Czinger, the trailblazing company that uses revolutionary design and manufacturing technologies to build state-of-the-art, homologated high-performance vehicles, has set a new lap record at WeatherTech Laguna Seca Raceway. On July 21 at 7:43pm PT, the Czinger 21C Hypercar, with driver Joel Miller behind the wheel, set the record in a multi-GPS verified time of 1:25:44. The previous track record was held by the McLaren Senna, with driver Randy Pobst setting a time of 1:27.62. Will the 2020s be the decade of the restomod? Here's why we think it could be: 🤍 And in this vid is a rather serious take on the theme. California-based Gunther Werks takes 993-series 911s and turns them into something rather more hardcore. Its aim is not to keep a car that looks period. Instead it imagines what would have happened if it went beyond-GT3. It pares the chassis back to its base shell, widens and stiffens it and incorporates so much carbon fibre that the finished '993 Remastered by Gunther Werks' weighs a little over 1200kg. Its 4.0-litre air-cooled engine makes 435bhp and prices start at a little under £400,000, plus your 993; so it’s a niche area of the sports car business, but one of the more interesting for us here at Autocar. It's also clearly very fast. Here's GT and touring car driver Randy Pobst lapping it at Laguna Seca in 1m30.99s. Gunther Werks says that's the fastest time ever set by an air-cooled 911 with number plates, but more significantly for us, it's almost as fast as a McLaren P1. The latest addition to our ACC track guide roster sees me attempt to tackle one of the most famous corners in motorsport. Oh, and the rest of the lap is in there too…. Laguna Seca is a narrow circuit known for its flow, the corkscrew and its ability to punish even the slightest of mistakes. Its location in Central California means it often gets very hot, but the key to a good consistent run around here is keeping cool. In this video I will show you the lines and techniques I use when racing here, to try and help you find some extra pace. Practice makes perfect, especially on a track with so many commitment based corners and such fine margins, so make sure you give yourself plenty of time to master it! And, just when you thought the on-track action might lead to hard feelings or worse after the checkered flag, the two riders were both overjoyed with the fun they had.

After Dave Cam’s second win in four races on the new iRacing GR Cup Series season last week, his confidence is at an all-time high entering a venue that he says holds a special place in his heart. This week, it’s Laguna Seca, but unfortunately for Dave, things don’t start off the way he would have liked. After a pair of off-track excursions in qualifying around the 11 turns of the 2.238-mile (3.602-kilometer) venue in Southern California, Dave has to rely on his wit to safely make his way up the running order to maximize the points for the day. Remember, Dave is only doing one race per week in this series! As usual, Dave is seated in the Toyota GR86, which is new in the build that came from iRacing 2023 Season 1. It comes free-with-subscription to iRacing for all users, and also includes this new, official GR Cup series on the calendar as a result. Dave opened his series with a second place at VIRginia International Raceway, a victory at Okayama International Circuit, another runner-up at Lime Rock Park and another victory at Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours. Today, Dave is going to grid from 16th place at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. How far can Dave move up the order? Will he be able to salvage enough points to keep the season alive?
