How to Make Simple and Gentle Soap - Perfect for Beginners! | Bramble Berry

This cold process recipe is designed for beginners. It has simple ingredients that are easy to work with. It's the perfect recipe to try cold process soap for the first time! 💮 Simple and Gentle Soap Project: 🤍 This recipe is made with coconut oil, palm oil, and olive oil. They’re commonly used because they complement each other well. Palm oil acts as a secondary lathering agent and hardens the soap, coconut oil is cleansing and produces big bubbles, and olive oil is moisturizing and gives the bars a silky feeling. 💮 Coconut Oil: 🤍 The soap is unscented and uncolored to keep things easy. Once you have a few batches under your belt, you can start experimenting with additives. For the mold, you can use almost any box or container that you have on hand. You'll just need to line it with freezer paper so the soap doesn't stick. 💮 Simple and Gentle Soap recipe: 8 oz. Coconut Oil (24%) 15 oz. Olive Oil (44%) 11 oz. Palm Oil (32%) 4.8 oz. Lye 11.2 oz. Distilled Water 💮 Key Terms: • Saponification: The chemical reaction that occurs when oil and lye molecules create new soap molecules. • Trace: The point when oils and lye water emulsify and begin to thicken. Once the soap has reached thin trace, it will continue to thicken as it sits. • Emulsify: When the oils and lye solution mix and don't separate. The term emulsify and trace are often used interchangeably. • Superfat: Any extra oil that's not turned into soap. • Gel phase: "Gelling" or "gel phase" refers to when the soap gets warm and gelatinous – up to 180° F. Gel phase results in brighter colors and a shinier, more translucent appearance. • Soda ash: When unsaponified lye reacts with naturally-occurring carbon dioxide in the air and creates a white ashy film on the bars. It only affects the way the soap looks, not the quality. Made this project? Tag us with #BrambleOn so we can see your creations! In this video I show you how to make homemade lemon turmeric soap. Thank you for watching❣️ 🟢Learn to formulate your own soap recipes here: 🤍 🟢Etsy shop: 🤍 🟢Citric acid information: When citric acid and sodium hydroxide lye (NaOH) are combined, sodium citrate is created. Sodium citrate works as a chelator in soap. A chelator traps metal ions such as calcium and magnesium that can be found in tap water. These metal contaminants can cause rancidity and soap scum in handmade soap. A chelator binds to these metals so that they can’t bind to the soap molecules. This way the soap won’t react with them and the soap's lather improves + shelf life increases. Citric acid does not lower the pH of soap. Instead it consumes some of the lye and increases the superfat. Add 6 g extra lye for every 10 g of citric acid added to a soap recipe if you want to keep the superfat % at the same level. How much citric acid should be added to soap? Usage rate in bar soap is 1-2% of the oil weight. How to use citric acid Add citric acid to the distilled water and dissolve completely before adding the lye, or make a separate solution of citric acid and distilled water and add to the oils. If you want to customize soap down to the last ingredient, cold process is a great option. Cold process soap is made by combining oils and sodium hydroxide lye. That causes a chemical reaction called saponification. Melt and pour soap has already gone through that process. Once you find your perfect recipe you can start getting creative with the designs. You get to choose the oils, colorants, scents, and more. In this video, we go over the basic tools and ingredients you need to get started. We also go over safety when working with lye, how to make soap, and how to clean up. Find more resources below! This is a great recipe for a bar of soap that everyone in the family can use. It is moisturizing, has lots of lather, and is gentle on the skin. If you want a printable version of the recipe, grab it here: 🤍 Beginner Soap Makers, Read This First: 🤍 The Best Cold Process Soap Recipe: 11 oz. coconut oil 9 oz. olive oil 9 oz. palm oil 2 oz. sweet almond oil 4 oz. castor oil 4 oz. avocado oil 2 oz. mango butter 5.83 oz of lye 10-15 oz. water 3 T. of fragrance (for a strong scent, vary this to your preferences) Instructions: 1. Using a digital scale, measure out the lye and water in separate glass containers. Combine them by adding the lye to the water. (Remember: snow floats on the lake.). Stir until the lye dissolves. The temperature will shoot up. Place this in a safe place to cool. 2. While the lye solution is cooling, measure out the oils and butters and combine them in a large stainless pot. Melt them over low heat and heat them up to 130-140 degrees. Set them aside to cool. 3. After 2 hours, check the temperature of both solutions. They should be around 110 degrees. (A range of 100-120 is fine.). If not, allow them to cool longer. 4. Prepare your mold and measure out any fragrance or color you will be adding. (For best blending of colors, mix some color into a few drops of melted oils.). If using sodium lactate, add it to the lye water at this time. 5. Pour the water and lye solution into the pot with the melted oils. Blend with a stick blender until thin trace is reached. The soap batter will noticeable thicken and a trail of soap will sit on top of the liquid rather than immediately sinking in. (This will take about 1 minute.). Add the color and fragrance and stir by hand. 6. Immediately pour the soap batter into the mold. Place in a turned off oven or wrap with blankets to insulate the soap. 7. After 24 hours of curing, unmold and cut into bars. The bars may seem slightly soft but will harden considerably during the curing process. Allow to cure at least 3 weeks in a well-ventilated place. RESIZED 30 OUNCE BATCH for smaller molds: Almond oil: 1.46 ounces Avocado oil: 2.92 ounces Castor Oil: 2.92 ounces Coconut Oil: 8.05 ounces Mango butter: 1.46 ounces Olive Oil: 6.58 ounces Palm Oil: 6.58 ounces Lye: 4.25 ounces Water: 7-11 ounces Hi there and welcome to my channel, Heart’s Content Farmhouse. ✅Homemade lemon turmeric soap🍋 Natural cold process soap making w/ recipe 🤍 ↳ When citric acid and sodium hydroxide lye (NaOH) are combined, sodium citrate is created. 🍋🎄🍋BACKGROUND MUSIC🍋🎄🍋 🤍

