“We envision fleets of smaller, multi-mission vessels, operating with surface warfare leadership. People talk about a 355-ship Navy, how about a 35,000-ship Navy?,” Maj. Gen. David Coffman, Director of Naval Expeditionary Warfare, told an audience at the Surface Naval Association Symposium. The U.S. Navy today is the strongest navy in the world. This is partly due to the fact that other nations simply can’t afford the colossal military spending required to field a navy that can compare. As a result, in addition to its record number of aircraft carriers, the U.S. Navy features equipment that one could only find in science fiction movies. Let's take a closer look at what kind of armament the U.S. installs on its ships. In this video, you'll learn what kind of missiles U.S. ships are armed with. We'll tell you about the most modern forms of long-range weapons, such as universal ship installations, innovative railguns, and powerful lasers; weapons that may soon change the face of warfare dramatically!

The life of a sailor can be difficult and taxing at times. Crew members often spend weeks or even months away from home and do not exactly lead a luxurious life while doing so. On an aircraft carrier, it is common knowledge that officers enjoy superior living conditions to those of the sailors. Why is there such a difference in the life of an officer and a sailor? ins vikrant new aircraft carrier, indian aircraft carrier, aircraft carrier takeoff, us aircraft carrier, uss gerald ford aircraft carrier. A member of the Navy who serves in the enlisted ranks is called a sailor, while officers are Members of the Navy or Navy Reserve who meet the minimum educational criteria of possessing a degree from a college or university that offers a four-year program and who have completed Officer Training are eligible to become commissioned officers. Officers have separate berthing areas from enlisted personnel which is commonly referred to as “officer country.” Officers have their private quarters in which they sleep. Mess decks are where junior sailors, leading seaman, and below sailors sleep. Senior sailors, including Petty Officers and higher, sleep in multi-berth rooms that are arranged according to their ranks, such as PO, CPO, and MCPO. The officers' quarters are all the same. Because it is situated over both a pull-out desk and a chest of drawers, the bunk bed is somewhat elevated. A compact cabinet and a foldable wash basin are located at the very end of the bed. #aircraftcarrier #usnavy #sailors

We begin in the colonial period of British rule where most of the coastal defenses were undertaken by jerry-rigged sloops and schooners while the Royal Navy handled the larger engagements. With the outbreak of the American Revolution however the Continental Congress was forced to create its own Continental Navy. This was composed of a small number of small frigates while the bulk of the American fleet actually consisted of privateers. The US fleet managed to score some wins at sea but it was the assistance of the French Navy which helped turn the tides of war. After the revolution, the new but bankrupt United States was forced to disband its navy. This had the effect of leaving it incredibly vulnerable. Over the following decades, the US Navy would slowly invest in rebuilding its fleet to combat threats from the Barbary Pirates and others who preyed on American shipping. The War of 1812 with the British saw the US score some early wins but saw it be utterly dominated at sea when the Royal Navy sailed in with a strong fleet that had just recently won the Battle of Trafalgar. The US Navy was expanded as a result of this embarrassment but it would be the conflict of the US Civil War which truly brought about a renaissance for American Fleet. During the conflict, the northern strategy at sea involved a blockade of the south which prompted an arms race between the Union Navy and the Confederate Navy. Ironclads and steam ships emerged from this evolutionary process and came dominate the waves. By the end of the war, the US Navy was the second largest in the world after the Royal Navy. The post war years however saw a decline in the Navy that would only be turned around with renewed conflict during the Spanish-American war. From this point on, the United States Navy was recognized as being critical to United States foreign policy. President Roosevelt would overseen it's renovation with the construction of the Great White Fleet which sailed around the world. However new technologies like the HMS Dreadnought risked making all contemporary warships obsolete. World War 1 came soon after and poured gasoline on the fire of innovation. Now the battle at sea extended to the air above the waves and the depths below it with the deployment of planes and submarines. Coming out of the First World War, the US Navy was recognized as an equal to the Royal Navy. The interwar years saw more funds poured into the American Fleet including the construction of new aircraft carriers. Word War 2 would see a massive overhaul of the US Navy as it battled the Imperial Japanese Navy across the Pacific. This conflict and the Cold War that followed solidified the power of the US Fleet and led it to become the force it is today. I hope you enjoyed this documentary on US Navy history! #History #Navy

