Ethnic divides still exist in some neighborhoods in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In a school in Travnik, a fence separates Muslim and Croat pupils. Due to a high volume of comments that are not in accordance with our netiquette policy, the comment section for this video has been disabled. For more information, click the following link: 🤍 Amela is a Muslim. She went to school in Travnik and grew up with this ethnic segregation. Bosnia’s constitutional court declared the "two schools under one roof policy" unconstitutional in 2012. But this policy is still practiced in everyday life, even though nobody calls it that anymore. It’s not just in schools that the distance between the ethnic groups is visible. The parents also foster ethnic segregation from their neighbors. It’s always been this way - Amela will of course marry a Muslim. The country is home to Bosnian Muslims, Bosnian Croats and Bosnian Serbs. They say they live together but on closer inspection they just live side by side. Very few would accept a spouse from a different ethnic group. _ Exciting, powerful and informative – DW Documentary is always close to current affairs and international events. The peace agreement that holds together Bosnia-Herzegovina is under threat from a rise in Serb nationalism. More than three years of war in the 1990s devastated Bosnia after the fall of Yugoslavia. Tens of thousands of people were killed and hundreds of thousands were driven from their homes by ethnic cleansing. The war ended in 1995 with a peace treaty that split the country into two parts: a Bosniak Muslim and Croat federation - and the other a Serb entity called Republika Srpska. Now an ongoing political crisis and the resurgence of Serb nationalism under Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodic, is stirring up fears of renewed conflict. Behind Bars Season 3 - Episode 4: Zenica Prison, Bosnia and Herzegovina | 4K Prison Documentary Beyond Borders: USA - Inside American Immigration: 🤍 Zenica prison – is the biggest and toughest prison in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The eighteen eighty-six fortress still stands to this day. The prison has survived all kinds of internal and external threats: rebellions, escape attempts, both world wars and the Bosnian war in the 1990s. Zenica has room for almost a thousand inmates. From minor offenses such as robbery to war criminals, there are currently five hundred and fifty prisoners behind bars. They are to be resocialized into three groups and reintegrated into society. Group C is the most dangerous man in Bosnia and is under constant control in solitary confinement. Group A, on the other hand, enjoys privileges such as a job and even weekend leave. Those who follow the rules in Zenica are allowed to have visitors three times a month. Anyone who resists and protests only gets 60 minutes of visiting time per month. One of the detainees is Vikovic Dzevad, who stole 1,800 Euros from a pensioner and has been imprisoned in Zenica for the second time. The prison police are on duty every day to secure Bosnia's largest prison within the five and a half meter high walls. Extraordinary: None of them carry a firearm. Therefore, discipline and physical fitness is an absolute must that the prison administration regularly reviews. One of the prison cops is Boris Soko, who provides security in track four, and has already survived an attempt on his life. This episode of Behind Bars tells not only his story, but also that of the inmates, and the environment of the prison and shows in impressive pictures how life behind bars works. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Subscribe Free Documentary Channel for free: 🤍 Instagram: 🤍 Facebook: 🤍 Twitter: 🤍 ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ #FreeDocumentary #Documentary #BehindBars ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Free Documentary is dedicated to bringing high-class documentaries to you on YouTube for free. Could Bosnia spiral back into civil war? The scars of Bosnia’s devastating civil war have never fully healed but, for years, this divided country has kept a fragile peace. Now, with Ukraine on fire and Europe on high alert for Russian meddling elsewhere across the continent, the mood is increasingly uneasy. For over two decades, Bosnia has kept a fragile peace after a devastating civil war. But with Europe on high alert as it awaits Putin's next move, the mood in the nation is uneasy. Could war return? Subscribe to Journeyman here: 🤍 Peace in Bosnia is hanging in the balance. The nation is led by three presidents - and the Bosnian Serb member of the presidency, Milorad Dodik, has threatened to secede the Serb Republic from Bosnia. Meanwhile, the Bosnian Serb army has been carrying out drills, bringing back painful memories of the siege of Sarjevo. Some theorize that outside influence may be at play: 'There’s longstanding support coming from Moscow for Mr. Dodik', notes EU ambassador Johann Sattler. Meanwhile, Russian affiliated paramilitary groups have appeared in the Serb Republic: 'These organizations represent themselves as humanitarian organizations. They have very strong links with Russia', notes genocide expert Hikmet Karčić. 