From Wikipedia: "The Chicago flood occurred on April 13, 1992, when repair work on a bridge spanning the Chicago River damaged the wall of an abandoned and disused utility tunnel beneath the river. The resulting breach flooded basements, facilities, and the underground Chicago Pedway throughout the Chicago Loop with an estimated 250 million US gallons (1,000,000 m3) of water." #chicago #chicagohistory #1990s #localnews #1992 #1990s #tvnews #chicagonews #chicagotv

This is from one of my Dad’s open reel tapes I inherited after he passed. For some odd reason he recorded it in one channel mono. I converted it to two channel mono. I hope that it not being in stereo and the rough sound does not take away from you enjoying a little bit of December, 1972.

Here's a rare sign-on sequence from WBBM Channel 2. Includes: Roughly 6 seconds of EIA RS-189A color bars, followed by 5 seconds of black "Color Lightning" animated station ID (voiceover by Bob Carrington) Sign-on with same shot of Chicago skyline as on this circa-1978 sign-off (voiceover by Jerry Harper) National Anthem (a.k.a. "CBS SSB"), with shots of various Washington, DC landmarks (WBBM's use of this SSB on both sign-on and sign-off contrasts wildly with that of sister station WCBS Channel 2 in New York City, which only used [a badly faded print of] this same SSB during sign-off, never at sign-on) Television Code "Seal of Good Practice" notice (1965 design variant shown) (voiceover by Jerry Harper) Meditation with Father William Hitpas (Director of Religious Education for the Diocese of Belleville, IL) (opening and closing voiceover by Jerry Harper) PSA for Misericordia Homes (voiceover by ??) Ad Council PSA for National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare (voiceover by ??) -I came across this while going through my files of CBS Radio Mystery Theater broadcasts from the 1970s. On Christmas Night, 1976, veteran WBBM-Chicago newsreader Len Walter (still with the station today) goes through an equipment malfunction during the 11:30 PM newscast which sends him into a laugh attack. One of those funny live radio moments! (Professional that he is, he manages to compose himself in time for the serious story surrounding the controversy of Chicago picking an acting mayor following the death of Richard J. Daley several days before but then lets himself go again for the less serious items on his copy).

TM Productions Hot Hits / 96 Now radio jingle package for Chicago's WBBM-FM 96.3 in the very early 1980's, and perhaps used in the late 1970's. Please note, there is a significant delay between jingles, so be patient while the video starts and jingles play. Jump to 4:40 where the most commonly played jingles reside. Many other instrumental pieces would have been used with voice overs when the weather, news, or other station advertising took place. I grew up listening to WBBM and it's a blast hearing these again. All of my tapes recorded when I was 7 year old kid contains them with much poorer quality. I downloaded this from a file sharing site maybe 20 years ago and added a WBBM graphic from the era.

Attention all Chicago Top 40 radio listeners from the 1980's. This one's for you. Here's an interesting tape I came across in my travels. This is the high-energy radio jingle package that was played between 1983-1985 on WBBM-FM Chicago. And at the end of this recording, you will hear all the jingles played between songs and commercials as things were in the mid-1980s. If you're a nostalgic person like me, this brings you back to elementary school where you likely listened to radio as a primary means of hearing new music.
