Hong Kong's police chief is urging protesters barricaded inside the Polytechnic University to surrender peacefully. They've been holed up there since occupying the campus. Mainland China has issued a series of increasingly tough warnings against the demonstrators. And although Beijing has not directly intervened in the territory, authorities have targeted individual protesters. British consulate employee Simon Cheng says he was held and tortured at the border, and he is not the only one. Correspondent Matthias Bölinger met with one man who says he was arrested and beaten by police at the Hong Kong-China border crossing. To protect his identity, DW has revoiced the protester's remarks. Funny how many obviously Chinese accounts are here screeching. Funny how they manage to get around the great firewall onto youtube, almost as if they're Government sanctioned...

Hong Kong, Tibet, Xinjiang, Taiwan and others should be an independent country.
China is cancer on earth.
China should be removed on earth.
Otherwise, earth will face serious disasters.

There's no question about it
😢😱😢
In these countries free expression shines by its absence
They are like everyone else, (Rusia, North Korea, etc.) corruption at the top of the skin, don't admire them so much 😒 they keep the rich happier, the poor always be marginalized, everything depends on the thrust of each person, not all who they manage to be better they will be for bad money, there are nice people, people who put a lot of effort, they study for a better job, a better tomorrow.

I know a lot of people that crossed. Nobody ever have their phone searched. DW lost all credibility when they bring up Simon Cheung. China has already released video of him soliciting prostitution. And the report on the university was simply wrong or a lie. Come to think of it the whole video is a lie.

From an integrity point of view your reporter has a duty to correct himself. He suggested that the police, in sieging the universities is conducting counter-terrorism-like warfare tactics. His choice of words is misleading and incorrect. The police have been unrelenting but extraordinarily restraint. The students turned university campuses into Molotov Cocktail factories, blocked important roads and as such the police needed to respond and do so effectively. Under Carrie Lam's request they have performed the siege in a completely peaceful way. Not a single death occurred. Underaged students have been let go. How dare your reporter suggest these are counter-terrorism warfare tactics. Please DW, don't support such blatant misleading reporting.

Your reporter is conflating mainland Chinese law enforcement with HK policing. This is not acceptable. He should know better.

Of course. Only accusations and fault reports, lies can catch the readers attention. If this reporter report the truth, no one is gonna read this news. This guy was not tortured in China, he got arrested for soliciting
