This pedal is an end-to-end emulation of one of the most iconic British amps of the ‘60s, sporting Brilliant, Normal, and Vibrato channels that deliver everything from chimey cleans to all-out crunch. Guitarists at Sweetwater are amazed at how closely the Ruby ’63 recreates the sound of a tube amp recorded in a live room, and this lifelike quality comes courtesy of UA’s incredible mic, cab, and Dynamic Room Modeling technology. What’s more, each pedal in the UAFX series allows you to bypass your amplifier's preamp when the pedal is engaged via the special “4-cable” mode, supercharging your amp with two additional channels. This is my demo of the Ruby 63 Top Boost Amplifier by Universal Audio. If you are looking for that old Vox AC30 sound for either recording or live use then look no further because this is a fantastic "Vox in a box". It has all three channels (normal, brilliant and vibrato) and it emulates everything from preamp and power amp to speakers and true amp behaviour. A truely awesome creation from the cool guys at UA. Well done...

Today we bring you an in-depth look at the Ruby '63 Top Boost Amplifier from Universal Audio. Support/Follow Pedal of the Day: Shop: 🤍 Patreon: 🤍 PayPal: 🤍 Instagram: 🤍 Facebook: 🤍 Twitter: 🤍 Tumblr: 🤍 Pinterest: 🤍 Affiliate Links: Sweetwater - 🤍 Perfect Circuit - 🤍 Amazon - 🤍 The UAFX Ruby '63 Top Boost Amplifier pedal gives you the quintessential British valve amp beloved by artists and producers for over 60 years, from Queen to U2 to Radiohead. Built on powerful dual-engine processing and UAD modeling expertise, the Ruby '63 effects pedal delivers choirboy cleans, complex overdrive, and classic vibrato. Whether it's replacing your amp rig and going direct to front-of-house on stage, or recording tracks into your DAW — Ruby '63 gives you the inspiring, album-ready tones of an expertly miked "golden unit" vintage tube combo, within seconds. Ruby '63 is the only stompbox that gives you the Normal, Brilliant, and Vibrato channels from the original amp — so you can fly to Ireland, London, or Liverpool with the flip of a switch. From mellow to chime to grind, it's all here. Ruby '63 packs classic boosts, right onboard. Namely, the legendary '60s Dallas Rangemaster germanium treble booster and the preamp of a '70s Maestro EP-3 tape delay. Just flip the Boost switch for searing layered tones that put IR-based amp modelers in the bin. With built-in mic and speaker pairings from our award-winning OX Amp Top Box, Ruby '63 lets you tailor your classic Brit amp tones like you took them to Savile Row. This video features a side by side of the UAFX Dream (panned left) and Ruby (panned right), and the Strymon Iridium using David Hislop's IRs. The song in the demo is Alabaster Heart by Bethel Music. To download a less compressed version of this video: 🤍 Stay tuned, a follow up video is to come soon, but for now, this video provides a primer on the differences between these pedals. For context, I carefully dialed in the Ruby and the Dream individually while reviewing Kenyon Reed's Electric Guitar Tone Building course on Production Online, matching the Dream to the tone of his Fender Prosonic and the Ruby to his AC306TB: 🤍 I also used Kenyon's Amp Sim Tone course on Production Online to dial in the Iridium: 🤍 I'm using the following IRs from David Hislop on the Iridium: L: DH 2X12 Green 545 3 R: DH 2X10 G10V 545 3 🤍 Guitar: PRS Custom 24 Pickups: Lollar El Rayo's I was using the following pedals on by board during this demo: Jackson Audio Prism (Transparent setting, Low mode | Set to unity gain and adding a touch of high end - tone at 1 o'clock) Jackson Audio Bloom (Magenta mode | Comp 100%, Blend 9 o'clock, Volume set to be level with bypassed signal) Klon KTR (Intro-Bridge 1 | Set to add 1 or 2 db and a touch of gain) Greer Lightspeed (Bridge 2 | Light gain | Stacked with KTR) JHS Kilt v2 (Instrumental | Red mode | Gain 9 o'clock, Tone 1 o'clock, Volume 4 o'clock) Strymon Timeline (Song specific presets from David Hislop) Strymon BigSky (Song specific presets from David Hislop) 🤍 From the board into a Radial DI into an Apollo x8p into Logic Pro with no post processing. Signal Chain: Guitar / Prism / Bloom / Lightspeed / KTR / Kilt / Timeline / BigSky / UAs & Iridium / Radial Stereo D.I. / Apollo x8p / Logic Alabaster Heart track available at MultiTracks 🤍 If you've read this far you're likely seriously interested in this comparison. I'll have to say that right after recording this video, I thought the UA pedals were the clear winners. However, after spending a few days tweaking the Iridium, I'm not as convinced the UA pedals are "that" much better. The Iridium may not be moving after all.
Who doesn't use an amp simulator now a days , everyone does. this one is no exception and is probably going to rule all others in my book from a realistic tone view. Important Note - both tone stacks are at noon. This isn't ideal - this is simply meant to show how the Ruby reacts to different guitars, as compared to a quality amp. Many people are asking how does the HX Stomp compare to the UA Ruby, and much like any amp emulation it has its pro's and con's. There are a ton of hype videos online currently about the Ruby, but in this video I want to offer up a simple side by side and let you all decide!
Dream '65, Ruby '63 and Woodrow '55 pedals offer a range of classic U.S. and U.K. tones, with modern modeling technology and flexibility. “What‘s instantly fascinating with these pedals,” points out Guitar World Tech Editor Paul Riario, “is that Universal Audio has decided to go a different route when it came to modeling amps. Whereas most modeling stompboxes or modeling processors tend to model numerous amplifiers, UA decided to focus on one classic amp per pedal for the Dream and the Woodrow, and in the case of the Ruby, two classic amps – a ‘61 non-Top Boost AC30 and a ‘63 Top Boost AC30.” 🤍 #UniversalAudio #UAFX
