Release date 6th July 2022 The new album, 'Without Star or Compass', released 28th October 2022. Pre-order/pre-save: 🤍 Kennebec is the critically acclaimed musical outlet of Eric Phillips, a composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist living in Portland, Oregon. Drawing from an eclectic array of influences to create his own unique style of cinematic electronic music, he is set to release his sophomore album ‘Without Star or Compass’ on the 28th October via Night Times Stories, the sister label to LateNightTales. Releasing his debut album ‘Departure’ at the beginning of the pandemic in early 2020, ‘Without Star or Compass’ was written and recorded during a phase in Phillips’ life which allowed him to re-examine his motivations. “The first primary influence for this record is that, more so than ‘Departure’, I wanted to write this record for my friends and others rather than for myself. Maybe it's also a product of maturing, but I wanted the music to communicate more clearly to others, and be less of an exercise of some kind for myself.” From the subtle electronica of ‘Leaving The Canyons’ featuring the distinctive vocals of Future Islands frontman Samuel T. Herring, the expanding electronic beats of ‘Tall Tales’ featuring Hemlock Ernst (the rap moniker of Samuel T. Herring) and US singer Sudan Archives, to the effortlessly cast rhythms of ‘The Great Divide’ featuring Yazz Ahmed on horns, Phillips set out to make an album which was more direct with sparser arrangements and distinct melodies, while still maintaining the eclectic and creative nature of his debut. “I think if I were a writer, my words would be all setting and very little narrative. I'm really trying to evoke a sense of place and motion and journey and environment but the facts of the story are left vague.” On working with Herring, Phillips adds, “I think our styles just resonated well with one another, and we clicked naturally. We sent some ideas back and forth remotely and then he flew out to Portland and we recorded all the vocals in three days together. It was so fun and inspiring - and really deepened my appreciation for his craft. He's such a nice guy and a total genius. Sam's lyrics really hit a beautiful balance between that sense of magic and folklore in the natural world that I'm after, while really bringing his own sense of narrative. He's really amazing at constructing lyrical concepts in a way that I think compliments my own strengths (and weaknesses).” Throughout ‘Without Star or Compass’, Phillips masterfully creates an evocative sense of place and motion in a cinematic way, in part due to his love of soundtrack music, a heavy influence on the album. ‘Castalay's Fountain’ was inspired by classic JRPG music such as ‘Zelda’, ‘Chrono Trigger’ and ‘Final Fantasy’, while instrumental tracks ‘Friendship song’, ‘The Great Divide’ and ‘Calyptra’ are rich in cinematic grandeur. In addition to the Kennebec project, Phillips has composed the music for numerous feature films, documentaries, podcasts and games. In 2020, alongside Mark Orton (of Tin Hat Trio) and John Hancock, Phillips co-composed the soundtrack to 'Wind of Change', a podcast created by New York Times Journalist Patrick Radden Keefe and produced by Spotify, recorded the Moscow Bowtie Orchestra for the feature-length film ‘12 Mighty Orphans’ starring Luke Wilson, Robert Duvall and Martin Sheen and scored Northfork Studios documentary ‘Chehalis: A Watershed Moment.' Kennebec Potatoes – A Guide On How To Grow

🤍 Kennebec potatoes though not suitable for commercial farming are still loved by gardeners who love to grow their own potatoes. This potato is making such an impact in the culinary world of potato use. Finer restaurants are switching to Kennebec potatoes for many kinds of dishes and for a variety of reasons. Kennebec is a large potato that has a light tan skin of a uniform appearance. It does not have as many ‘eyes’ as many other potatoes and has a fleshy white inside. The skin is so thin and peels off fast, though you can cook it unpeeled. It has a nice oval shape that is attractive on the plate, unlike others that come in an irregular shape. #growingpotatoes #potatoes #howtogrowpotatoes

Considering I grew these in a 10 gallon grow bag, I would call it a pretty good harvest. There's one thing I did differently this time than other times I've grow potatoes in grow bags. This time, I add some sulfur when I planted them. I was hoping to lower the ph a little closer to where potatoes grow best. I also grew some Kennebec potatoes in straw in the ground this year. I had much better production per seed potato in the grow bags than I did in the straw. Let us know how your potatoes did this year. Thanks for watching! Buy link 🤍 Kennebec - Seasons Change Release date 10th December 2019 Taken from album Departure released 14th February 2020 It took two long years of patient, daily labour to complete the album, during which time influences such as Studio Ghibli soundtrack composer Joe Hisaishi, cult hip hop artist Nujabes as well as Australia’s Taylor Crawford and Tycho’s ambient electronica began to permeate the soundworld. On February 14th 2020, Night Time Stories, sister label of acclaimed Late Night Tales, will release his much anticipated debut album and Kennebec will become part of an internationally respected roster including Khraungbin, Leifur James and Ash Walker. On ‘Departure’, organic beats and soaring string lines envelope the listener with a dreamful kind of optimism. New single ‘Seasons Change’ is a silky myriad of sounds, textures and techniques that melt against a backdrop of subtle electronics, while ‘Kalahari’ glistens with curiosity and adventure as magnetic strings meet with a mosaic of horns. Elsewhere, the melancholic and wistful moods of ‘Wellspring’ provide a moment of reflection before the warm, fuzzy, feel good grooves of ‘Quest’, embellished by flutes and sax, venture into more overt atmospherics and fluid modulations. In addition to the Kennebec project, Phillips has enjoyed working on and composing the music for numerous feature films, shorts, national parks films, documentaries (including 2017’s National Geographic ‘From the Ashes’), advertisements and video games. Films Phillip’s has worked on have screened and are set to screen at the Toronto, Napa Valley and Big Sky film festivals as well as National Geographic and more.

This is my first attempt at growing potatoes in bags. I used light well drained soil to which I added lime, composted manure, bone meal, 12-12-12 fertilizer once during the summer, and an occasional dose of compost tea. I watered them almost daily during the heat of the summer. It was very easy and productive and produced a lot of potatoes in a very space. I'm definitely growing them again using this method.

I apologize for the video being so crazy. It was difficult holding the camera and digging at the same time. I was so surprised at the size of the potatoes! I planted these Kennebec potatoes in early July and I wasnt sure if I would even get any potatoes. They turned out to get way bigger than the ones I harvested earlier in the summer! I cannot wait to plant more of these next spring! Raised bed gardening in Chattanooga TN zone 7b

Behind The Record: Kennebec - 'Departure'

Buy link 🤍 Kennebec - Departure Released via Night Time Stories. This time round we're in the US, hanging with Eric Phillips (Kennebec) to find out how he made his amazing debut album 'Departure'. It took two long years of patient, daily labour to complete the album, during which time influences such as Studio Ghibli soundtrack composer Joe Hisaishi, cult hip hop artist Nujabes as well as Australia’s Taylor Crawford and Tycho’s ambient electronica began to permeate the soundworld. Credits: Directed, shot and edited by Jesse Andrew Clark "For Kennebec, sound and place are inseparable. I wanted to capture his nostalgia for the landscapes that shaped this collection of tunes. Using treated photos of significant places in the Pacific Northwest, we then decided on the natural setting of Kennebec's home studio to complement this and show how he brought some of those textures home to make up the heart of the album" Jesse Andrew Clark
