In this video, I make Brake Rotors from scratch auto of Lead, Aluminium, and Copper alloy. I chose these metals because they are very different one to each other. It was relatively easy to cast Lead and aluminum. The tricky part was to cast copper because of its height melting point (1084.62 °C, 1984.32 °F). I didn't know what to expect when I tested the brake disc made of copper alloy. I thought it would melt, but it didn't. For the Rotor made from aluminum, I melted cans made from aluminum alloy Al 3004 / Al 5182 and some Grounding wire Al5052. I was not surprised that it is brittle and breaks into pieces subjected to massive forces. Lead is very soft and highly malleable. It made a spectacular show in our video; because of the friction, the Disk started melting, spurting like a stream, and solidified instantly before falling to the ground. Rotors Weigh: - Original cast iron 3,9 kg/8.5lb - Lead 8,2kg/18lb - Aluminium 1,7kg/3.7lb - Copper 5,6 kg/12.3lb The moral of the story: Don't make brake Rotors out of Lead :) Enjoy! » contact us at contact🤍carhax.com, 🤍, 🤍 WARNING: This video is only for entertainment purposes. Nowadays an anti lock braking system is used in almost all modern vehicles. This system prevents accidents like this, where you lose control of the steering as you apply the brakes. With ABS you will be able to steer the vehicle properly and it also reduces the braking distance. What is ABS? How is it able to prevent accidents due to the braking? We will explore these questions in this video. Voice over artist : 🤍 Be a Learn Engineering supporter or contributor : 🤍 instagram : 🤍 Twitter : 🤍 Telegram : 🤍

ABS vs EBD vs BA | How These Brakes are Different Than Others?

ABS vs EBD vs BA | How are these brakes different than others? References (Please check out these channels also): [Mazda Australia] Anti-lock Braking system - 🤍 [Mercedes-Benz] Active Braking Assist - 🤍 [crospotter13] ACTIVE brake assist test & demonstration -🤍 [Bosch Mobility Solutions] safe braking with Bosch antilock braking system (ABS) - 🤍 [Rambling Adventures] How Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) works - 🤍 ABS (Anti-lock Braking System): As the name implies, the ABS prevents the car wheels from locking when the car brakes suddenly in certain situations. These brakes allow the driver to fully control the car's steering when maximal force is applied to the brake pedal. Generally, when the driver suddenly applies brakes to a moving car, there is a high probability that the wheels will get stuck due to the sudden brake force and slide on the road. This happens because the momentum of the velocity of the car carries it, and the wheels are not able to covert that into the rotational movement because of brakes. ABS, or an Anti-Lock Braking System, is a piece of safety equipment that prevents the wheels of a vehicle from locking up under emergency, panic, or harsh braking conditions. EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution): While ABS is the overall automotive braking technology, EBD is just a part of the overall system. However, these elements are equally important in reinforcing the safety department of the vehicles. The EBD is responsible for distributing the braking power to all wheels of the car. Also helps in regulating and applying the braking force needed to each wheel according to the road condition, vehicle's load, and speed. The EBD ensures how much braking force is needed by each wheel and then applies the same to achieve the most suitable braking impact. Brake Assist (BA): Also known as Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) is another piece of car braking technology. As the name suggests is responsible for assisting the driver in an emergency stop situation. The braking system will work more swiftly when there is sudden braking if it is equipped with the BA feature. This feature aims to ensure that the brakes are applied in case of an emergency if the driver cannot respond quickly enough. This happens often because, in case of sudden braking, the driver cannot press the brake pedal fully. However, an average driver isn’t actually fast enough for a situation like this, where a millisecond of delay can translate to catastrophe. This is where Braking Assist steps in. Why You Shouldn't Buy The Cheapest Brake Pads For Your Car 5 Different Brake Pads, ranging from $20 to OE, undergo four tests. Sponsored By NRS Brakes - 🤍 What are the best brake pads? Are expensive brake pads better than cheaper brake pads? Are cheap brake pads dangerous? In this video, we'll compare brake pads ranging from $20 to $90, all for the front brake pads on the exact same vehicle. Performance testing will compare how the brake pads do when they experience high temperatures. Corrosion testing will determine how well the pads resist rust in harsh winter conditions. Shear testing will see how well the friction material is attached the the backing plate. Finally, noise testing will determine which brake pads are the quietest. When you walk into a parts store, you'll often see different tiers of brake pad prices. This video's goal is to determine if you get what you're paying for with those different brake pads. Five different pads will be tested. $20, $40, $60, NRS, and original equipment pads for the same car will all undergo the same tests described above, using industry standardized tests. 🤍 Most cars utilize a disc brake system. The two parts that receive the most wear are your brake pads and rotors. These parts should be inspected regularly. This short animation shows how brake systems work and contains details about basic brake system components. ACDelco recommends that your brake system is visually inspected every 3,000 miles. Ask your trusted ACDelco certified technician to inspect the brakes during your next oil change. For more information, check out ACDelco's Automotive Systems Guide 🤍 🤍 - Learn more about ACDelco 🤍 - Locate a Parts Retail Store 🤍 - Find a Professional Service Center Did you know the average driver applies their brakes over 200 times a day? Your brakes are the most critical system on your vehicle. There are approximately forty parts in your vehicles braking system. Did you know when you apply your brakes hydraulic brake fluid is pushed from the master cylinder through lines into the caliper. That caliper then squeezes the brake pads against the rotors, creating friction, which slows and stops your vehicle. Brake pads are made up of fibrous material that gradually wears away each time you apply your brakes. The rotors are metal discs, which also wear, but at a slower rate. In addition to normal wear, brake pads can become loose, cracked or broken, and disc rotors can become grooved, pitted or warped from the continual heat and pressure from the braking. To ensure safety and reliability, regular brake inspections should be part of your vehicle’s ongoing regular maintenance.

