the locos of the past 150 years in UK/USA where the cow is pushed aside instead of damaging the engine front wall

If a train ticket from Berlin to Munich costs 175€ and 175€ back you bet your ass I am taking a plane.

Its not true that Eurostar to Amsterdam from London are over 206$ I have seen them for 39 GBP In fact if you want to go to Lille or Brussels its cheaper to by a ticket to the Netherlands and then just get off early.

I wouldn't hold my breath for the countries to start putting in the money to develop more high speed rail

I live in Barcelona, Spain. Since the introduction of private trains our disgraceful socialist government has made short and medium distance trips on RENFE (state owned railway company) "free". I suspect they didn't like that EU pushed those new shiny private and competitive trains, so they went for dishonest competition to maintain RENFE's monopoly and scratch some votes from mostly dumb people.

To move from Vannes to Poznan (in the west of Poland) I had to go through Rennes, Paris, Bruxelles, Cologne, Berlin and finally Poznan. It took me more than 30h to travel for a correct price. But by plane, it's 2h from Paris to Poznan and I just take the TGV in between for the rest of the route, for around 3 time the price. Well of course people are going to take the plane, and the more we take the plane the less they invest in trains 🤷‍♂️

Trains are still operating on a hub-spoke system, while air transport has transitioned to a point-to-point system. (as far as airport density goes)
I can even give a counter example on cost. If I would to book a trip from my city to Amsterdam it would be 40€ by high speed train and 29€ via regional budget options, but 159€ per plane for a direct flight making air travel almost 4 to 8 times as expensive. To Paris it's 100€ per train and 142€ per plane.

So unless you're living one of the huge metropol cities, travel via plane is more expensive.
And my example is coming from a smaller city that happens to have an airport. Go another step down, and you'd need a rail ticket to get the airport as well.

That French Rivera example is a perfect example.
Only long distance fast trains? That is basically the same as with airports when only the bigger places have any, while the smaller towns and villages don't have any place for planes to land and take off, but do have small train stations.
So if you don't live in a big million people city, you first have to get to one to reach the airport. For which going by train is a logical choice. And since you're already in a train on the way to the airport, why even bother with hour long security and boading procedures, when you can just walk 50m and hop into the long distance train.

With Milan - Paris approaching the cost of 30€, high speed trains are set to become the future of transportation in the EU. No check-in, no luggage shenanigans, no wait at the gate, just take the train and go

No interest in paying 6 times more to take 6 times longer to get to my destination. The train can take me to the airport. That's it.
