Vladimir Putin critic Alexei Navalny is fighting for his life in hospital amid claims his tea was spiked with poison. The lawyer was heard screaming in agony as he fell seriously ill on a flight to Moscow. Video shows fierce Kremlin foe Navalny, 44, being stretchered from the aircraft to a waiting ambulance in the Siberian city of Omsk. He was unconscious, according to his press secretary, Kira Yarmysh, who suspects poison was added to his tea. He was rushed to hospital with an initial diagnosis of “toxic poisoning”. Earlier Navalny was snapped drinking from a cup at a cafe at Tomsk airport before catching his flight. The alleged poisoning comes two years after the novichok attack on ex-Russian spy Sergei Skripal, 67, and his 34-year-old daughter Yulia, by Putin-backed GRU agents in Salisbury, Wiltshire. And it comes 14 years after Alexander Litvinenko - another ex-spy turned Putin critic - died after his tea was poisoned with radioactive polonium-210 in London. How Alexei Navalny became Putin's greatest threat

Navalny's movement is unlike any in recent history. Subscribe to our channel! 🤍 In 2006, a lawyer named Alexei Navalny started a blog where he wrote about corruption in his home country of Russia. It’s the most prominent problem under the regime of Vladimir Putin, who has ruled Russia since 2000. Putin has systematically taken over the country’s independent media, oligarchy, elections, and laws to cement his own power and wield corruption to his advantage. That’s what Navalny set out to expose. And in 2010, he published a groundbreaking investigation into a state-owned transportation company, Transneft, which was funneling state money into the hands of its executives. The post launched Navalny into politics. By 2016, he had become the face of Russia’s opposition movement, run for mayor, and was running for president against Putin himself. Navalny was unifying Russia’s opposition like no politician had before. That’s why the Kremlin tried to kill him. Navalny survived the assassination attempt, launching a movement never before seen in Russia. The most prominent opposition figure to Russian President Vladimir Putin, Alexei Navalny, has been found guilty of fraud and contempt of court. He has been sentenced to nine years in a "strict regime penal colony" in a case rejected by supporters as fabricated. Navalny was detained when he returned to Russia last year, after surviving a poisoning he blamed on the Kremlin. He is already serving three and a half years in jail for breaking bail conditions while in hospital. Prosecutors accused him of stealing $4.7m (£3.5m) of donations given to his now banned organisations, including his anti-corruption foundation. Delivering her verdict, Judge Margarita Kotova said Navalny had carried out "the theft of property by an organised group". Please subscribe HERE //bit.ly/1rbfUog #Ukraine #Russia #BBCNews
