More than 70 million people worldwide have eating disorders. 20% of those people will die without treatment; 10% seek help. When Kristie Amadio returned to rural New Zealand after intensive residential eating disorder treatment in California, she had to overcome a massive gap in the support available in order to fully recover. In this informative, emotional, and passionate talk, eating disorder recovery coach Kristie Amadio shares how we can do eating disorder recovery differently so that more people can live a fully recovered life. Kristie Amadio is founder and CEO of Recovered Living, which offers which offers online eating disorder recovery coaching as well as 24/7 live-in support to people both domestically and internationally. After 14 years of battling her eating disorder and seeking treatment in both Australia and New Zealand—where she was told she was ‘chronic’ and should expect to struggle with food and body image issues for the rest of her life—Kristie flew to America for intensive treatment and made a full recovery. Kristie was stunned by the gap and unequal access to support and resources both here and overseas, so she resolved to make cost effective support available to everyone, no matter where they lived. By working online and living with people in recovery all around the world, Kristie Amadio is adding a new dimension to the platform used to treat eating disorders. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at 🤍

TWO THERAPISTS DISCUSS THEIR BULIMIA RECOVERY – Today I'm joined by Harriet Frew AKA The Eating Disorder Therapist. I've been hoping to get Harriet on the channel for awhile to talk about her history with bulimia nervosa and share her wisdom. Both of us became psychotherapists specialising in eating issues and our work is influenced enormously by our own experience. We talk about what it's like to struggle with bulimia, how we see recovery and the similarities it has with binge eating disorder. Excuse the lack of eloquence in this interview (me, not Harriet). I seem to be having a day where I can't get my words out! this past week was national eating disorder awareness week and this is something i feel strongly for. at 15 i was diagnosed with anorexia nervosa & while i "physically" recovered, i never psychologically did. i continued poor habits and went through continuous cycles of binge and restrict. during quarantine i started to become obsessed again. back in november, i started to fall back into my old habits. in december, i wanted everything to disappear so my pain would end with it. every morning began with crying. i hadnt felt so low in so long. i hadnt felt so alone in so long. so i started to journal. i journaled every. single. feeling. i turned my journal entires into a script. i began to film my little victories and losses. i started to document my journey. through therapy and seeing a nutritionist and having a better support system, i found a life so worth living. there is SO much to look forward to. a life that doesnt revolve around starving, binging, etc. i learned that not everything i do, needs to be shown online. i can recovery in silence. i can grow in silence. and i can share my story after. thank you to anyone who has been patient with me and my channel. losing myself made me lose so much more with it. thank you. while im still not recovered entirely, i am at a way way better spot and this is advice i need to keep pushing. if you're looking for a sign to recover, this is it. 0:22 - i think this was the first day i realized it wasn't all in my head 02:28 - documenting my thoughts when i wake up 02:45 - thanksgiving dinner. one of the worst days mentally. 03:38 - my dad came to see me, he was worried and my heart shattered 04:55 - my first therapy session 05:15 - another rough day. decided to document one of my many breakdowns 05:57 - this is how i fell in love. this is how i recovered. 💫 SOCIAL MEDIA 💫 💛 instagram: 🤍 💛 twitter: 🤍 💛 spotify: 🤍 💛 vsco: 🤍 💛 snapchat: 🤍 💫MERCH💫 💛buy it here: 🤍 💫 BUSINESS ONLY EMAIL 💫 💛 vanessanagoya🤍select.co 💫 MUSIC 💫 💛  intro: feelings - lauv 💛 outro: 3:15 - bazzi (cover by paige, amelia, reva, and i) I love you & thrive today💛🌙🌟 -Vanessa Nagoya *I DO NOT OWN ANY MUSIC FROM THIS VIDEO*

