The Russian Invasion of Ukraine has caused a wind of change in Europe. A continent in which many states gradually lowered their military spending after the Cold War, governments are now looking to remilitarize, realizing that the Russian threat of expansion will remain for the foreseeable future. One of those European nations is Poland, which is now on-pace to become Europe’s largest and most sophisticated non-nuclear military power. To many this will come as a surprise, but there is an inexorability in Poland’s impending rise to superpower status in Europe. #poland #superpower #military If you liked the material, please help the channel by interacting with the video to help to respond to the YouTube algorithms: 📌 Subscribe: 🤍 📌 Like 📌 Comment 📌 Share Music: Black Hole by Soundridemusic Link to Video: 🤍

Russia's invasion of Ukraine has triggered several policy shifts across Europe. Among them a change in Germany's policy on military spending. For more than 30 years, the defence budget has been a low priority for German politicians. But in the words of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Russia's actions marked a turning point in how his country views itself in Europe. In a historic shift, he committed Berlin to increasing its military spending to 2-Percent of its GDP - that's more than 111 billion dollars - to revive its own military. But is that enough to counter external threats? Presenter: Hazem Sika Guests: Maria Avdeeva, specialist on EU- Ukraine relations and head of research for European Expert Association. Critics say the United States bears a heavy share of the defense burden with NATO, while other NATO countries appear to free ride off of U.S. military power. France took over the EU's rotating presidency on Saturday, ringing in the new year by taking the reins of the 27-member bloc. French President Emmanuel Macron said Europe's new model for growth must include innovation, job creation and job security for the continent to remain competitive globally and be in line with climate harm reduction initiatives on the other side of the pandemic. "This agenda for a sovereign Europe will be accelerated with the French Presidency. Europe must rise to the major economic, educational, migration and military challenges," Macron said in a statement. Concretely, France hopes to promote an EU-wide minimum wage, a carbon tax and greater regulation of big tech. The EU's presidency rotates every six months among the member states of the 27-nation bloc. This will be France's 13th time at the helm of the rotating presidency. The hyperlinks can not be included in this description due to a 5,000 character limit. The question is, if Theresa May’s Withdrawal Agreement gets signed, could the EU wield control over our armed forces? In a word, yes. This would mean for the first time in centuries Britain is not in full control of its own military. Not since the Norman Conquest in 1066, have we surrendered to a foreign power and without a single shot being fired. Why hasn't this been debated in Parliament? You ask. Most ministers and MPs have no idea what’s happening. They have been deliberately kept in the dark about defence integration. It might sound astonishing but the EU defence integration that Mrs May has agreed would mean the UK is structurally, politically and financially swallowed up into an EU-controlled armed force. The building blocks of the EU’s Military ambitions start with the Common Security and Defence Policy. Then comes the European Defence Agency which promotes military integration between member states which Mrs May has kept us locked into. Some examples are: 1. The Military Planning and Conduct Capability, or MPCC, is a new Command Headquarters which is gaining the power to deploy our armed forces anywhere in the world. 2. Permanent Structured Cooperation, or PESCO, dissolves our battlefield capabilities like military supply and surveillance into a single EU fighting force. Mrs May’s Withdrawal Agreement put us into this, lock stock and barrel. 3. Brussels even has a programme called Coordinated Annual Review, or CARD, on Defence which determines how money is spent and where. 4. There is also a European Defence Fund, or EDF, which is being funded by taxpayers’ money from member states. Currently it has more funding than the entire cost of our war in Iraq. Brussels bureaucrats regularly point to EU Treaties which say Common Security and Defence Policy leads to Common Defence. THIS IS THE ULTIMATE PRIZE OF THE EU where all armed forces of member states are absorbed into one single EU Army. Or as the German defence minister [Mrs Ursula von der Leyen] calls it, the Army of the Europeans. Germany and France are pushing this agenda hard. Wording in the Lisbon Treaty stipulated it as a desired outcome and since 2016, Michel Barnier has maximised whatever was possible to maximise EU power. Theresa May’s version of Britain leaving the EU actually integrates us further in terms of defence and keeps us in arrangements which she herself signed and actually helped create within months after the EU referendum result. You would think the Ministry of Defence had handled this, but it was actually a junior minister in the Foreign Office, one Alan Duncan. In just one single day Alan Duncan agreed the following without Parliamentary approval. 1. EU now has political power to deploy and command EU Battlegroups in anger. 2. EU wields control over member states’ defence spending choices. 3. He also gave UK consent to the ‘European Peace Facility’ which despite its cuddly name is actually a military intervention fund. 4. EU replaces NATO in many European military contexts. Remember when Theresa May said Brexit means Brexit? It’s. a rank betrayal. It locks Britain permanently into the European Defence Union without our parliament ever having had a vote. As a result, British industrial development is damaged further as EU rules only allow us to build 1/3 of our warships in the UK. Our shipyards are on their knees as EU defence policy sends UK Government contracts abroad. We need to be like Canada who builds all their own ships, currently worth $40bn. Their industry is thriving. How will our British Armed Forces feel about being under increasing EU control instead of The Queen and the Britih Prime Minister? Today the EU is dominated by Germany but who knows what the make-up of the EU or international relations will be like in a generation’s time as geopolitics moves on. How will issues like Germany's dependence on Russian gas play out? What if Turkey becomes the most populous country in the EU with a porous border with the Middle East? Will the Chinese be hacking into our communications network? And what about conscription? German constitution currently says conscription could be reintroduced; it was stopped in 2011. French also stopped conscription in 2011, until then females were included. Finland still has conscription. Any Finnish citizen who refuses faces a penalty of 173 days in prison. If the Withdrawal Agreement is signed, in the long run we can expect the complete submission of UK Command and sovereignty over defence.

Across Europe, Armed Forces are on the frontline to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. They assist national civil authorities and provide vital logistic support. EU Ministers of defence held a video conference, chaired by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell. #eudebates #NATO #Security #Defence #maritime #Military #ARMY #EUarmy #NATO #Borrell #Cohesion #MFF #EUCO EU ministers agreed to explore how we could use the military expertise at EU level to support exchange of information and sharing of best practices among Member States. To do so, we could set up a task force with the European External Action Service, led by the EU Military Staff. Josep Borrell, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Ministers discussed the defence implications of the Covid-19 pandemic, focusing in particular on military assistance in the fight against the crisis, and the situation in the EU's military and civilian missions and operations in the framework of the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP). Defence ministers shared examples of how their armed forces have contributed to the efforts to counter the Covid-19 crisis by providing transport and logistic support, building hospitals in record time, deploying their medical staff, and supporting the police and other national services. In this context it was decided to explore setting up a task force led by the EU Military Staff to better exchange information and share best practices among EU member states. This would be done in full coordination and complementarity with NATO. EU Defence ministers also discussed the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the 17 EU CSDP missions and operations around the world, focusing on the six military operations and missions. Ministers highlighted the importance of maintaining EU's presence on the ground, especially in those countries and regions that are already fragile and affected by instability.