'Russia does not want any country of the Western Balkans to join NATO or the European Union', says Croat presidency member Željko Komšić. The Bosnian War was one of the deadliest European conflicts since the Second World War. Tens of thousands were killed, and around two million people displaced, between 1992 and 1995. Bosnia-Herzegovina is a stunningly beautiful country. But it is also a country mired in difficulties. In the midst of ongoing constitutional deadlock, there has been growing debate about the future of Republika Srpska (RS), the Bosnian Serb entity that was created under the 1995 Peace Agreement. In recent years, Bosnian Serb leaders have increasingly threatened to break away and form their own independent state. This in turn has led to growing calls by many Bosniaks for RS to be abolished. So, what is the answer? Hello and welcome! My name is James Ker-Lindsay. Here I take an informed look at International Relations with a focus on territorial conflicts, secession, independence movements and new countries. If you like what you see, please do subscribe. If you want more, including exclusive content and benefits, consider becoming a channel member. Many thanks! SUBSCRIBE FOR FREE 🤍 SUPPORT THE CHANNEL 🤍 In 1995, the Dayton Peace Agreement brought a final end to the bitter and bloody three-way war between the Bosnian Muslims (now known as Bosniaks), Bosnian Serbs and Bosnian Croats. To do this, it saw the Serbian breakaway state of Republika Srpska reintegrated into Bosnia-Herzegovina alongside the Muslim-Croat Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina. But while at first the new arrangement seemed to be making progress, over the past 15 years tensions have been growing. Today, many regard Bosnia as a dysfunctional state. As well as growing calls for secession by nationalist Bosnian Serb leaders, most notable Milorad Dodik, the Bosniaks have been calling for greater decentralisation, with some even suggesting the complete abolition of the Republika Srpska - an entity that many see as the product of genocide and ethnic cleansing. But as tempting as it may be to view this as the solution to the country's difficulties, RS is not the problem that many present it as bring. Instead, the problems lie elsewhere. Indeed, a successful Bosnia needs to be built on respecting Bosnia's territorial integrity and the legitimacy of Republika Srpska. EDIT: It has been brought to our attention that LADbible’s summary of the beginning of the Bosnian conflict could be viewed as an over-simpflication of what was a very complex situation. This was not our intention and we hope it will not take away from the human message, which was the intended focus of the piece. For a more rounded view on the events from the point of view of lived experience, we recommend reading Mirsad’s book THE BOY WHO SAID NOTHING, available here (global Amazon link): 🤍 To follow Mirsad’s ongoing journey, see his Instagram: 🤍mickey_solak In this weeks episode of Minutes With we sat down with Mirsad Solakovic, a Bosnian refugee who was forced to flee to the UK with his family. VLOG 51 This is vlog number 10 of 12 in the winter backpacking trip series. In this vlog, we go to Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. This is also our 39th country. The historic town of Mostar, spanning a deep valley of the Neretva River, developed in the 15th and 16th centuries as an Ottoman frontier town and during the Austro-Hungarian period in the 19th and 20th centuries. Mostar has long been known for its old Turkish houses and Old Bridge, Stari Most, after which it is named. In the 1990s conflict, however, most of the historic town and the Old Bridge, designed by the renowned architect Sinan, was destroyed. The Old Bridge was recently rebuilt and many of the edifices in the Old Town have been restored or rebuilt with the contribution of an international scientific committee established by UNESCO. The Old Bridge area, with its pre-Ottoman, eastern Ottoman, Mediterranean and western European architectural features, is an outstanding example of a multicultural urban settlement. The reconstructed Old Bridge and Old City of Mostar is a symbol of reconciliation, international co-operation and of the coexistence of diverse cultural, ethnic and religious communities. Why did Yugoslavia Collapse? Yugoslavia. For many, a long-forgotten failed nation. For others, an all-too-painful, and recent, memory. A once-united federation made up of six neighboring republics, Yugoslavia’s existence was never a simple one. With constant ethnic and religious division, it seems that it was only a matter of time before a breakup would be imminent. But was that the only cause of Yugoslavia’s collapse? And how did the ethnic disputes actually lead to the destruction of an entire federation?... ♦Consider supporting the Channel of Patreon : 🤍 ♦Please consider to SUBSCRIBE: 🤍 ♦Music by Epidemic Sound ♦Sources : 🤍 🤍 ♦Script & Research : Skylar Gordon #History #Documentary #Yugoslavia