PP Beginning of Bulimia Recovery VS Now is not the same

What you do in recovery is not what you’ll do at the end of recovery or out of recovery. The way you eat. The way you process emotions.  The way you handle urges and the difficulty level they feel like will change.  The thoughts you think, how you perceive things, the way you address life without your eating disorder will be different.  The problem is people think in the beginning of their recovery whatever they are doing, the good and the bad will be forever. That they have to handle incredibly difficult urges every single day.  That they will always eat like they’ve just been starving for 12 months.  No… they won’t. So please listen to this episode if you’re worried that whatever you’re doing will be forever. It won’t and thinking that may create self-sabotage at the exact point where you need to keep going a little bit longer. 💜⚡️Private Bulimia Recovery Coaching: 🤍 💜⚡️FREE COURSE SIGN-UP: 🤍 💛📓 Bulimia Recovery Course (NEW Content): 🤍 💛📺 My Instagram: 🤍 💛🤓 How to Not Binge and Purge: 🤍 💛📓 Free Course: 🤍 ⭐️🎙 Listen on Itunes: 🤍 ⭐️🎙 Listen on Spotify: 🤍 #bulimiarecovery #bingeeatingrecovery DISCLAIMER   This recording is not nor is intended to be utilized as medical advice or a medical diagnosis. INSTAGRAM: 🤍instagram.com/charlyemmalouise I receive lots of messages from people about Bulimia recovery and 'how to recover'. I WISH I could answer this in a one word sentence but the simple and unfortunate truth is that I cannot. Recovery is so complex and whatsmore unique to each individual that it is impossible to reduce it down to one method. In this video series, I will be going through a number of concepts, ideas, harsh truths and realities that I believe to be of critical importance when you are trying to recover from Bulimia. In video number one, I talk about the importance of getting used to feeling uncomfortable. Bulimia recovery is ANYTHING but comfortable and if you are feeling comfortable in eating disorder recover you are probably not doing enough to challenge your beliefs and/or your behaviours. I am awfully sorry for the weird background noise in this video. I recommend watching without headphones for a more comfortable auditory experience and I will try and sort myself out a new microphone for next time. Sending lots of love and strength to everyone out there who needs it. Remember: EVERYONE thinks that they are going to be 'that one person' who can't recover. This is bullshit and if you succumb to this false belief then you face living a miserable, eating disordered, obsessive, messy life forever! I too thought I could never recover and in fact had my suicide all planned out, but here I am, several years later, rolling with the punches of life like a boss, never returning to my old behaviours of restricting my food in order to maintain an unhealthily skinny body (anorexia) or binging in a supermarket toilet and puking in a bin on the street on the way home (bulimia). If I can do it, I truly believe that ANYONE can. Hope you enjoy the video, Charly

Sometimes the downfalls or the excitement of recovery can make it less than amazing. In bulimia recovery, you may experience everything going extremely well which is... oddly uncomfortable. This can make people turn back. Or you experience a lack of enjoyment for anything. Overwhelming apathy.  In today's episode, I discuss what it's actually like during recovery and after, how it's not always perfect, why this is normal, and why it's worth it.  💜⚡️Private Bulimia Recovery Coaching: 🤍 💛📓 Bulimia Recovery Course (NEW Content monthly): 🤍 💛📺 My Instagram: 🤍 💛🤓 How to Not Binge and Purge: 🤍 💛📓 Free Course: 🤍 ⭐️🎙 Listen on Itunes: 🤍 ⭐️🎙 Listen on Spotify: 🤍 #bulimiarecovery #bingeeatingrecovery DISCLAIMER   This recording is not nor is intended to be utilized as medical advice or a medical diagnosis. BULIMIA RECOVERY//How to recover no.2: dealing with urges

INSTAGRAM: 🤍instagram.com/charlyemmalouise Another highly requested video is how to fight urges during Bulimia recovery. Everyone will have a different experience with this and have different tools that work for them. In this video I share some of the things that helped me during my journey from binging and purging 15 x a day to recovery. This is the biggest challenge of recovery. Bulimia is a strong addictive force and it is very difficult to break the cycle. From my experience, you need to start by taking baby steps and go up from there. Accept that you are not going to go from b/p'ing all day every day to not doing it at all overnight. Work on reducing the frequency first and eventually, if you are mentally strong and determined enough, you will be able to stop. It takes time though, so be patient and be gentle with yourself. If you slip up, do not give yourself a hard time about it! This just paves the way for another slip up and this is how small slip ups become big relapses. Hope the video helps. Charly xox
