Aquarium Ranchu goldfish tank Care is super easy for fish tank keeping. These are some of the coolest pet goldfish to keep on the planet. Don’t hesitate to also join my Facebook group Goldfish Keepers. We have over 50k members. Additional fish aquarium talk: I’ve never been into koi so I truly think don’t know about their care. I do know that feeding any fish processed human food is beyond foolish. Chemicals and lack of food value. I don’t use salt except when absolutely necessary and then I liquefy it before using. or in my marine tank. To medicate anything without knowing what you are doing is once again beyond foolish. When offered information on something I don’t know about, I may not take it as written in stone, but I will definitely pay attention and do my own research. My youngest daughter brought home a bunch of carnival commits when she was 4 she thought they would live with my cichlids. She had rescued them from a fountain that parents were throwing them away in. Poor things. She cried herself to sleep that night. 🤍blackmoorgoldfish.org/cory-catfish-goldfish-will-work/ Railroad ties are made with a poison called creosote. I’ve used paint made with it. The fumes will kill people. I’m sure the water would be toxic in a few hours. Water changes are a very touchy subject with many aquarist. I was at an aquarium Socity meeting this spring and the guest speaker, who breeds many verities of fish and has for over 40 years does not believe in the usefulness of water changes. I personally use a continuous drip water change system. Dumping 12 fish into a tank from different sources is asking for problems and a “fast “ quarantine well that could last a week or a day with the knowledge of the person writing the letter. I see a lot of posts of people who buy homes with existing ponds. So this is a great topic! Some people do feed plain Cheerios or as a Spring food as a wheat germ food replacement. It is not good to feed a sugary food to fish. But some people do feed honey bread to fish out the honey has medicinal qualities to it and it is full of sugar. We do not feed wheat Germ food to our koi. We just feed less quantity of our normal koi food. It is not good to skimp on quality food for koi Although salt have medicinal qualities as well and is good to protect koi from high Nitrites. It also can kill quite a few parasites. You should not put salt in a pond unless you know the gallons and have a salt meter. And like any medication or antibiotic. it's not good to use it unless its needed and has a purpose.. Then you put again for up to 3 weeks.. if a need and then get it out with regular water changes. It's always good to treat the fish separately from the pond if possible. Salt is a controversial subject and some swear by it and some swear against it but it should never be compared to sea salt concentration. If koi are injured or weak. It can help them breathe easier and recover faster. As long as there are no medications that are conflicting with salt. And it also can be harmful to plants. Good to help them get a slime coat for any kind of handling with the net or shipping or breeding anything that can take off the slime coat which as protection against parasites The salt irritates their skin and helps them to regain a slime coat. Also salt can be an algae killer and if there is an algae in the pond. And it kills the algae and there is not enough aeration and the pond and the water is warmed up because it's summer. That is a combination that could be a fish killer because oxygen is sucked out of the pond when the algae dies. Whenever using any medications ..including salt. Also if and when adding salt good to bypass filter for at least one cycle of the pond because if it is not melted all the way or if it is put in too much at a time it can sterilize the filters possibly which means it would kill all the bio and the cycle. Good to put salt in a little bit at a time and if you have to put it in for a treatment in a hurry.. Get to divide the dose into thirds and put in a 3rd at a time. Add bypass filter each time as well. If using smaller doses it is still good to bypass filter to be on the safe side. Good to melt it 1st before putting in but it still is concentrated and needs to circulate around the pond before it goes through the filters 100% pure Water softener salt is good and cheaper then pond salt. it is good to make sure to add extra aeration to be safe. Good to do 10 to 25% water changes weekly with koi. To replenish minerals and water that are used up by the koi. And to help get rid of swimming parasites in the water And to help keep ammonia levels down as well as other parameters. If chloramines in the water then water treatment as well. Larger ponds can get away with less water changes
So frustrating...I listening for 2 seconds ..sorry
I looked on Google bout there gallon size and it said 10 gallons but why?? Don't they need a huge gallon tank
Can I keep 3 Ranchus in a Fluval Flex? Any opinions?
I JUST GOT A RANCHU I KNEW IT WOULD BE HARD BUT THIS IS A NIGHTMARE I love him thought help
Do you know what their life expectancy is like when given proper care? I haven't really heard of them lasting longer than 2 or 3 years, but maybe its a combination of how cute they are vs how hard they are to take care of that leads to a lot of inexperienced fishkeepers getting them and making mistakes.
Ranchus and orandas are great and all... But a rare new breed in the house in 2020,"Phoenix Tail Lionhead". 🙄😏😌😎😤
Oh my I don't know what I got into! My uncle just gave me 13 ranchu fries and I don't have a clue that they will be big like that and their head will engulf their eyes if not trimmed jeez I just recently into the hobby and just have a single betta now I also have 13 ranchus and have no big space for them when they grow out!

This is a good video as I may now the answer as to why I lost my lionhead goldfish. I have always fed goldfish with flake food (my dad was obsessed with goldfish so I learnt everything from him). I had never had a problem with before but it may explain the swim bladder problem that sadly took its life. I will take note of this and give a different diet for when I am ready to try keeping fancy goldfish again. 👍
One thing I will say is that my lionhead lived a tank with 2 common goldfish for 18 months with no problems at all, so I would say to judge by the fish that you already have and take it from there. It could just be that my fish are used to living with different types big and small as again, my dad was brilliant at keeping cold water community aquariums and also a lot of luck on my part I guess.
Ahhh I got a ranchu not knowing about the head possibility growing over their eyes 😢 I really hope that does not happen
