Took some time with the warm weather finally hitting Ontario to test the casting distance on the new Shimano SLX baitcaster. *NOTE: I MADE A MISTAKE BY SAYING 100 YARDS AFTER THE 120 FOOT CAST.... BRAIN FART ON MY END! Here are the details: Rod - SLX 7'2" Medium Heavy, Fast Action Reel - SLX 150 Line - Power Pro Super8Slick V2 - 30 lb test Bait - 1/2 oz Swim Jig with Trailer Overall, the SLX casts better than any reel that used the old sliding pin VBS system. All the way down to 1 brake, the spool never got loose and distance was very impressive with over 160 feet casting a 1/2 swim jig. #FishShimano

I'm pleasantly surprised to do this review and unboxing and tell you this fishing reel doesn't suck!!! I picked up a new fishing reel from Tackle Warehouse - the Shimano SLX 150 HG. This is the lowest level of Shimano's SLX offering and a true budget fishing reel. I've always been a fan of the Shimano Curado and Chronarch however I was looking for a cheaper yet solid utility reel to pair up with a lot of fishing rods. I've fished the reel for a little over a month and I'm stoked - it feels solid like the old Curados and I've been using braid and a heavy action fishing rod with it trying to really put the reel to the test. I'd recommend going with a 7:2:1 speed for basically all fishing techniques with the exception of fishing a crankbait. Want to learn more about the fishing rod or my Shimano SLX? Shimano SLX casting reel is definitely worth $100. This Shimano reel is even better than some other Shimano reels of a higher price point. The Shimano SLX is now my favorite $100 Shimano Reel. Let me know if you like the Shimano SLX and if you think the Shimano SLX is worth $100. Shimano SLX is the original SLX reel that came out, this reel was followed by the Shimano SLX DC and Shimano SLX XT. Shimano SLX regular is still my favorite freshwater reel out of this product lineup.
