The Peak District is full of many wonderful natural beauty spots, but our favorite (and by far the one we've visited most!) is Bamford Edge in Derbyshire! This beautiful ridge is edged by pine and oak forests and from the top you get fantastic views out over Ladybower Reservoir from one end and out over the Hope Valley from the other! It's beauty and easy accessibility mean that it is a very popular spot and can get very busy especially at weekends! So try to get there early so you can enjoy the walk and views without huge crowds of fellow walkers around you! Bamford & Stanage Edges - Circular Hike - The Peak District National Park Join me on a circular hike of the beautiful Bamford & Stanage Edges in the glorious Peak District National Park. There is some stunning scenery on this walk and the weather is moody and atmospheric. I talk you through some of the views and hopefully show you why this area is so popular with walkers and hikers. There is some great rock climbing and bouldering to be had along the edges. I had a great day out in our Great Outdoors - come along and join me for the walk. Bamford Edge is an overhang of gritstone rock that sticks out north of the village of Bamford, Hope Valley, in the English county of Derbyshire. The first ascent of "Smoked Salmon", which is graded as E8 7b was made by British climber Johnny Dawes. Bamford Edge has numerous trails across it and, on a clear day, provides views of almost all of the Hope Valley. Some trails come out at New Road opposite the Yorkshire Bridge public house. Stanage Edge, or simply Stanage (from "stone edge") is a gritstone escarpment in the Peak District, England, famous as a location for climbing. It lies a couple of miles to the north of Hathersage, and the northern part of the edge forms the border between the High Peak of Derbyshire and Sheffield in South Yorkshire. Its highest point is High Neb at 458 metres (1,503 ft) above sea level. Areas of Stanage were quarried in the past to produce grindstones, and some can still be seen on the hillside—carved, but never removed. A paved packhorse road ran along the top of the edge, and remains of it can be seen, as can remains of the Long Causeway, once thought to be a Roman road which works its way over the edge on its route from Templeborough to Brough-on-Noe, crossing Hallam Moor and passing Stanedge Pole (note the slightly different spelling), an ancient waymarker on the route to Sheffield. Some cairns along the top are even older, and there is a well-known cave in the cliff known as Robin Hood's Cave. More recent features include early 20th-century drinking basins, designed to collect pure rainwater for grouse to drink. Stanage is a magnet for climbers and ramblers in addition to runners. The Fat Boys Stanage Struggle is a popular local fell race that starts in nearby Hathersage and rises to High Neb before returning to the village 500 feet below. During the construction of the Rivelin tunnel a sighting tower was constructed on the edge to assist in surveying the route of the tunnel. All that remains of the tower is a heap of stones at Ordnance Survey grid reference SK226862. See you on the next adventure! * SUBSCRIBE * to MCM Outdoors Enjoyed this video ? What can I say? Well... I lost my drone, in the Peak District, at Ladybower Reservoir, down the plug hole 😫 Things turned sour very quickly when I went out with fellow YouTuber - Dave Outdoors for a multi-day hike and wild camp. FYI - I didn't have the drone filming when it crashed, i was simply setting up for the shot. So I've tried my best at a reconstruction at the beginning 😂. Everything that follows is true events, nothing is scripted, its exactly what happened. Grab a brew, (I would normally say chill out, but its not that kind of Film 😂), and take it all in. Shout out to Dave Outdoors, go and check him out and give him a follow. The full video of our adventure is already out and will be linked on the end screen 🙂👍

St. John the Baptist, Bamford, is a new-build Victorian Gothic church serving a village in the Peak District. Designed by William Butterfield, it exemplifies Victorian Gothic as built on a budget. As we explore this historic church we see how it is adapted for an industrial village community.
A wonderful 7 mile walk to mark my return after an enforced hiatus of 6 months. Starting out from the station, the walk follows the main road for a while before joining the Derwent Valley Heritage Way. This was previously an old railway line used for the transportation of the stone used to build the Derwent and Howden dams in the early 1900's. By the time of the building of Ladybower, in the 1930's, it was used as a timber line. After passing the reservoir, and lunch, the walker ascends Win Hill (1519 feet/463m) for some glorious views before descending down a steep, wooded gulley to Yorkshire Bridge. From here, it's a gentle climb alongside Bamford Edge prior to a descent into Bamford village and the station further beyond. A very welcome return to the great outdoors, which the weather greatly assisted. It was breezy though, resulting in some interference on the commentary.
A drive through Bamford, Derbyshire on a lovely sunny May day.
The UK is no stranger to steep climbs and it now has a new claimant to the title of the steepest road in the world! Bamford Clough, a newly paved 500m long wall near the village of Bamford in Derbyshire, is a real brute, with sections of over 36%. We’ve sent Ollie to check it out, where he and former national hill climb champions Jess and Dan Evans will see if it's even possible to make it to the top! About BAMFORD EDGE Rocky overhang offering sweeping views of the valley & reservoir with a variety of trails nearby. LADYBOWER RESERVOIR AND DAM Ladybower Reservoir is a large Y-shaped reservoir in the Upper Derwent Valley, at the heart of the Peak District National Park. The reservoir was built between 1935 and 1943, and was officially opened by King George VI on 24th September 1945. The reservoir was constructed due to the heavy demand for water from industrial towns surrounding the Peak District. With its long, deep valley, high average rainfall and low population level, Ladybower was seen as an ideal location for the storage of water. Work began on the reservoir in 1935 and during construction, the villages of Derwent and Ashopton were flooded. The inhabitants of the two villages were relocated to Yorkshire Bridge estate, just downstream of Ladybower Dam. #derbyshire #peakdistrict #peakdistrictnationalpark #walking #edge #bamford Viewranger map... A Beautiful Place to go to
My friend Ray and I decided to head out for a last minute camp when we noticed the weather was due to be favourable. We grabbed our army issue bivvy bags, picked up a few beers and headed out to enjoy what was to be one of the most amazing sunsets i've ever seen. The location for the wild camp this time was Bamford Edge in the Peak District. The music used in this movie is an unnamed creation that I made a few years ago with Propellerheads Reason.. I'm a big fan of Enigma so the track was made in a chilled out Enigma style. My Websites 🤍 & 🤍 Twitter 🤍 & 🤍 Subscribe to my channel 🤍 Don't forget to watch in HD! Find out more and get in contact at 🤍 press pack available. We had funds raised to buy this pub, install the post office and create a wonderful cafe as well as a central hub for the village. Hopes were dashed when Admiral Taverns ignored the ACV and sold to a developer instead. Sorry for the poor sound quality, mainly due to disgruntled shareholders in the background...and why not?
