Nestled in the Gulf Islands of BC, Saturna Island is a great getaway for a weekend in nature. We found ourselves high above the cliffs overlooking endless ocean views and taking in all the surrounding wildlife on our weekend stay! Saturna Island is a mountainous island but relatively small (about 31 square kilometres in size). It's part of the Southern Gulf Islands chain of British Columbia, Canada. It is located midway between the Lower Mainland of B.C. and Vancouver Island, and is the most easterly of the Gulf Islands. Hence, it is close to the US border. You can actually see the San Juan Islands of the US from Saturna Island. Today, approximately half of the island are part of the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve (GINPR) that was formed in 2003. There is also a large First Nations reserve on the island, which is still visible today. The island has a permanent population of around 350, although that number increases significantly during the busy summer season when tourists from the mainland and Vancouver Island come visit. We hope this video inspires you to visit Saturna Island. The Southern Gulf Islands are perhaps best known for their artists, wineries, fromageries, and farms, as well as for their natural beauty. Gulf Islands National Park Reserve of Canada was established in 2003 by Parks Canada to protect the area’s unique ecosystem. The Gulf Islands are home to one of the last remaining pockets of Garry oak ecosystems. The unique Mediterranean characteristics of the islands' climate supports the Garry oak ecosystem. Garry oak ecosystems are home to more plant species, such as the camas, than any other terrestrial ecosystem in coastal B.C. and are one of Canada's most at-risk natural habitats. In this episode of Trail Hunter, Matt tests his sea legs along the Gulf Islands of British Columbia, Canada. Almost all of the island trails in the archipelago are only accessible by boat, which gave Hunter a good excuse to give sailing a try and to gain a newfound appreciation for wind. We'd say that the trails are well worth the adventure of getting there.

My last trip for 2022 was spent in the Northern Gulf Islands. I ventured north by myself than met three friends in their pocket cruisers. I spent time at six new locations and also went to some of my favorite spots. The pictures and videos were take by Jeff, John and myself. It’s always fun having company and plus I get nice shots of Tramontana to use in my videos.

Take in the pristine beauty of the Gulf Islands National Seashore, which stretches through the states of Mississippi and Florida. The majority of this vast park consists of submerged lands, but there is plenty above water to keep you dazzled and entertained. This diverse landscape includes maritime forests, bayous, and gorgeous marine habitat. Whether your idea of outdoor fun involves hiking, birdwatching, fishing, or soaking in the sun, you’ll love every moment of your Gulf Islands adventure. At first glance, the sheer scope of the Gulf Islands National Seashore can seem overwhelming. The park spans over 160 miles, so it can be difficult to decide where to visit and what to do while you’re there. Thankfully, the park is divided into regional sections known as ‘areas.’ These make it easier to plan your visit. Favorites in Florida include the Fort Pickens, Naval Live Oaks, Santa Rosa, and Perdido Key Areas. Each area offers unique scenery and attractions. The facilities vary dramatically from one area to the next, but in general, you can expect to find clean and well-maintained amenities. Did you enjoy this video?
