The UNSW Data Science Hub (uDASH) was formed with a single purpose: to bring together the full spectrum of data specialists from across UNSW to solve complex, real-world challenges. We translate the data generated by business, government and industry into a story and –from that story – a solution. Every day data is used to inform decisions: Given what I know, where do I go next? There is no shortage of data, yet the answers often remain less than apparent. uDASH understands this and understands that in dealing with data: the ideal solution is but the right question away. With countless ways to collaborate – by short and long-term projects, training and workshops, consultation and placements – the team at uDASH is ready with the questions, and your data already with the answers. UNSW has a national and international reputation for quality education and research in many fields of biological, geographical and geological sciences. The School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences (BEES) incorporates these environmentally relevant disciplines enabling the School to offer a comprehensive education in the traditional, mainstream disciplines of Biology, Geography and Geology. This also allows us to provide our students with opportunities for interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary studies, notably in the Marine and Environmental Sciences. 🤍 Our Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree programs are available to qualified students and cater for a wide array of interests and career paths. An additional 4th Year Honours Program is available to all students who have performed well in earlier years, including students from universities other than UNSW. There is almost no limit to the area of research in Master (MSc) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs.
Throughout human history, food science and technology has probably been one of the most important of all innovations. It is multidisciplinary, having its origins based in engineering, chemistry, and biology. It is impossible to know precisely how or when milk was discovered as a food source for adults, but at some point it was. Milk contains bacteria; bad ones can cause food poisoning, and they can double every twenty minutes depending on the temperature, moisture and nutrients. Good Bacteria makes the tastiest dairy foods. Like yogurt is made from lactobacillus. Paleolithic man discovered fire about one million years ago. When applied to cooking, food preservation techniques were born. Cooking food kills bacteria that can make people sick. Even today, food scientists are developing and applying new technologies to modern day food products. What Maths course is right for you? In this video Peter Brown, the First Year Director of Mathematics in the School of Mathematics and Statistics, UNSW, explains the differences between the courses MATH1011, MATH1131 and MATH1141. Which you course you take should depend on your background, and choosing the right course will smooth your way to a successful first year mathematics experience at UNSW. In particular, many students make the mistake of underestimating the difficulty and increased expectations involved with our Higher course MATH1141, and find that dropping down later in the term to MATH1131 complicates their experience. You should only be in the higher course if you have done Extension 2 or very well in Extension 1, and have a strong interest in mathematics. For all your engineering programs, MATH1131 and MATH1141 are equivalent.