The U.S. Navy has invested billions in the Littoral Combat Ship. But with unsolved problems and a murky mission set, will this close to shore surface combatant remain a key part of the Navy's strategy? The USS Freedom — the first Littoral Combat Ship, or LCS — was decommissioned after only 13 years in the fleet. This move appears to be at odds with the U.S. Navy’s goal of building up a force of 355 ships. The LCS is designed for littoral areas, or water closer to shore. Larger ships have trouble operating in these areas because of the shallow water. But engine issues, mission module problems and the evolving state of the world have put the future of the ship in choppy waters. Several older Littoral Combat Ships are also being decommissioned due to the high cost of upgrading them. “The bottom line is, it’s a zero-sum game. Every dollar you spend to keep those [LCS’] going is $1 you can spend on these other, I think, higher priorities” said Rep. Adam Smith, D-Wash., chairman of the House Armed Services Committee. To increase the vessel’s punch, the Navy has moved to add the Naval Strike Missile to some of the warships. It also decided to designate certain ships for specific missions, in contrast with the quick and swappable mission modules that were envisioned when the ship was first designed. There are two variants of the Littoral Combat Ship: the Independence-class, an all-aluminum trimaran design, and the Freedom-class, which is a more traditional steel hull with an aluminum superstructure. “Independence has been very successful deploying overseas to Singapore, in you know, in China’s backyard,” LCS Squadron Two commander Capt. David Miller said. “Starting in late 2019, the Freedom-class followed in the [U.S. Southern Command Area of Responsibility].” The Freedom-class was plagued by an engine issue that related to the combining gear, a complex piece of machinery that ensures that the multiple engines on the ship can function together. The Navy and Lockheed Martin are working to fix the problem in future ships that are waiting to be commissioned into the fleet, and those that have yet to be constructed. “In a nutshell, we are running on track to get to put that problem behind us and move on with the future of the freedom class,” Miller said. » Subscribe to CNBC: 🤍 » Subscribe to CNBC TV: 🤍 » Subscribe to CNBC Classic: 🤍 About CNBC: From 'Wall Street' to 'Main Street' to award winning original documentaries and Reality TV series, CNBC has you covered. How US Navy Sailors Shop Inside An Aircraft Carrier

Over six thousand sailors make up the crew of aircraft carriers living at sea for months. Amenities are available on board to ensure that these sailors are comfortable and highly motivated when handling operations on an aircraft carrier. Some of the amenities you would find on an aircraft carrier include a laundry room that can wash and dry 50,000 pounds of clothing per week, a dry cleaner, a uniform shop, dental and medical offices, a tobacco shop, barber shops, and even a grocery store! Sailors spend most of their time at sea and, as a result, do not have access to the same variety of conveniences and facilities you have daily. The United States Navy has practically made available to its sailors everything they would have access to if they were stationed on land. This is done to ensure that the sailors remain in the best possible physical condition and that their morale remains high enough to allow them to carry out their duties efficiently. One of such facilities is the grocery store. A grocery store is of high necessity on an aircraft carrier. Even if one disregards the fact that having junk food available will keep morale high, there is still a valid rationale for ships to include convenience stores. The sailors must keep a supply of their razors or hygiene goods and food. There are all kinds of things available. The Navy would provide some of these things to sailors onboard an aircraft carrier, but sometimes sailors might need certain things; they can easily get that in the store. The store averages around $10,000 per day with over 1050 transactions. #aircraftcarrier #usnavy #sailors

How Aircraft Carriers Make 17,000 Meals A Day For US Navy Sailors

An aircraft carrier may have more than 5,000 sailors on board. To feed all the sailors on an aircraft carrier, more than 17,000 meals must be prepared daily. There are more than 100 cooks on board, which seems like a culinary miracle, but is it? How are meals prepared for such a large number of sailors? When the ship first starts its deployment, there is a lot of fresh food on board. As the weeks go by and the fresh food becomes more and more depleted, frozen or canned food may be used. But that doesn't mean that the sailors won't get any fresh food at all. The ship has what is called an underway replenishment, the replenishment ship has a lot of fresh food on board that is delivered to the aircraft carrier while it is at sea and underway, and the crew starts the cycle all over again. Also when the ship enters port, it usually has fresh food ready to be stored for the crew. About 17,000 meals are produced daily by around 93 Culinary Specialists staff. These meals range from breakfasts served at 6 a.m. to midnight rations. Planning is essential to accomplish this goal; the ship's cooks adhere to a menu cycle that lasts for 15 days and receive resupplies at sea once every week, including both dry and fresh commodities. The 5,000 crew aboard an aircraft carrier can consume 1,600 pounds of chicken, 160 gallons of milk, 30 cases of cereal, and 350 pounds of lettuce in a single day. Everything is produced in enormous quantities. Cooks are required to constantly prepare meals, do various activities, and undergo training to learn new responsibilities. All galleys on carriers are sufficiently supplied. After every seven to ten days, a supply ship will bring between 400,000 and 1 million pounds of food. When there is a need for variation in the deliveries, it is not uncommon for regional foods to be included, such as feta cheese from Greece. #aircraftcarrier #usnavy #sailors

The US Navy New Deadliest Unmanned Fighter Is Coming

Hello Everyone, You're watching the channel US Military Times. Today we will show you The US Navy New Deadly Unmanned Fighter Plane. Unmanned systems, particularly autonomous ones, have to be the new normal in ever-increasing areas. For example, as good as it is, and as much as we need it and look forward to having it in the fleet for many years, the F-35 should be, and almost certainly will be, the last manned strike fighter aircraft the Department of the Navy will ever buy or fly, said Mabus. In addition, Mabus' comments seem to indicate that the Navy's conceptual developmental effort to envision a new carrier-launched fighter to replace the F/A-18 Super Hornet called the F/A-XX program may wind up engineering an unmanned platform for the mission. Creating a senior post focused on unmanned aviation is an important recognition by the Navy that this technology will do much to determine the service's future and requires senior leadership within the Department to ensure its successful utilization. The future of the Carrier Air Wing is linked with the development of an unmanned system able to execute long-range, penetrating strike missions in anti-access environments. But before continuing, don't forget to click subscribe and activate your notification bells so that together we can share interesting information from US Military Times.