Super simple hot process soap making technique

🟢Get the soap formulator’s workbook here → 🤍 Try this simple hot process soap making technique if you are a beginner hot process soap maker, have had issues with hot process soap in the past, or just want an easy method that works every time. With this technique, you don’t need to stir the soap while it’s cooking, you don’t have to worry about the soap reaching all kinds of different stages and you’ll clearly see when it’s done, so you won’t need to perform a pH test. The soap is cooked slowly on low heat on a double boiler, so you don’t need a crock pot for this hot process soap technique. Benefits of hot process soap: ○ Hot process soap is more gentle to fragrance and essential oils, since the lye has already been neutralized when the scent is added. You might need less fragrance as a result and you don't need to worry about acceleration. ○ Hot processing soaps can cut down on cure time. (Personally, I still prefer to cure hot process soaps for about 4 weeks because of the high water content.) ○ Hot process soaps can have a different feel than cold process soaps. ○ Hot process soaps have a more rustic, unrefined look. This can be a pro or con depending on your personal preferences :) ○ You don't have to worry about getting soda ash with hot process soap. ○ The clean up is much easier. Thank you for watching! Music by Sayuri Hayashi Egnell & Rikard From Please wear proper safety equipment when making soap. Super simple hot process soap recipe: Recipe calculated with: 🤍 Oils: 150 g coconut oil (30%) 75 g shea butter (15%) 25 g cocoa butter (5%) 50 g avocado oil (10%) 25 g castor oil (5%) 175 g olive oil (35%) 168 g distilled water 10 g citric acid Sodium hydroxide lye: when adding citric acid: 76.3 g without citric acid: 70.3 g (29.4 % lye concentration, 5 % superfat) 2 tbsp dried spinach 10 ml fragrance oil (I used 'green tea' by gracefruit) Cure the soap for about 4 weeks before using it on your skin. ○ Citric acid information When citric acid and sodium hydroxide lye (NaOH) are combined, sodium citrate is created. Soap making equipment* ○ Safety glasses - 🤍 ○ Gloves - 🤍 ○ Braun multiquick stick blender (black colored version) - 🤍 ○ Infrared thermometer - 🤍 ○ Digital scale - 🤍 ○ High precision scale - 🤍 ○ Spatulas - 🤍 ○ Funnel pitchers for easy pouring - 🤍 ○ Silicone molds: ○ Single cavity mold - 🤍 ○ Silicone loaf mold - 🤍 ○ Small wooden soap mold with silicone lining - 🤍 ○ Cafe de savon wire cutter - 🤍 ○ Guide - 🤍 ○ Swiss star stainless steel vegetable peeler for beveling soaps - 🤍 ○ Mini mixer - 🤍 Recommended reading: ○ 🤍 As an amazon associate I earn from qualifying purchases. *amazon links are affiliate links.