How Hybrid Car Brakes Work

Here’s an in-depth look into the braking system of the Toyota Prius Hybrid. Hybrid cars cannot use traditional vacuum assisted brake boosters. This is because when the internal combustion engine is shut off, there is no vacuum available to power the brakes. In addition, hybrids use regenerative braking by turning the electric motor in the transmission into a generator to charge the battery. Thus the computer must control the braking pressure applied to the calipers to balance it with the force from regen braking for optimal efficiency and seamless operation to the driver. A hybrid car’s brakes implores the use of a traditional brake fluid reservoir and master cylinder. The master cylinder takes fluid flow, generated from the brake pedal from the driver and sends it to the stroke simulator. The simulator is cylinder that fills with brake pressure and provides the driver feedback of where the brake pedal is and how much force to apply – although it is still not mechanically linked to the force being applied to the wheels. The ABS actuator has an electric motor that drives a hydraulic pump that fills an accumulator. This provides the brake pressure to the apply and release solenoids that lead to each brake caliper. The computer can use this setup to completely electronically control the braking system based on the pressure sensed from the driver’s input and the caliper’s output as a closed loop control system. It also interfaces with the hybrid regenerative system through the CANBUS so the braking forces are related to what the driver has requested. The fluid from the master cylinder is cut off completely during this operation, and are left in the fail open position for manual operation of the front brakes in the event of no power. ABS ON vs ABS OFF | What's Really the Difference?

We tested braking with and without ABS, with the same car, on the same surface, with the same driver - all to see what the real difference is. We also tested this in a straight line test, a curve braking test, and a braking lane change. ABS systems are immensely effective in road cars now, but what happens when you disable this? Is the difference really that big? Today we have set out three challenges to test this out. And I’m going to drive the same car, on the same surface, both with and without ABS - to see exactly what the difference is. And to be honest - the difference really surprised me. ⭕ Superkart vs Ferrari 488 Pista 🤍 ⭕ No ABS Formula 1 Car vs Tesla Drag Race and Braking test! 🤍 ABS is enormously clever, in that it extracts almost the maximum braking potential from the tyres - whilst not relying on the driver to control the grip. I’m a pro-racing driver, and many of the race cars I’ve driven, like Formula 1 cars or Radicals, don’t have ABS. But despite this you can actually brake much more effectively than with ABS. It’s called threshold-braking, and it’s where you aim to press the brake pedal as hard as possible, but whilst staying just below the threshold at which the tyre will lock up. But the important difference here is that on a track, you do many many laps straight after one another. So you know the turn, and you know the grip level. But what about on the road? If you’re taking a turn, you often haven’t driven it before. Or if you have, you don’t know the exact conditions at that point in time, or if there is now something in the way. So ABS replicates a pro-driver, but on any surface, in any condition, irrespective of the driver’s skill. It’s very clever, so let me show you how it works.
