Musala (2925 m), najviši je vrh u Bugarskoj i na Balkanu, na planini RILA (ujedno istoimeni nacionalni park), nalazi se u jugozapadnom dijelu Bugarske a udaljena je oko 80 km od Sofije. Ime potiče od Musa Allaha (planina Allaha) iz doba dok je Bugarska bila pod turskom vlasti. Planina Rila je dobila ime po tračkoj riječi koja znači „prepuna vode“ s obzirom da ima dvjestotinjak jezera i izvora vruće vode. Ispod samog vrha Musala smješteno je tzv. Ledeno jezero (najviše balkansko jezero na 2709 m nadmorske visine), a posebno je atraktivno sedam rilskih jezera smještenih u sjeverozapadnom dijelu Rile. Uspon na Musalu moguć je iz više pravaca. Sa istoka dolinom rijeke Marice. Sa južne strane uspon je moguć iz Jakorude i planinarskog doma Grnčar.

We arrived in Sofia. Another old Balkan city mixed up with the beauty of melancolic and decadence. The next day we took the gondola up the ski resort of Borovez. (if not, it's a long long flat way up) From there started our tour to Musala. Lot's of people walking up, but to ski, only a few. We met a german couple, group of german ski mountaineers. The last 200m walking on the ridge, with fixed wire till the top. Possible to ski from the sommet. Avalanch danger is low. Different ways to go down, then join the ski piste of Borovez until the parking. We spent the night near Samokov. #musala #skitour #balkan

With a topographic prominence of 2,473 metres (8,114 ft), Musala is also the 6th highest peak by topographic prominence in mainland Europe.[3] Musala is also the 3rd most topographically isolated major peak in Continental Europe.[4] Musala is situated within the Rila National Park, which is noted for its rich flora, including species such as Macedonian Pine and Bulgarian Fir in the forests on its middle slopes, and fauna; it is one of the easiest places in Europe to see the wallcreeper. All major mountain ranges of Bulgaria can be seen from the top; these include Vitosha to the northwest, Sredna Gora towards the northeast, the Balkan Mountains along most of the northern horizon behind Vitosha and Sredna Gora, the Rhodope Mountains to the southeast, Pirin to the south, Osogovo and Ruy Mountain to the west, and of course, the rest of Rila. A cosmic ray station was built on the peak in 1960 with cooperation from the Hungarian Academy of Science. The station conducted scientific experiments using a muon telescope. The station was destroyed by an electrical fire on October 29, 1983.[5] With an average annual temperature of -2.3 °C Musala is the coldest place in Bulgaria and the entire Balkan Peninsula.[citation needed] Temperatures stay below 0 °C for about 8 months each year.[citation needed] Due to this about 45% of the annual precipitation on Musala is snow, and snow cover lasts for about 200 days (more than six months).[citation needed] Three of the main rivers of Bulgaria, the Iskar, Maritsa and Mesta have their sources near Musala. The next highest peaks in the vicinity of Musala are Malka (Little) Musala (2,902 metres (9,521 ft)) and Irechek (2,852 metres (9,357 ft)). Climate Peak Musala has an alpine climate with long, cold winters and short, cool summers. Usually, through winter, the temperatures don't exceed the freezing point for months. Snow cover lasts for about 8–9 months. Through the summer, temperatures rarely go above 14-15C. The summer season only lasts for 2 months, and snowfalls are possible. For the period 1931–2013, the highest recorded temperature was 20.0 °C (68.0 °F), and the lowest - −31.2 °C (−24.2 °F). The average annual temperature is −2.5 °C (27.5 °F), which makes the peak the coldest place in Bulgaria. 🤍

