Reports of a famed Canadian sniper’s demise at the hand of Russian forces in Ukraine have proved premature. The man known as “Wali” and dubbed by some online news sites as the “deadliest sniper in the world” spoke with the Star in a video interview Tuesday in which he said he had been “the last to learn” of his own death. In addition to being alive, Wali disputes the idea that he is the world’s greatest sniper, pointing out that while he’s good, there are some “amazing” snipers in Ukraine. “You know, a month ago, I was a coder, programming. I don’t have any recent sniper training,” he said. He stays in shape while back in Canada, but it’s hard to be the best when you’re not training every single week, he said. Read more: 🤍

As fighting between Russia and Ukraine showed no signs of abating, one of the world’s best snipers, ‘Wali’, arrived in war-torn Ukraine earlier this week to fight the Russian forces. A former sniper of the Canadian forces, Wali, known as the world's deadliest snipers is known to have deliver 40 kills on a productive day. Wali came to Ukraine after he heard the appeals of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Wali reached Ukraine on March 4 along with three former Canadian soldiers. The 40-year-old Quebec soldier, who asked that his real name not be used, left in early March to join Ukrainian forces on the front lines. He said Russians fired at him for three days, but that he had returned from his first mission near Kyiv unscathed, despite at least one close call with what he believes was a tank. “I was in this amazing apartment — it would look the same in Toronto downtown, an espresso machine and nice TV,” he said. “I was standing in the kitchen and I saw the huge fireball. The world's deadliest sniper has reportedly joined the Ukraine army to fight the Russian invasion. Sniper ‘Wali’ said he felt “like a firefighter who hears the alarm ringing” after Ukrainian President called on foreigners to join the war. Wali reportedly holds the world record for the longest confirmed kill of 3.5 kilometre when he shot down an ISIS fighter in Mosul, Iraq. Contact inquiries🤍nextanimation.com to license this or any News Direct video A member of Canada’s Joint Task Force 2 reportedly killed an Islamic State militant in Iraq last month with a kill shot fired from a staggering distance of 3,450 meters, according to Toronto’s Globe and Mail newspaper. The Canadian snipers work in pairs, usually with their observer partners. The sniper was using a McMillan TAC-50 sniper rifle, which is the standard long-range sniper of the Canadian military. The shot was fired from an elevated position. The bullet took less than 10 seconds to hit the target, an IS militant who was more than 3,540 meters away. “The shot in question actually disrupted a Daesh [Islamic State] attack on Iraqi security forces. Instead of dropping a bomb that could potentially kill civilians in the area, it is a very precise application of force and because it was so far way, the bad guys didn’t have a clue what was happening,” a military source told the Globe and Mail. The name of the sniper who set the record and the location of the kill shot were not revealed for operational security reasons. The shot is now the longest confirmed kill shot in military history. This record was previously held by British sniper Craig Harrison who shot his target from 2,475 meters away. Two Canadian snipers, Rob Furlong and Arron Perry, are now in third and fourth place. They shot their targets from 2,430 and 2,310 meters respectively.
