Try busy c stores along busy interstate to clean you van, that way people just think you traveling and stopped to clean up a little. You see all kinds in those store parking lots
A good place to clean up your van would be a car wash parking lot, maybe a gas station one

I envy you. traveling from place to place. I am 53 years old. I live in a trailer in a little trailer court in the mountains. I live on the mountain side and I have been home for 2 weeks because work tested me and said I had covid well for one I have allergies and just been congested no big deal but I have been watching a lot of videos and I said flat out if something happens to my trailer I will become a traveling nurse aide. I will still come home every other weekend and get my granddaughters and rent a place for the weekend even in the winters of Pennsylvania. but I will be traveling for my job. now don't get me wrong I like my trailer but I love seeing other places too. take care and be safe.

I would have just said I'm on vacation lots of people vacation in their cars and vans like I said in my other message we were a family of five and we've vacation from Vancouver Canada all the way up and down the coast to California that's how we ended up living in California every single year here and you were right to call out the helmets. And people probably think they're being helpful but I don't know why they assume everybody is homeless and my other message I was clearing out a storage unit and I had the security Cop come up to me because I was trying to rearrange the back so everything wasn't falling and I was buying more stuff to move into my new place so I don't know what the experience of people in parking lot but I found it really odd but guaranteed no matter where you go there are going to be people that are nosey
I know what you mean I don't even travel yet I was cleaning out my storage unit when I was moving and some things were shaking around I opened it back so I can rearrange things I was going to a laundromat cuz I had clothes stored that smelled Dusty and the security cop came up and asked me are you okay what are you doing? Gianna said to you need help and I said no cuz I didn't have my hood open I said no I'm going to the store but I needed to rearrange the stuff for my storage unit cuz it's rattling all over the place. But I thought that was kind of odd I was at a large Open Air Mall that had department stores and grocery stores in fast food places and I parked away from all of them at the back of the grocery parking lot next to the street and they still asked maybe it was right off the freeway and they get people stopping and doing things but there shouldn't be anything wrong with rearranging your van my parents traveled from Canada to United States and we all slept in a station wagon my mother was constantly rearranging things in parking lot just because we were on vacation and packing and repacking clothes and getting food out. And to me you could be paying for campgrounds every single night but you might want to rearrange things before you go into a store I thought it was a bit uncalled for.
Amazing how people view things differently. My thoughts and reaction would have been to smile and say, “Thanks for offering but I’m on a long-term road trip seeing America.”
He had good intentions and if you offended him then he might not offer assistance to someone who would really need and appreciate it.
Have been using the caravan with the black carpet for 2 years. Sometimes 100 miles per day with up to 7 different passengers each day. Started with a parts washing brush from napa auto. Still use it and have added small ryobi 18 volt shop vac. Stays so very clean now. Easy 5 min vaccum at the end every 2 days.