Film prikazuje uspon na vrh Musala u aprilu 2011. :) Ovo je bila pripremna akcija za uspone na alpske vrhove u toku 2011. Kliknite na znak 720p HD i sačekajte koji trenutak da se film učita. Kratak pregled našeg uspona na Musalu: Prvi dan smo se popeli iz pravca skijaškog centra Borovec do hiže Musala. Popodne nakon odmora organizovali smo obuku u korišćenju cepina i dereza u kojoj su pored mene učestvovali kao instruktori Davor Ciganković i Selver Ajrulahi iz HPD Bjelašnice Sarajevo. Uveče smo prespavali u domu. Tople sobe i čisto okruženje hiže Musala nas je okrepilo preko noći i bili smo svi spremni za sutrašnji uspon na Musalu. Drugi dan rano ujutru smo krenuli ka vrhu. Pratili smo uspon kojim se i leti penje na ovaj vrh. Lepo prohladno sunčano vreme nas je pratilo sve do samog vrha. Naša prognoza je glasila da nakon 11h ceo vrh i njegovo okruženje će biti u oblaku tako da smo uspeli da se popnemo i spustimo po jako lepom vremenu. Poznavanje meteorologije i specifičnih zimskih uslova je veoma važan deo u odlasku zimi u planine. Od tehničke opreme smo koristili dereze i cepine i planinarske štapove na blažim padinama. Sneg je većinom bio dosta kompaktan i tvrd pa smo mogli ne ometano da se krećemo a i da ne mislimo o lavinama koje su zimi jedna od najvećih opasnosti. U domu smo se okrepili i odmorili nakon čega smo popodne imali predavanja na temu odlaska u Alpe i o zimskom penjanju i okruženju planina u takvim uslovima. Ujutru rano istom stazom kao i u usponu od hiže Musala spustili smo se do Boroveca. Nakon boravka u lokalnoj mehani i uživanju u narodnoj kuhinji iz ovih krajeva zaputili smo se ka Sofiji. Grupa planinara PEK "Gora" iz Kragujevca sa prijateljima izvela je 14. jula 2018. uspon na vrh Musala 2925 mnv na planini Rili u Bugarskoj, što je istovremeno i najviši vrh Balkana. Ova reportaza predstavlja delić atmosfere sa tog uspona, kao i silazak grebenom preko Male Musale, a zatim spust putem, bez gondole.

Rila pripada planinskom masivu Rodopa a njen najviši vrh Musala (2925 m.n.v.) je najviši vrh Bugarske i ujedno Balkanskog poluotoka. Ime planine je trakijskog porijekla od riječi “roula“ i znači “puno vode“. Poznata je po mnogobrojnim ledničkim jezerima i izvorima velikih rijeka. Ima više od 100 vrhova preko 2000 metara nadmorske visine što ovu planinu čini interesantnom za ljubitelje prirode, planinare, alpiniste i skijaše. Vrh Musala je najposjećeniji vrh Rile i nalazi se u središnjem dijelu Nacionalnog parka “Rila”. Ime vrha je turskog porijekla od riječi “musalla” i znači “zaravan”. U islamskoj tradiciji musala je molitveni prostor (pod otvorenim nebom) na kojem muslimani zajednički klanjaju namaze.

With its impressive 2925 meters, Musala Peak is the highest point in the Balkan region. Since Rila mountains are not that close to where I live, I went there exactly on three occasions, all in summer: twice for a race and once by myself. So my knowledge of the mountain used to be like a grain of salt, never going beyond specific trails and specific conditions. Everything changed just two days ago. I was invited by a friend to join his group. Together, in one day, we reached Musala, descended it, rewarded ourselves, and went back home. Now I can say with confidence that I've been and hiked in two of our mountains at the peak of winter. This clip gives me a reason to remain positive and motivated. I was so stuck between thinking it'd be a failure and wishing I could turn it into something nice. There's obviously always going to be a bit of doubt in the process but I must remain consistent and faithful. It's not the end result that's extraordinary. Trebuia să fie o tură de #skitouring pe ruta Borovets-cabana Musala-refugiul Everest-vârful Musala, adică vreo 1600m diferență de nivel, doar că white out-ul s-a pus împotriva planurilor noastre. A ieșit o urcare de vreo 1200 de metri, până la jumătatea vâlcelului de deasupra cabanei, de unde ne-am întors. În schimb, coborârea pe schiuri pe drumul de vară a fost absolut senzațională, pe zăpadă excelentă și aproape intimă.
